  1. Nice to see this thread resurface after so many years, and even nicer to see that i wasnt dreaming when i caught that Parr! Who knows, might even be the same fish
  2. Thanks for all the replies guys - its clear i dont exactly have anything on my doorstep but there are a few very promising fisheries well within driving distance - will check the various websites out over the next few days and hopefully pick some fish up at the weekend!!
  3. My lad has finally dusted off his fishing gear and wants me to take him fishing at the weekend - he really really wants to catch a carp as he has never caught one, nothing major, just the sort of pastie that you get in those over stocked carp puddles around the country. Although we live 200 yards from the Royal military canal in Hythe, where there are plenty of very big carp, realistically he hasnt got the patience to fish for them there (Ive never caught one there myself so i know how difficult they can be) so i want somewhere very easy to get him back into the sport (he's 13 BTW). I thought about Radnor Park Pond in Folkestone but we will be going on a Saturday and its usually full of louts so would prefer somewhere else - does anyone have any ideas of anywhere in a 20 mile range of Hythe in kent where he is pretty much guarenteed a 2-3lb carp? thanks for any advice!
  4. Went down to Hythe beach today to have a little sunbathe. Walking along i found about 10 Huss and dogfish that had just been thrown up on the beach to die... They had obviously been caught on a rod and line because you could see the hook marks on a couple of the mouths, so i cannot for the life of me understand why someone would just kill something for the sake of it. Instead of just putting them back in the water, they had turned around and thrown them up the beach where they would have died slow and agonising deaths. When i say to people i go fishing i often stress that i love fish and return everything i catch to the river or sea, and thats what most fishermen do. Right now i feel sick at what was done to the poor creatures.
  5. Thanks for the replies guys - im not a complete newbie to sea fishing, having done a small number of wreck trips over the years, plus a bit of fishing in Australia, so i reckon i could handle it!
  6. I am taking the family to Cornwall for a traditional British seaside holiday and was hoping to have a day shark fishing. Is there a reasonable chance of a fish? Im not really a great sea-fisherman, coarse is more my thing, but since i was a kid ive wanted to catch a shark so i guess this is as good a time as any to try! Anyone got any advice for me - i would need a boat that loans tackle, and would be accompanied by a 13 year old lad who has never caught anything bigger than a roach...
  7. Ignore the stupid comments posted below the article by people who dont know what they are talking about.... http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/latest/dis...ht.php#comments Hell off a fish and the catcher did the right thing...
  8. If you are looking for a South African rapist you could do worse than check this site..... http://www.therapistdirectory.co.za/
  9. So, after Labour promised us a vote on it, they now say there wont be one because the 'constitution treaty' has been renamed to an 'amendment treaty'! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6756331.stm God bless democracy, i only wish i could remember what it was like....
  10. Unfortunately they are now trying to get it in by the 'back door' by renaming it something other than 'constitution' and Blair has said recently that there doesnt need to be a UK vote on it anyway as the Government is there to make such decisions for us!
  11. Am i the only one who hates the sight of the gut hanging down off these big carp? Sure, its a massive fish, but its not exactly a healthy looking specimen. Almost like saying that you admire those fat *stards who cruise around your local town on their electric trolleys - should they be considered great specimens of humanity? Boily-fed or burger-fed: its all the same to me!
  12. There was a 40 reported in the local press a few years back - a young lad had just bought himself a new rod, using sweetcorn, had it in the stretch i saw the fish in yesterday. Not a novice angler, just new gear.
  13. If that is to the right of the Red Lion then exactly where most of them were - very weedy and shallow so very difficult to fish, but might have to give it a go myself next week
  14. I have fished and walked along the RM Canal at hythe, kent for 20 years and have never seen a carp, let alone caught one - doesnt bother me as i am happy catching millions of small roach and perch everyday! Went for a wlk into town yesterday and as we walked over a bridge in the centre my girlfriend said she had seen a huge fish - i looked over and saw a carp of about 7 pounds swimming about! i was over the moon, particularly when a few minutes later another 1 turned up to swim with it! Went for a walk along the ladywalk section in the town later in the evning and saw another couple sitting under a bridge near the rowing boats, but as we walked along towards the green and the water got shallower and clearer there were loads of them! There must have been at least 25-30 individual fish, all in the region off 5-15 pounds just milling about andd taking stuff off the surface. A few blokes were fishing crust and in the 5 minutes we were ther i saw one brought out that was in the range 12-15lbs. Went for a run this morning from hythe to Aldergate and saw a group of 4 spawning in the weed, and oer the other side of the canal saw a huge, unfortunately dead, common floating at the surface - had to be easily 20lbs! After all these years of thinking the canal carp must be very rare, and therefor not worth trying to catch, i feel confident in actually getting one - will definately put a bait out whilst i am tiddler-bashing next time!
  15. just because you havent had a session like that don't try to call someone else a liar. that wasnt the best recently either - I have seen 7 bass for 39lb - there are some spots that have extremely restricted access but which produce huge amounts of fish. Of course, when you have a place like that, the first thing to do is walk into a tackle shop and tell everyone where it is....... ****
