  1. Just got back from my beloved lanzarote and am a bit concerned about the number of fish in the harbours. Seemed to be a lot less fish than last year and in particular the facio, At one time as commen as the mullet are none excistent. Hope this is'nt a sign of things to come.
  2. Please post what you caught and on what tackle and bait. I've found the Eastern med a bit disapionting but spain malta and the canaries fantastic. Lanzarote is the best place I've been where I mostly float fished with squid on a size 14. Caught bream , mullet, wrase, Facio(fight like makerel) and many other small species I cant Identify. Also tried spinning for a few hours with no success but did have a baracuda follow me all the way in and turn away at my feet. Roach bashers would love the harbours as you can catch small mullet a fish every fewv casts and this realy keeps the kids intrested.
  3. I love to use my coarse tackle when sea fishing on holiday in the med and canaries. I find many of the rigs and set ups used on UK fresh water to be deadly abroad for many species. Mullet on wagler set ups, The smaller pike floats when fishing deeper and I've landed all sorts on my feeder gear legering in harbours. I plan to use some carp tactics this year with PVA bags of dried prawns around my hook bait. Anyone else had any luck abroad ??????
  4. Yeah , and cant believe people still kill fish like that, It wont be there to catch next time u go on holiday.
  5. I've tried spinning once or twice out there and got a follow from a baracuda but no takes.I do think someone more committed would succeed with lures and live baiting would be even more deadly. Baracuda are present all year round with two species availible, The smaller species grow to about 18 inches and have a yellow tinge to there body and tail wich I think is known as a guaguanche. The larger is the great or chevron baracuda and I've seen these up to a meter long hanging around in the harbours just a rod length away. There's also some great mullet and bream fishingto be had if you fancy a bit bait fishing. You can fish the harbours but stay clear of the harbour walls. Send me a P.M. if you want any more info on bait fishing.
  6. I've visited lanzarote at all times of the year and have found little difference in the fishing.I've never had any luck with lures but I only tried it for an hour during high water. All I gotr was a cuda follow my shad allthe way in only to turn away at the last minute.Perhaps someone more committed might have success.I would think your lure woulld be fine as the cudas hang around very close to shore, However if tuna and dorada are your target distance would be needed. There's a professional guide who advertizes his services in the bars at the old town.Good luck please let me know how you get on
  7. Any one fished the Algarve ???? I'm looking for a resort with plenty bars and restraunts and of cause good fishing. Not realy bothered about charter boats I just like to do my own thing.
  8. how do I spot bites on the drop when waggler fishing ??? I can only spot bites when my float is fully cocked
  9. There's been alot of posts on this over the summer so I thought I'd post my results here as a reference. Stayed in peutro del carmen and all the rockmarks I fished produced fish.Mainly small mullet and Facio (a silver discuss shaped fish that grow about the size of your hand)and a few small species I did'nt recognize.Float fishing at a depth of about 2-3 feet with squid on a size 14 and ground baiting with a mix of tinned pilchards and bread.I found all marks fished better on the flooding tide with things going a little dead after high water. The best mark by far was the old town harbour fishing from the slipway or the rocks on the right hand side. I did see people fishing the harbour wall every day even though this is forbiden but I did'nt take the chance. The same tactics produced mullet and facio but the mullet where much larger and more frequent.Legering produced all kinds of fish mainly small but did catch 2 kinds of excellent bream, One silver with a black spot at the route of the tail and the otherwich where larger and had black vertical stripes.I also caught bream float fishing of the end of the break water, casting straight out to sea about 50 yards and slider float fishing at about 6 feet, Again squid as hook bait and I mixed my ground bait with sand so it would break up and sink through the layers.I did try spinning for baracuda of the break water at the mouth of the harbour but all I got was one follow my shad all the way in and turn away at the last minute.
  10. Have no personal experience but from what I've seen on angling proigrams ( Total fishing matt Hayes ) it's an angling paradise. it has everything from blue water big game fishing to light tackle fishing with spining tackle in mangroves for baracuda, Jacks, permit and snook.
  11. yeah there is fines if you fish the harbour wall I stick to the rocks and slipway
  12. It only takes a couple of minutes to desolve
  13. I've got some PVA string in front of me and I'm amazed how strong it is.You've realy got to grip and pull hard to snap it.It was 2£ for 25 meters.Thiis stuffs got my head racing with ideas and as for the bags well as long as your bait is dry they could be used.i'm of to lanzarote soon and the harbours are so sheltered there's no tidal rip. imagine my prawn hook bait (dried in the sun) sitting on the bottom among a hand full of freebies , Fantastic.
  14. Anyone lure fish for bass in the north east. For that matter does anyone lure fish in the north east ???? I'm not talking about makerel bashing of the pier at south shields but has anyone tried lure fishing along the rocky coast line south of the tyne ???? Pollack, makerel anything ?? I'm not asking for your secret marks just a success story would give me the heart to give it a bash.
  15. Dont know yet,it just looks like fine wool on the article. There using it to string five free baits to there hook bait. The result being your hook bait siting next to a bunch of free offers. Definately more to learn from these carp lads.
