  1. coch-y-bonddu books http://www.anglebooks.com is a good source of new and secondhand fishing books , for 2nd hand books try a phone call 01654 702837 Bob C
  2. I would use my local post office but its always closed, closed for lunch and 1/2 day weds and saturday, i wouldn't mind but he lives on the premises. Bob c
  3. I dont think the salmon are in any numbers, not enough to fish for. You can catch them on an ordinary rod licence if you are fishing for trout ? but they must be returned , a good idea anyway as wild stocks are at an all time low. Bob c
  4. Craig, the derwent at matlock is a good fishery for grayling and trout this time of year is grayling time, go get em. Bob C
  5. There is currently a long thread on this same subject on the lure fishers' site http://www.harrisangling.co.uk Bob
  6. Craig, I agree with Richard, an 8 1/2 ft rod rated for a 5 weight line will be easier to cast, a rod 7/8 needs the strength of Arnie to control .spend minimum on the reel it is only to hold line. contact your local branch of the Salmon & trout association, they often hold free tuition days for youngsters with qualified Stanic instructors. 7. The Book of the Perch is a book I have just finished reading, it is a collection of anglers' experiences fishing for big perch.Favourite livebaits are gudgeon and small perch, I am a bit of a lure man and find size 3 or 5 silver vibrax spinners will find any large perch ,it's a good way to explore the water. Best of luck Bob C
  8. A valid point Jim, certainly the cheaper breathables have a poor reputation in that repect. All breathable material will lose its proofing sooner or later , last time i got caught in a cloudburst it went straight through my Simms jacket, I had neglected to reproof it after 4 years of use. Do you think pvc or nylon waders could be the answer for hot climes ? available from www.snowbee.co.uk Bob
  9. Horses for courses, neoprene is very hot, so for use in Zimbabwe ? then a Goretex type of breathable wader may be preferable. waders are available with either a sock foot ( wear wading boots over )or an integral wellington boot. The jacket is an easier buy , decide on the length and price. Good advice is available from James at John Norris ,Penrith www.JohnNorris.co.uk or try http://www.sportfish.co.uk regards, Bob C
  10. if you are hot smoking, i use a kettle barbeque with a small amount of charcoal covered in wood chips then put the lid on, check the fish at regular intervals, it wont take long. Bob appetit Bob C
  11. more people then you imagine fly fish for pike, I go on the canal, covering as much water as possible. the canal i fish has reed beds on much of the far bank. best fish 10lb.A 9 or 10 weight line is best for casting the big flies.although i also catch well on #2 clouser minnows (taken from the saltwater box ) looking forward to trying some popper fishing this summer when the trout are off the feed.
