  1. By the way depending on where you buy your rag, watch out for the juices... Especialy if sensative skin, In england this year when i had to use them peaty ragworms for 5 days solid after the 3 and 4th day my hands wer red raw, The juices had literaly eaten at my skin on my hand, And castiong was a total nightmare, So i got my hand all superglued up to give me an extra layer of skin for casting (ouch) The peaty ragworm are apparently noutorious for this, Anyone else had there skin burnt off from rag juices??
  2. Yep thats very true and i think havin a great love for the sport is the most important thing, I always found paul youns shows entertaining...
  3. Pugs, DelJ I think its just pauls style of filming, Its obvious he does know his stuff, Just the weay he puts it a cross is as though a good majority of the viewers are begners in that field of angling, So the viewer is sorta linked with paul, in the way that they are learning of the "experts" he is usualy accompanied by, i guess ts been figured out like this, Right so theres all these difrent categories of fishing, If he goes say coarce fishing, there will be a good majority of people watching who are fly/sea anglers who like him havnt a clue on the topic, Ok so it appears to the viewers who are coare fishers that this guy hasnt a bloomin clue Ive probably got it wrong but its a theory
  4. i dont have any serious objections to those who do it ,IDe just feel to guilty to kill a tope i think, After all its travelled such a distance, and are such strong fish, And an adult with all its spawning potential(hopefully moree sport for us in the future) Earn a good deal of respect in my book... And another point that i wouldnt eat a tope (like all sharks it probably tastes of ammonia) SO the only reason i would have to kill one would be for a picture in a mag, and or getting my name on a list... I just wouldnt do it, and i dont know if it is such a good thing of others to do, unless they are indeed going to be eaten,
  5. You must be living in an odd place on the east coast..... East is worste uualy As it catches most of the coast whereas the southeast or northeast only catch certain areas effectivle
  6. henry gilbey, paul young, And I have to say i cn watch john wilsons shows quite hapily Jeepster, been keeping an eye open looking for you on that goul huntin programe, Which person is you?
  7. They realy do do that, One of my m8s is southafrican and stays here and even still he does this basic off the ground overhead thump, Once i took him to inverbervie beach in a huge sea, I set up a good 50 yards above the waves, This guy did the thing where he wandered as far down as possible to the water, hit the bait hard an ran back up before the surge came, That threw a few looks from other anglers, he did it behind my back, Needless to say when i turned round and spotted him i went mad and was shouting to get him to come back, If waves like those hit you your a gonner!, he wont d othat again but still just does the basic overhead thump, Seems to go a long way out aswell
  8. Nah im afraid me personally i couldnt kill them just to win the compitition, just for them to be used as pot bait or whatever, Sure thing ide fish for them and take full advantage whilst they are feeding and around in the area(youde be mad not to), but just for sport, sod the compitition there would be plenty time for the rest,
  9. South african style... I have seen a number of the south africans casting, It cant be more simple, They are daft as brushes, They watch the waves/surf, Do a timed run, wade out knee deep, and then a quik stright over the head hard powerfull thump which seems to send there wieght and whole fishbait out 100 yards, This puts unbalevable prsure on your forearms, and is one style that does require muscles, Whilst there bait/wieght is in mid flight they realise that the 8-10 foot swell/surf is heading directly toward them so they dart back up the beach realy quikly and control the reel at the same time in a comical fasion, Not the kind of casting for me, Well at least this is how they do it on the beach, I have no idea of how the S africans do it on the tourny field...
  10. You lucky lads with lifetime warranties A few years ago i had my hands on a very valuable Farlow Sharp flyrod, hand made and sighned by the man himself(he died along time ago i believe) One of the nicest rods to flyfish ive ever used, Leaned it up after fishing one day and went for a drink and some kids had broken it by kiking a football at it, Sadly they arent made and any still about cost thouands from collectors, Now i go for the likes of shakeys and Ron thompsona and never broken a rod since, Cheap and chearful but great rods

  13. I agree with salar, that wasnt realy as much of an advertisment but more of a genuine enquiry, Unfortunetly i cant help a great deal, But a good positive skipper who works well and hard always looking for fish and diffrent options if the fishing is slow always keeps punters happy and coming back,
  14. I agree, Met him this year in england, Top bloke, Great angler, and very helpfull,
  15. Ill send you a PM later on today ok...
  16. NEver even new this forum existed, Im a guest over ffrom the sea anglinbg forum... Anybody else keep native marines in here??? Ive been doing it now for a year i think, Got hermits, shore crabs, shrimps mussels, cockles, beadlet and snakelock aneomes, loada other assorted shellfishes, ive got 6 blennies/shannies, A wee goldsinny wrasse(which was caught by me , and a silver eel which hides under a pile of rocks, aswell as lotsa plant life kelp etc Been a very interesting hobby to take up, Also isnt hard at all, If your into seafishing, try it, its amazing how much you learn, Great watching how the fish all feed and stuff, It can keep me amused for ages... Its great going rockpooling also, Its especialy good when tyhe fishings slow you can just have a mooch about the rockpools and see whats about
  17. So what was the weekends tally? For me it was 1 mackerel landed, One off at the side of the boat:rolleyes:, Got that collie also when we visited Seal central
  18. Dont think its bait thats the huge sandeel issue, Although it all goes towards it, All fishmeal pellets etc comes from sandeel apparently, ALl of what they feed them farmed trout an salmon... Thats ALOT of sandeel
  19. HD have you heard the rumeres from our local harbours in the south east that the crab potters in this area are picking up a few small spurrdog in there pots????? Strange for the east is it not? Ive heard it a few times now, Including from skippers from the areas, Pitty about the haddies, At least the west coast stocks seem to be ok, well ok enough for me to catch quite a few even from shore...The lads out on the boat are getting a good few... Mackarel situation is strange tho, Fished afloat out of st andrews with a friend this year and the makkies he is getting there is unbalievable, Same with the crail coast the place is hoaching with them... Not as much now but only a matter of weeks ago.... Shaun
  20. If you could make a copy some day and send it my way that would be great:)
  21. Its realy strange, Has been one of the best years since many for mackarel up in scotland, Throught the east, and parts of the west, Some lads up here would agree this year you tend to get pig sick of them, Some times this year its been an imposability to hit bottom through makkies in areas, no matter what wieght you put down
  22. Yep Norrie, What can i say, Superb trip, Loads off fun and great company, Cant allways have the fish, and dont always need them to have a great time, I think i better get seen to by a GP about that sleepwalking Had me laughing for ages that, Was confused as hell at the ime tho Sure you guys didnt slip some vodka in that cokje of mine??? Further to the shore report, Peter caught a wee belter of a rockling, and that was about it realy, Had a fantastic time tho...
  23. Les, Any chance if you know when (and if) it will be replayed on sky sports???? Couldnt get it taped Was away trying to catch a few cod at amble, Wotsinaname, Ide agree with steve on match fishing hard hard work, Bait, Rigs, Sussing out the venue is crucial, and the species of fish that your targeting(finding the most effective way of getting these species at the venue, at extreme speed) You must have unbalevable concentration also... And the luck of neptune can help One of the most important things i learned at the home nations this year was attitude, Dont let what others are catching put you off, OK p[ay serious attention to what you closest anglers to you are catching, and on what gear, But always keep the head up...If the head goes down, Very often the game is lost... My most memorable day match fishing was this year in england, Where me and a lad from Newcastle area, pegged next to each other, had to battle it out right to the last 15 mins, When i pipped him near the end by a few centimetres, he almost packed away all his gear and lost al interest, i decided to keep going and whapped out a few more right on the end, I am realy knakered after a days match fishing, cos of all the concentraition involved, and to be honest, sometimes i just cant be bothered, I just couldnt do without my pleasure fishing(usualy codding ) in between the match diary
  24. Nice One Les & Diabolos Will get me folks 2 tape it...
