  1. "but you get to see some nice totty walk by keeps up yer spirt" just sussed out my main reason for fishing there mate
  2. I have to disagree sultzer... Fished there many times myself in all the right ways/ perfect baits. It is good for a few hours but there are many places which will provide much better sport!!!
  3. 101North. Coming from Edinburgh there are far better places to fish within 30 mins of Dundee. Fife coast, and ofcoarse all along the arbroath coast! I only fiosh Dundee if its a match.I can think of far more pleasurable places to fish! locally too! Simon, October is verging on slightly late, but if the weather has been settled you might still get some good sport on the yack. The whole area consists of very shallow reefs, stacks of red cod and collies/mackersal lus a few good pollack. There are a few flatties in st andrews bay, but its not realy been explored properly yet. Unfortunetly there are no Tope or Hounds on our coast yet, at least none caught that i know of. If you want any info on suitable yack launching and good laces to try, send me a PM... Shaun
  4. Give Norrie his due, he can certainly catch the bait... Unlike some On friday my mate had 8 mackeral from the shore whilst i only managed 1 !!! Mind you the seal did give me a few terrific tug of war battles with 4 makkies. Quite sporting when it felt the hook and decided to head for Buckhaven IDe agree with sprat andrew, ive had one on the fly at a river mouth a few years back. [ 24. 5. You dont seem very diverse Taimen.... There arent many situations that i can think of where a leader will not come in handy!
  6. Its great to see they are still up there. The fish is no-where near what its claimed to be though. It was 1st said to be 180lb. Now after checking with the skipper its guestimated '150-160lbs'. As many of the cluique know, male skate dont grow that big!!! Infact that would be well 'off the charts' for a male fish!
  7. Dale, when you hooker your skate.... Did you get much of a bite? And did you feel a whole lot of movement of the fish? Prosuming you where using mono. Im trying to gather as much info as possible to try and get it right. Maybe braid is the answer.... but thinking about it, there lies lots of hazzards with braid fishing there...
  8. Norrie there has been about 10 caught there over the years I believe stuart cresswel has done well at it! But there was no trickory involved. Just good old wanging a bait out as far as possible...
  9. Spoose its your luck at the end of the day. My opninion in Shore skate is luck and perseverance. Im gonna keep trying. I have to say it would all be made unworthy if a fish i caught like that was found belly up the next day
  10. join on the choochoo train... Gonna start a loch x marina too?
  11. Elton, can we have another forum please randomobjectfishing.co.uk
  12. Send my congrats to David thats a belter!!! Tryin 2 work out from the pics where it is
  13. Just wait till you get one on the fly!!!
  14. quote: I'm sorry but i have had so many pm's and phone calls about this posting, that i've decided to say my piece. Stan, I think your posting is a pile of Bullshit, that in most cases is utter fantasy and at best is 30 years out of date. There are many outstanding anglers in Scotland, who spend a lot of time on research and trying new marks for new species. How come none of them have come across any of your findings? Are they all numpties? I personally find it offensive that a guy who tried for two months and failed miserably, to catch one Tope, out of season for the Deep sea world at Edinburgh, can preach about abundant species around the Mull of Galloway, that just aren't there. I am sorry if this offends but i am just writing what many are thinking. Ian, well said ! You want my opinion, look at my surcastic reply Sorry Stan, but youl have to go some way to convince me of such species
  15. Taimen, welcome to An. But sorry, thats not true at all!!! Sure, lighter is enjoyable, but you CANT (!!!) cover every situation in shore angling the Uk using light gear. For some venues to get the most out of them it is very necesary to cast a distance, you cannot do this safely and accuretly without using a shockleader... Also, some venues require heavy 6oz gripleads... Shockleader is a must for safety here too. Cant kill every bird with the same stone... You need to have quite a few tricks under you belt, and knowing how to use shockleaders is very important!!! Regards Shaun
  16. And they wonder why he is known as the abrasive one Just kidding Well as hectic as this forum has been in the past few days... You know how it is, your looking for something then another thread catches your aye and it turns out to be a goodun, so you end up spending time on it and forget about anything else! My feelin is that the 'General scottish sea angling' one has been an absolute cracker Who'd have thaught scotland was as rich with veriety, and there i was wasting time with doggfish, Double figure Thornies, and 20lb congers at lochaline pier all this time! silly me... Wait a minute, lets discard those, 'cos lochaline is infact an aquarium After all, we are catching someones 'pets' demon demon [ 19. July 2005, 04:31 PM: Message edited by: Spur-Hound ]
  17. This is the thread ive been hunting down. Same davyred as NESA??? Il send you a PM with some info...
  18. Just a dull sence of humour in my part stan... I may have picked up wrong but you spoke as though the turbot carpet the seabed!!! In all seriousness, wat are the possibilities in our waters in your opinion?
  19. Usualy just go as if i was targetting flounders, 2 an 3 hook flappers, short ish distance... mackeral strip. But they say hitting it out a wee bitty further is the key.. FF PM reply on its way soon mate...
  20. Belhaven beach at dDunbar is our local hotspot big dunny... Doesent seem to hold alot of big 'bots butt here are always alof of smaller ones. Its where i caught my first ever, only palm sized as it was, peach none the less!!!
  21. Stan, Very generous of you to offer help to those seeking something more than your average doggfish in scotland! Any chance you could put me on a great white shark from the shore, preferable in the clyde or forth estuarys??? What are the best baits for the above species in scotland... I suppose it cant be too small, so one can get down through the vast shoals of pesky Turbot! Where exactly might i catch a common on the east coast if you dont mind me asking? Im guessing i could not reach them by casting off portobellow beach??? Failing that i could settle for a sordfish on the fly! Shaun
  22. Sighned on the doted line Anyone else mad enough?
  23. Well, think ill jump on a space to stronsay next year Very good news that they are around but! Lets hope the locals dont do a kill and hang trophy on pier type things again and ruin it...
  24. I new they must still have been there... Well done to mike thrussel and co.... http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/show...read.php?t=4785
