  1. Sorry Den I did not intend to criticise you in anyway and I'm sorry if I have offended you. My photography extends to turning the dial on my Sony cyber shot either to photograph or video pointing and pressing the button till it goes click. Photoshop I do use a lot to produce things for the Layout, but despite having a few books on it I still struggle to use it properly. I have picked up a lot of information re painting pictures over the years, again I would class my self as a novice. In my usual clumsy way I ended up offending some one when talking about it. And your right I like the blacker coal you produced.
  2. Den thank you for your worthy photoshop effort, I appreciate what your trying to do, but remember what I the modeller is trying to do, that is to create a life like scene from scratch I know that its an illusion I need to create using all the tricks from material such as plaster for rock and the use of paint and light and a bit of distraction to draw the eye away from the flaws. The same applies to the pictures if you look at the picture before photoshop the rock in the background is softer not as sharp as after the photoshop which do you think looks better for the overhaul effect. IMHO I prefer the before photoshop yes it is slightly out of focus but the background is were it should be the eye is drawn to the foreground scene, in the after photoshop the background is more in your face distracting from the scene. A better way to photoshop it IMHO is to sectionally adjust the foreground which is what I have done here adjusting the colour and contrast leaving the background to drift from the eye. Problem is this is not a very good picture to start with, and I'm no expert on photography or photoshop but I do know when I like something, its then a matter of deciding why I like it what makes it work. Its what makes a good model railway layout next time your at an exhibition take a look at the layout that has all the crowds round it and compare it to the layout that has few people looking, whats the difference. The same thing applies to Photography what makes a good picture.
  3. I find that flash is very difficult to use on the layout, not only shadows, I find it bleaches the colour out of the subject. When constructing the model, painting is part of the illusion, its similar to painting a picture, background is blue to impart further away, foreground colours are warmer reds, flash kills this, unless of course your doing it under studio conditions. Jostling with a host of other enthusiasts at an exhibition is not the best conditions to get perfect pictures.
  4. Hi Cliff, its a long story but I'll make it as brief as I can (they do say I waffle on ). I used to have a model Railway as a lad until I discovered what Girls were for , Aged 25 I first went down with Multiple Sclerosis, I carried on working for a further 10 yrs achieving my goal of a great well paid job, wallop the M/S decided differently I became too disabled to work and was in a poor state physically and mentally. I could not come to terms with the situation and had to see a shrink, who recommended taking up a hobby that would help with restoring some of my lost faculties hand eye co-ordination and mental thought process etc. He asked me what hobbies I had as a kid, football and fishing was beyond me physically at that time, when I mentioned Model Railway he said perfect and it was. Within a couple of years I was a lot better and well into the hobby, I was also able to go fishing with assistance and tie my own hooks and strike at a bite with out throwing the rod half way across the bank. Learnt to take my time and do things with in my capabilities only trouble is M/S decides to throw the odd hammer into the works, and put me back to square 1 every so often so its back to the model railway to start again. Which about bringings us to the present time hence no proper fishing for the last 5 months. The present layout is 10 yrs old and still only 50% finished for a fuller explanation and details about its construction see Here theres a few videos on there that show it in action. My son in law took me to the slipway were our club launches the boats, to day to see them returning to shore. The weather was perfect, for sitting on boats drowning worms, as the fish were not biting, I came away with a touch of sunburn which was a nice bonus. poledark those are very nice shots of the exhibition, I struggled recently at the Wigan exhibition and to be honest I'm still an novice when it comes to Photography as can be seen Here with my results being no where near as good as yours, I was happier with the video that I made Here So there I go waffling on again, any way you get the picture I hope.
  5. I've been a member on AN for a few years now, but I some how seem to have missed this section of the forum, Snatchers post on the sea fishing chat section brought me here. I have just spent a couple of hours engroused by all the great Photographs here. My fishing has been some what curtailed over the last 9 months due to my M/S, so in order to keep sane I have combined two other hobbies I have that are with in my capabilities at the moment. Photography and model railways heres an example of what I have been up to. I have a Sony cydershot digital camera unfortunately it does not have macro settings, it does have video which has also been used on the layout, to make several video clips, which I have enjoyed editing with sound etc. So Thanks Snatcher for pointing me here
  6. Best of luck Elton, reading this thread, things don't seem to have changed, they're still at it here, pity.
  7. Daft Idea, unless you mark all the boats in the same place. They might give you a different boat next time
  8. Best to use crayon on the deck, as chalk will wash off.
  9. I was going to put a full report with pictures and video as I used to do here, but to be honest I can do without all the flack others have been getting. So I'll keep it brief launch at 8.30 caught fish returned to the shore at 5.00 pm
  10. It does'nt look like there are a lot of Haddock in the North Sea from what was shown, he's having to go to deeper waters in the Atlantic. After 3 days in the North Sea he has only caught pouting complaining he has not caught enough fish to cover his fuel bill.
  11. I find that frozen squid catches more Tope in our area than frozen Mackeral.
  12. This was over 3ft but was less than 20lb see it in action Video also this one Video
  13. Thanks for the info Brian I thought I'd read on a forum that Explorer boats were back in business, I must have got it wrong. I was seriously considering buying one after our discussions In the original thread
  14. as rob.imk2 says it must be genetic as my family and my wifes is the opposite to his, going back as far as I can no one has died of cancer and many lived into their 80s they all died of heart failure. I hope in posting this I have not invoked a curse now on my self
  15. An updated Version including video clips Gone Fishing With Elvis
  16. Sorry Spragg you'll not feature in the movies as I'll have to subtile the subtiles. They did a documentary a few years ago of a couple of lads from my town of Leigh rat catching with dogs along the canal, the BBC had to subtile what they were saying. A waste of time as I understood every word.
  17. My God its worse than I first thought he'll end up with a few plums in his gob sorry mouth
  18. Seems our friend Spragg is spending to much time on here he's losing his accent a little bit each day heres his latest "Tha governement is calling you's hobbiests too now. Just when you all thought they were listening to you theyre gonna slap bag limits on tha all. 2 fish a day for big cod and his mates now." You'll be changing your name next old chap to Spragger's
  19. I to was suprised at Newt closing the thread, it seemed heavy handed for what was said.
  20. Being a Lancastrian I should not understand that yet I do very funny. You make my point re Spragg if he typed as he speaks it would look like that and most people would not understand what he was on about but he is a fake so he uses a form that makes it so that everyone understands him so why does he bother, it just makes him look daft, He can't converse with other members on a topic because it takes him to long to work out how to type it. So if you look at his post you see he just comes on an insults some one but does not contribute anything to any threads as he is to busy trying to work out how to type his accent. An if he is so anti his favorite term hobbiests anglers why come on here in the first place if its not to have a go and insult us.
  21. Humor him it takes him ages to type all that out in a yorkshire accent, which if he did properly as spoken you would not be able to read, other than in yorkshire and then with dificulty. He does it for effect why I have no idea just makes him look what I suspect he is false.
  22. It a shame when things come down to this but it should show us all that things have to change and lets lighten up we're supposed to enjoy sea fishing. Especially if we had one of these Rod Rests
  23. Like you say There are to many variations to comment on any basic rule. But I find that the longer the trace the more its pinned to the bottom in a strong tide especialy the tides we get of Rossall, its also down to the type of rig. keeping the bait on the bottom nearly always gets the fish for us.
  24. We caught these in May off Blackpool Just to put you in the Mood
  25. I've been censored my movie has been pulled, I'll sue all that money spent filming Michele in exotic locations having to eat all that curry, cost a fortune in toilet rolls and that was just for Michele. Wheres the censors I demand an appeal
