Dunny, you will be fishing strieght into 80 foot of weater, going to 100 ft in places! It can be realy snaggy close in, not snaggy as such, just the slate is very abrasive and cuts line like a hot knive through butter... You are casting onto clean sand which holds thornies doggies and a host of other species at times, good congers in close... Hook a fish and wind like bugger to get them up out the slate!

Not that this has anything to do with anything... But, i hate the fact that we are not aloud to say that we are Scottish?(Same with the rest of our 4 nations) but can only be British! I realy dont think i could swear alegance to Britain, publicly or not! And i cant see how this would stop any forms of terrorist activity. 'Of with his head!' Something i dont like seeing.... A couple standing at the bus stop a few weeks back with thier two children. The man, and young boy, wwhere dressed in the finest suits you could imagine, very swift indeed. The mother i prosume, in full head gear totally covered head to toe as was the young girl. I know its thier culture but is this not degrading females!!!??? Why does this sort of thing need to be entertained in the UK??

Woops, aparently it was me mams fault... Spraying airosols in the same rom as the tank... Everything, shrimps crabs... it was as if someone had flicked a swirtch and everything dropped.... Makes you wonder, now that is a fairly large tank, and little amounts of pollution, what are we doing to our seas and inland waters!!!???

Woke up this morning and noticed my dads tropical marine aqarium.....Every single one of his fish are dead... Expensive trigers, other rare things that i cannot pronounce... angels etc etc... A good few bobs worth ! Not a happy bunny this mornin, When it comes to aqariums he knows his stuff aswell! To say hes been experimental with water etc, and our native rocks this time round is an understatement! Gonna do some water tests methinks. Will keep you posted

I was there in june and it seemed Penmon point was abit of a hotspot. If its clear its a nice bit of mixed ground to work lures over.

Yes, our midges are well trained.... Teeth like feking rockwilers (sp?) I usualy find tents are a safe haven, oddly. But, make sure not to leave the door open, an exits are brief so as not to let many in. As for outside the tent, your on yir own. The creams and sprays dont work IMHO. Fire is just a momentary deterant, it seems to make them come back and bite you harder! If there is a wind/breeze on your safe, any nice weather and your for it!!! Midge nets, untried by myself but ide bet its the way to go! Enjoy your holiday, campings great fun! PS any more info on how bad our midges are, ask Tiggs, Spanner or crusty

Are there big congers there??? One of those strange days today. My mate envited me along on a day out to greenock esplenade where his club where having a match. After quite a good start i had baged a dozen mackeral, lots off wee wrasse, collies etc. Everyone else was having similar succsess too, we even had dabs take mackeral feathers on the retrieve in midwater??? At some stage through the day, a local revealed that there are a few eels lurking at the rocks. I have seen very small strappers and silvers caught, but not heard of many big congers as far up the river. Something urged me to give it a try anyway. I decided to tackle it like lochaline, even though my tackle was allitlle more make-shift as i wast prepared for anything. just as the tide started to flood i casted a mackeral head not 10 yards out, shockleader still on the reel. In between a cnversation a tapping on the rodtip turned into a violent lunge and i was soon into something very angry!. I had only been there a couple of minutes aswell which made me so surprised. After some interesting tug of war the beast bit through my 60lb line just before it broke surface. Gutted as i was, i set up again, and cast into the same spot. I was even less hopefull this time, but was even more surprised when my bait was grabed again after a few minutes. This time a very powerful fish manafged to shake itself from the hook leaving a mangled mackeral. Well i was almost defeated, and never having such luck in such a short time with eels before, i didnt know if there would be a point trying again, but 3rd time could be lucky as they say. I sat there for half an hour with no luck whilst chatting to the guy who had hinted me about the eels presence in the area. A very jagged bite developed, and i let it take line as it started tyo pull round more confidently.... i had more than just my figers crossed that i would connect properly this time. I reeled down and hit nd was pulled around like mad, a good few minutes tussle ended and i had my fish on the bank, and it was a big eel too.I called over for my mates to brintg down some scales and camera. At thispoint the whole of his club had joined in to spectate. The local lad wrapped the line round his hand, and proceded to move up the bank with the fish. Ithad other ideas anmd done a death roll and thrashed giving him a good beating. i heard a loud 'oh s**t', as the shockleader snapped in his hands. The angry eel started going seawards. On the spur of the moment (bonkers i know) i decided to go swimming, and was soon up to my knees to try and block of its escape route. Even though i had it by the tale it was too powerfull and went right between my legs.The local and the guys from the club where all screaming 20 pounder at me.... comparing with my eel of the other week at LA, it wasnt far off, but ide of said 15 was more accurate. 3 attempts and i was fed up and spent the rest of today relaxing and messing about with the light rods for the wrasse. One lad next to me managed to catch a lovely herring too! Youl need to allow sloppy typing, 12 hours of fishing and im knakered!

Hi Scottocks. Cant help you much on the western isles, sorry... Been to Orkney for two week s a year ago, and your gonna love the fishing! Head over to the Old man of hoy, and the clifface just before it (highest in britain i believe??) anything from a boatsleghnth -be carefull! to a couple of hundred yards out was superb drifting for double/treble shots of averaging6lb cod, ling to double figures, and stacks of coalfish/pollack makeral. Good sandbanks in between hoy and orkney mainland ish well for latties and haddies. As for scapa, well i belive a common has just been landed in there, so there about for those willing to search! If you are chartering.... We called Ron on the 'welcome home' he gave us 2 dates where he scrambled enough people together to let me get out on a trip! He even took me out with a set of birdwatchers. I caught stacks of fish even at the marks where the birdwatchers wanted to go... I thaught he was very good and helpfull, lovely fishing boat too.... However i here 'charlie says' is the boat to go on! Not only does he know his drifting for the abundant species, but is willing to try for new specios "the big stuff" which lurks around orkney...
