  1. Forgive me for jumping in this post, but does anyone know what type or name of shop you can buy chicken liver from? I'm in Staffs if that helps. TIA, Noggin.
  2. Mat, at £8 for 50 worms the strain as moved from your back to your wallet Glenn, have you tried soaking your lawn with water from a hose and then pouring a mixture of warm water and washing up liquid onto it? This is supposed to work. Never tried it myself as I just collect the slugs from my garden instead, they dont get away when you grab them and are great bait for carp and tench and you dont get bites from smaller fish which suits me.

I fished in a three hour match on Wednesday night at my club in Staffs (18.30 - 21.30) and believe me I never want to fish in those conditions again  It was pouring down and the wind was so bad that some of the guys keepnets were blowing up out of the water even with fish in them. A sad, sorry bunch we all looked
  4. drennan hook tyer... I apologise for going over old ground but I am having trouble with this device I bought the other day. I can use it to tye the hooks but not in the way the instructions explain. I find it impossible to jump the first turn so that the subsequent turns are going towards the hook point. I have to keep the turns going towards the shank end instead. This method still seems to give me a solid knot structure but I have not tried them at a fishery yet. If anyone as any thoughts/advise please let me know. Thanks, Noggin.
  5. are there any disadvantages to using these? also how do you guys manage to get those preston innovations slip shots on your line, they are so small?? [ 12. June 2004, 02:42 PM: Message edited by: Noggin ]
  6. Slugs,Slugs,Slugs. My favourite bait at the moment (mainly because I'm tight and I've got an endless supply in my garden). I'm catching a lot of tench and carp in close on these fellas. The one downside is the puss and slime that gets on your hands when handling them .When they are too big I cut them to size and you wanna see the innards of a slug, not a pretty sight!! Needless to say I've stopped eating as much at bankside [ 11. June 2004, 11:17 AM: Message edited by: Noggin ]
  7. I feel it's a tad unfair because it's just so easy to catch them! I use a great big bankstick and have my rod standing at about 80 degrees so that the bread bait just sits on the surface with no line touching the water. The breadbait is sitting in the margins surrounded by freebies, eh presto, carp hooked. My guilt probably derives from the fact that I have only in the last year got back into angling. My dad used to take me many years ago when we used to sit on those strange baskets and fish with fibreglass rods. He used to take me to places like Westport Lake (a very big lake in Staffordshire) and by god you had to work hard to catch a fish. It aint like that these days but those early days stay embedded in my mind for some reason? I also take my young son with me now and he asks questions about the harm done to the fish. He's not yet a fully converted angler and recently saw an interview with Morrissey who stated that fish scream when they get hooked? I love the sport (I've fished three days out of the last four) but if my son decided to become anti fishing I would respect his decision. Sorry if I've gone a bit off-topic there
  8. Thanks for the replies guys I will certainly refrain from turning the pool into a big sandwich from now on Ratty, the biggest carp I have had off the surface is about 10lbs, although I have no scales so it is a guesstimate It is fun to watch the carp take a surface bait but it kinda feels a bit unfair to me and I much prefer watching a float go under.
  9. I reckon a lot of commericial fishery owners are quite happy to rake in the dosh without such complications? How often have you been to a site where the owner or baliff takes your money and does not give you a reciept, ticket or even record the transaction?
  10. First off, I would like to say a big hello to everyone as this is my first post I recently joined a fishing club which has a small membership of 30 (no day tickets). There are two smallish main pools to fish, stocked with carp, tench, roach , perch, bream, gudgeon etc . The carp go up to about 18lb. I usually float fish with either pole or rod and also set up a rod for surface fishing as the carp are very active surface feeders. My question relates to when I finish my session. Is it considered ok to throw in all my remaining bread bait as freebies when I've finished. I work in a large plant bakery so I do take loads of bread with me when I fish. I dont think I will be spoiling the fishing for other members as I usually go midweek and never see anybody else fish there? I was more concerned that large amounts of bread may be detrimental to a fishes diet? Does it also attract undesirable birds to the pools? To my way of thinking I would say that it would help make the fish more comfortable with surface baits and help them pile on the pounds... Noggin.
