  1. The main mobile companies here are Movistar, Orange, vodaphone, with a lot of much cheaper internet based suppliers. Movistar will probably have the best coverage, Orange is always offering good deals, and Vodaphone is not very popular for some reason.... IF there is coverage, then a company like Yoigo is dead cheap. I have a phone with them, cant fault them and around half the price of Movistar for the same services. Just depends if they have good coverage where the house is. I expect they will. https://tienda.yoigo.com/selforder/internet They have shops too where the staff are quite often multilingual.
  2. Avoid roaming charges at all costs..I have different phones for different countries. I will only have roaming on with the phone that belongs to that particular country.
  3. You would be on roaming rates if you used a UK card surely??
  4. I would most definitely ask them for more details on what to expect performance wise Dave.
  5. They have no need to panic. Probably why they are not. Nobody i have spoken to this morning has even mentioned "runs on banks". I would imagine it is because we know that the 4 financial institutions that needed to be financed, the biggest of which were Bankia, were dealt with some 18 months ago..In other words its done and behind us. The money available was 100 Billion, in the end only 38 Billion was used. But we still have the other 62 Billion held in reserve and available. The other banks were judged healthy, Even Bankia, which was converted into the "bad" bank, is doing well in shedding its liabilities with regard to property assets. Just scaremongering by certain media speculators.
  6. Certainly not the feeling here. Not in any way or form. We have watched with some amusement the typical reports from the UK gutter press and SKY news talking about a possible "overspill" into banking here. Reports that show to what level of absolute ignorance these mediums have, of what has happened previously, and is happening now in Spain at least.
  7. "Dongles" are quite expensive here generally.
  8. That looks very nice Dave, and the Tous has some nice Black bass as well! The router with the ariel are quite common, i have a similar one myself. The connection between your laptop/phone will be wireless to that obviously, you just need the password. The connection via "mobile broadband" to the provider is not unusual in rural areas without fixed telephone lines. I would get back to them to stress the importance of a good connection, most are reasonably good but........
  9. I don't think it makes difference who they are. They are there to do a job, just the same as a company of travel reps or plumbers. Why would they pay less tax than anybody else just because they signed up to the army?
  10. When i have mentioned that there are 800,000 British living in Spain that would lose their automatic right to live, work and have healthcare there....There has never been any sympathy either And whenever the subject of British subjects getting the same treatment as their fellow British in the way of for example their heating allowance...No support for that either...It has been words to the effect of "If they choose to leave, good riddance to them" So the sudden wave of "patriotic sympathy" for Janet and Alan or whatever they are called is rather hypocritical, and quite amusing actually.
  11. Hopefully it will warm up for you quickly, although bad weather in the UK is good news for countries like us tourism wise. At just over 2 hours flying away we have 20c+ at the moment. Tourist resorts in the south are very busy this weekend, full of people that have come over for the Irish day celebrations.
  12. Quote from literally thousands of sources on the subject: The bank was nationalised on 22nd feb 2008, as a result of two unsuccessful bids to take over the bank, neither being able to fully commit to repayment of taxpayers' money. In doing so the Government effectively took ownership away from its shareholders, as of August 2011 without reimbursement. The media also reported cases where some shareholders had their life savings in the shares, which were taken from them.. Unquote: Presumably when the bank was then resold to Virgin, the government paid the proceeds to all the shareholders they took possession of the bank from??? Or did they keep the money themselves??? Why would he look Russian?? He is the Cypriot president?? I dont really see why you are getting "outraged" on behalf of an agreement between an elected president and the Eurozone financiers ..You are neither Cypriot or even IN the Eurozone
  13. My fingers are crossed for you. I will put in an order for some sun, and maybe a beer or two.
  14. It was 1.12 today in the resorts here....(but lets divert attention)
  15. Because "The tabloids" say so" lol Hope your health is ok/ improving/ better. Saludos
  16. Gossip and speculation from a well known europhobe...nothing more. I would have thought he might have been better occupied with studying items of interest nearer home, such as the possible imminent entry of the UK into a triple dip recession other than the performance of a currency they don't even use or in many cases understand it´s most basic workings. Who can forget the hilarious declarations of ignorant people like minister Redwood. who was telling people to "refuse Greek euros in their holiday money" (there is no such thing in existence). It is like watching a circus of clowns from the sidelines.
  17. Unfortunately the world does not revolve around "Alan and John"... The biggest payers will be the large accounts such as those held by the "Russian institutions". If you read a few more informative sites you will see that only the money that corresponds to the levy payable is frozen, and that is only until Monday. Any problem with removing money will be because of ATM machines running out because of panic withdrawals. Of course the UK comics will be revving up for another round of anti European sentiment..Even though their own readers are themselves European and dont see it...Added to the fact that most of the the Red Top readers probably think that Cyprus "belongs to Greece"....Hilarious
  18. Seems like a good way to help refinance. Much better than taking money from customers in the way they did with UK banks like Northern Rock. This way the small savers pay a little, but the huge organisations that have used Cyprus for years for money laundering...(supposedly Russian banking organisations)....Pay the most. A clever move. Especially as it is done so they cant quickly move the money somewhere else It would be great if they could do the same in Gibraltar, which has an equally bad reputation for shady money dealing.
  19. I have little sympathy generally with people that fall for this scam. They get a message, to an email address they have never given, from a lottery they perhaps have never participated in, from a country they sometimes have never even visited.....and they fall for it. Sometimes the word "stupid" just isn't enough. In this particular case, people who fell for it were invited to Spain, on arrival met by some of the Nigerians...(Euromillions???)...and offered their prize money in US dollars cash (Euromillions???) They were then given the option of "increasing their winnings" , by being paid in US dollars that had been Quote:"tinted black to get them out of a war torn African country" (Euromillions???) This scam is known here as "las cartas negras"..Victims are shown a couple of real banknotes at the beginning and end of a huge pile..The rest are light black coloured pieces of paper. The gang tells the victim that this has been done so that they are not recognised as banknotes when they are smuggled out of Africa...(Euromillions???)They then apply a solvent to one particular black piece of paper, and the colour comes off to reveal a high value US dollar bill. They are then offered the chance to buy the huge pile of black paper and cleaning solvent for as much as they can get from the victim. After they pay up and the gang disapears..They discover that they have in fact bought..Surprise!!.Black pieces of paper. Now as you can see...Anybody that thinks that they get paid for winning a prize on Euromillions in this manner, is not just stupid, but terminally thick as well as accomplice to fraud. That is why the true amounts defrauded in these cases are never known. Many people don't go to the police for fear they themselves will be prosecuted.
  20. Just to let you know that a group of 8 people, mainly Nigerians were arrested today in Valencia and Madrid in connection with letters sent to the UK amongst other countries claiming that victims had won lottery money. A total of 1.8 million was defrauded that they know of, but the full amount is expected to be more. Just shows how many REALLY stupid people there are that do fall for these scams.
  21. Francisco 1st...The "short" name for Francisco in the Spanish speaking world is "Paco". Many are already calling him "Pope Paco" here..
