  5. cheers newt, ill probaly use a bait box or the container they come in,or i might try making one of them.
  6. could well hold a double,(10lb+) maybe one solitary 15,if there are alot of prey this is possible.pike thrive on neglect.as for ataching a dead bait properly have a look on http://www.pacgb.com or www.hooklinks.co.uk/pike/ that wil give you a betetr idea mate.when are you trying for thse pike mate? be a better idea to leave the pike till end of summer mate they tend to wolf down deads in the summer plus they fight a lot harder, often to the point where they will gas up on release and some times they die. 7. ill be out at 7am on the gate,i think the bank is gonna be empty to be honest, lets hope so more swims to rove!
  8. intresting observations newt,i see your following the seasons in order to catch the chosen fish on a chosen bait(that they natrully prey on)but if that prey is not around you aint gonna catch -true,but with chub over here the best way to catch em is to show em something they've not seen a hook in before the more natrual the better, ie a cricket over a fluro pop super boilie anyday.,i like the fact you clocked that a pred had moved in and you caught him!the season is staring this wednesday, being warm already i think them grasshoppers/crickets are gonna aoount for some good fish, bit lively tho aint they how do you hook them up? 11. please dont use them for pike,as the are loaded they wont show takes as postively as an unloaded one.please use for other fish but not pike,as they will inevitably end up deep hooked.
  12. john these tench seem to know there envoirement well and seem quite educated wich if they are, they wil be difficult to catch, you probably dont want to fish in this way but scaled down carp tatics,or in-line maggot feeders could solve your problem,pre-baiting and night fishing also spring to mind.good luck mate!
  13. using a pike float for barbel ?not being funny cosmic but are you mad!? serioussly mate you can catch barbel on the float but the main way is off the bottom, sometimes you dont need backleads,i wouldnt really use them in a snaggy swim,as its another object on the line to snag up more likley link leger(weak link it will break off on contact with snag) one way is to hold the rod high-,less line on the on water almost direct contact with the lead and bait. 14. i do backlead when fishing for barbel but you can still get liners,i use drilled bullets fixed with float stops a couple of ssg shot pinched a a foot or so apart and 1 foot from the lead.this has worked for me many times not just for barbel either, the thing with barbel is the "hover" so to speak right close to bottom and have very large pectoral fins wich is why i think they give wonderfull line bites!they dont sit still the always moving over a baited area or rig, well thats my experiances anyway.up over it then turn drift downstream then over it again they do stop over it but still hovering left to right.with carp in winter a line bite may give away a shoal laying up,especially as they dont move much in the cold(getting less cold weather nowdays).there are ways line bites can help you catch fish, bream are a classic,-you know there in the swim all you got to do is catch them!
  15. nutrabaits trigga(ice version too) and dynamite halibut boilies, thats what i use, rareley stray good well made bait, personally i think some of what is sold is absolutley crap!or be diffrent go for maize and pellet like budgie said.if ther not educated go for free running legers with a bed of hemp and fish meat or corn over it or a blob of that new doppelganger hemp stuff,(kryston make it) leave the boilies till they wise up.pinapple is a good alternative to scopex.
  16. a shame if it has been stolen,is there no chance its wised up a bit and not been caught?its not unknown for a big carp to disapear for upt o a year or so and then get caught out of the blue. in that report they say a 30lb carp is relatively rare!sorry but thats rubbish!i can name several or more places wher you can find 30's even day ticket waters hold em!sevreral 30'S infact!
  17. makes sense to me,leadcore seems to b epopular choice to keep th e line out of th eway or tfg secret trap leaders.depends how much you think it affects your fishing and catch rate.ive had barbel bumping into the line, giving me wicked pulll rounds on the tip but i dont strike as there liners when whips round and carrys on going i strike!they never seem to spook of the line?
  18. hi matt just got back from my session, started off on the float didnt get much really, didnt get any cockles to use in the end, altho i spoke to a guy he uses them there with good results,so i will be returning!did mangage a couple of tench one of about 2-3lb and one i weighed at 5lb exactly fell for pepparami dipped in richworth strawberry jam dip, very happy bunny first proper tench, got pics too, afetr that got distracted by carp off the top,two mid-doubles and my mate had four to 15lb not one below 10! the tench where spawing in the edge too,and another regular who fishes for them told me the numbers caught have dwindle off lately---spawning call?no goldens ones caught, but one was spawing at my feet.oh well next time all out for the tincas. p.s tested my new barbl rod on them carp=good fun! 19. the title was aimed more as natrual baits are ie lobworms or grashoppers, crickets, slugs live fish what WE term as naturals not the fish.thats how ive always seen them?for example sweetcorn is not a natural bait nethier is bread.some "naturals" are not odd_lobworms very common bait-graqsshoppers-not so commonly used.soo i deem them "odd". 24. hi noggin i'd go with what lid has said too much bread may not be to healthy, just put out a few crusts out as you leave, could help you to keep em taking bread, less with hooks they find the better, just dont go piling it in mate.surface fishing is fun, how big ya had them to noggin?
