  1. They really do slaughter them down at Torness... F*****g muppets    I rarely go down now though, due to the people killing so many, if i do its during the week. I used to take great plesure in fishing with braid down a the outfolow. As normal ide fish away, and be curtious to other anglers fishing away and returning undersisers... Anybody i seen taking lots of small ones i would cast over causing some quite funny tangles, oh and braid slices mono in no time
  2. Yea, it was a good day out... I lost one fish that felt like a real good'un too Just goes to show how important local knowledge is. The guy we where with, Stan, knows everything worth knowing about that whole coastline...

  4. instead of just Davy, Why dont we all send in a letter saying how disgusted we are at the cartoon for the careless use of the name and that weve all spent many happy hours aboard the very well known 'catchalot 2' Anglers mail, aint that mostly carpy camoflauge crew??? 11. Magnets in reels can be fiddly. I found 2 of mine stuck up the back of the magnet housing one time, i tried glueing them back into thier slot. After a dab of glue was applied the damned thing shot into the other magnet, before they both flew back behind the reel housing again.Did i mention the glue was ultra strong stuff too demon Good luck tiggs
  12. Sam, ide idvise you not to bother trying iether... Skate fishing is not for jessies! Dale, bang on RE skate movements.. I wonder what a hound would go like in the deep water... Likewise i wonder what a spurdog would go like in the same depth we get the hounds! Suppose we will probably never know thanks to the commercials Anything to keep sir Cox'y happy i suppose! Anything caught in the south east england rules all!!! [ 16. August 2005, 09:24 PM: Message edited by: Spur-Hound ]
  13. Sam, actualy no.... They are fast and fiercsome hunters. Once they hit there pray and clamp there jaws its goodnight vienna from there on in... Do you realy think a smut with all its speed would stop, lay over and hang around to be munched on???
  14. Just one, but it was a belter... Flyfishing down the canal for pike quite a few years back with some mates, and a strong sidewind picked up as i was casting. A big old cats whisker went right into my scalp! It had went right through my cap and stuck on! Well the hat wouldnt come off, so my pals had the bright idea of cutting it off, leaving a square patch of fabric where the fly was that just wouldnt snp off. No one was home to come and get me iether, so me and pals walked through a very busy edinburgh city centre with my big white fluffy thing and bit of my cap attatched! It was comical. You want to have heard the giggles from the nurses at sick kids hospital as i walked onto the operating table. It was well and truly stuck and took skill not to get it caught on my skull, aparently. No real damage, just a tiny wee scar
  15. My floaty, err hasnt been let out its black bin liner for about 6 months! Im dreading opening it.... Ive just been making do with getting wet lately Saves all the complications that goes with having the most ripe floaty suit on the planet... IE walking home
  16. Hi Spasor, As i was saying to the folks on the wekend, i think the conger rulebook needs scraping!!! I tried exactly what davy does elsewhere lately....In the clyde at a mark i didnt know held congers... Broad daylight(bright sunshine) 5 yards underarm plop, 5 foot of water and 30 seconds untill i was into my 1st fish. Ok so abit more snaggy than LA so i lost my 1st two but eventualy banked one!I thaught LA was just an exception to the conger 'rules'... Maybe not See yer in a fortnight

    Doh!!!

Norrie, people are PMing me about you, it appears you are rather difficult to get hold of! For those not in the know, Norrie left both his mobiles on the catchalot Sorry just had to share that one!!! What a superb weekend, light line fishin in the loch for mackeral! Dogfish are demons on 3 foot quiver type rods! As we where chatting to the lads from the ayr sea angling club Davy casualy hooked a conger, and a whopper it was too at 19 1/2lbs! Sunday was a good laugh too, pitty about the dropped tope
  18. Norm, well done!! Thats a superb fish. sorry about the escapees... i suppose those are the ones that make us go back and try harder eh!!!
  19. Hi Simon. I fished the place for a week solid last year. Good fun if your into light line float fishing. IMHO its not as rough as people say it is, but still use rotten bottoms. Softer hooks will save you a few rigs - as long as you have a dropnet handy. All ranges produce fish from down the wall to 100 yds, just keep moving the baits in and out of holes/diffrent place every cast till you find the snaggs and pockets of fish. I found were there was 1 wrasse there was a whole family! The reason i didnt think it was as rough as it was hyped was because i could get away with 18lb line/shocky with a 3 hook rig and still get it back with fish attatched most times providing you are fast when they bite and you can haul em like feck! And that was every section from the folkestone to dover ends... Anything short of 40 yards stick to heavier line if your bottom fishing though. Raggies where superb, wee bits of mackeral got variety and loooads of pout. Ide imagine it could be a realy fun venue, good luck!
  20. Hiya CT... I would have thaught the same, i used to use 80lb leader but it kept snapping with fish on through abrasion. Infact the last one i had on the bank was a fortnight ago- a good double! I was using 80lb leader. A bloke grabbed the 80lb line for me when the fish was high and dry and decided to drag it up the rocks abit, one spin and a headshake and 80lb leader was no more!!! Snapped like cotton. Short range hit and hold congering is fun, but when the fish have lots of holes to get into i err on the safe side of cation Out of 7 congers ive hooked specifically targeting them, ive landed three... Not just your average fish to try and out-wit are they???
  21. I can only go with the ones ive had at lochaline, and it seems to work brill..... Ive been smashed up back in tyhe days a good few times down the southwest in rough ground/unprepared. Cut down your bait size, smallest fresh mackeral you can find, and make it into a flapper. 6/O 8/O hooks... must use at least 100lb mono hooklegnth- no need at all for wire, but you do(!!!) need a long leader, depend how deep your fishing but when the baits on the bottom make sure your leader (preferably 100lbs also) is still on the reel. Not realy sure of best times to hook into the fsh, but its initial crab like taps should be ignored, and hoit the fish as you feel it reversing, hopefully before it manages to get into its hole! They are magic!
  22. Wullie, see in your post above, there is a space between / s bass in the photo script.... you must get rid of the spaces mate [ 12. August 2005, 09:09 AM: Message edited by: Spur-Hound ]
  23. Another reason not to mess with the yanks. Joke extract: a cracker from 'dodgy' on silver lure forums.... had me in tears! "This is the transcript of an actual radio conversation between a US Naval ship and the Canadians, off the coast of Newfoundland, in October 1995. CANADIANS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision. CANADIANS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision. AMERICANS: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. CANADIANS: Negative. I say again, you will have to divert your course. AMERICANS: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER US LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, SAY AGAIN, THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTERMEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP. CANADIANS: We are a lighthouse. Your call. "
