  3. Hi Alan, glad you found the site ok
  4. Tell you what, these continental stle rods are the doggs doo dahs!!! And ive been using my 15 ft K2 team extreme for macky bashing, it realy is awesome and has given me so much beter results, for the following reasons..... As these rods are so long and flexable, there is alot of elastic band action... I use an 8lb mainline on mine (fixed spool), with a 30 foot leghth of 15lb mono (for lifting fish + abrasion) joined onto a 40/50lb leghth of shockleader... With a lead about 4/5ox, simple over head thump this set-up realy does fly. with this i can thump t well over 100 yards, infact i wouldnt like to say how far really, and this is with macky feathers... Plus the added fun of fighting a string of mackies on 8lb line.... Contrary to popular belief, a big fish wont snap you very easily with 8lb line or the like (as long as the venue is fairly clean!) These long continental rods give so much cusion, its unbalevable, so anything that is any wieght is handled no bothers as long as you dont haul em... So far ive had 5* 1lb plus mackies on at a time, what a laugh, but it handles no problems.... The long leghnth of 15lb line really is neeed for lifting fish tjhrough the surf etc... The advantages of these rods realy are worth it... Bait collecting aside i think these rods with a similar set-up as ive been using are gonna work wonders for match fishing where its shy biting fish at long range-3 hook flappers The K2 titanuim is awesome, But it is heavy, although you really dont notice it... If you want an even better tool for the job, something like the gruavell titanium surf concept... However this will break the bank! The shakespear K2 tintanium is around 200 quid, well worth it IMHO.. if you can find a rod similar to what you described, that will do the job as well as these long rods do for under 100 quid, ide be amazed! 5. There was one time i was fishing near a power station.... and it started lashing it down or 30 minutes solid... I became aware of a realy horrid taste in my mouth, kind of like when you taste a battery to check its charge, but much more tinngly.... It didnt register at 1st, but it really got discusting, noything i could do would avoid it... Surely it was acid rain of some sorts.... Never had that before.... Probably pure coincidence that we where next to a big coal power station. [ 02. September 2005, 01:08 AM: Message edited by: Spur-Hound ]

    Braid

Im not so sure myself, but whatever you choose, the braid must not be able to cut through the mono, it will go through it like a hot knife through butter...... Must use a gripping knot rather than pulling against each other knot, if that makes any sence!?

  14. About to set off... Cant wait See ya'll soon
  15. As much as i like the Daiwa slosh reels.... Credit where credit is due, the 525 mags are fool proof, and indistructable!!! 3 hard years totaly abusing mine yanking fish from all diffrent ground, and it still casts sweet as a nut... Just had to change the magnets one time after they rusted on me. Besides that, a real work-horse! [ 24. August 2005, 10:26 PM: Message edited by: Spur-Hound ]
  16. I dont think the problem is line lay Matt... The GS reels are extremely temperamental! I can cast multipliers no bothers, all diffrent kinds, but for some reason my Penn 535 GS doesent want to be tamed! I can cast it no bothers for ages then suddenly for nop reason it will start mis-behaving. Sometimes it goes through a whole sesh not doing what i want it too.... No a big fan as you can see...... All there good for IMO is short range lobbing, cos they are fairly sturdy rough ground crankers. Try diffrent reels, such as the daiwa SLX range... So smooth to cast with and as long as the brake blocks are in wont cause you too many bothers. There isnt a great deal of trickery involved in line lay, just as long as its fairly balanced from side to side. Even if you rus hwhen you have hooked a fish and the line builds up on one side, a gently lob sorts that out before your next propper cast (though not always the case with the dreaded GS reels!)
  17. I must say i quite enjoyed the place myself.
