I have a Daiwa Harrier Z which I find quite confortable to fish with all day when balanced with my Purist. It's rated for lines up to 6lb as well. A very good rod. Dave

Matt - A quick Google for 'Seldex centrepin' threw up quite a few hits from collecters sites. It looks a bit like the Trudex doesn't it which they are still selling today (I think). Got to admit I had never heard of the reel prior to 'Googling'. Dave

I largely agree with Matt although I think a line guard should be a detachable option. Some say they hinder Wallis casting but I've not found this to be the case. Dave

Try these:- Digital scales Compact, accurate and totally reliable. Just get yourself a rigid container (£1.00 from Morrisons in my case) to stop them switching themselves on in the tackle bag. Dave

The Trent isn't really out of sorts Mark but it can be a little bit daunting with a lot of water on. I had a reasonable barbel session last Friday and the humble lobworm and meat are doing the biz. Dave

I think that what we need is for another river to rival the Ouse in terms of size of fish caught. Recently the Wensum, Trent and Kennet have thrown up some very big fish and when the barbel record does go to another river some of the understandable cynicism should disappear. Dave

I suspect it's the tarted up version of the RE5000 that Dave is referring to at that price. The 'limited edition' has a spare spool and a double handle unlike the original RE. A quick web search can't find anyone discounting below £50 a reel Dave. Dave

River fishing is particularly fascinating Janet because the environment is so dynamic. The river changes according to the seasons and the weather and the fish respond to these changes, meaning you have to respond as well! Anyway, you’ve now caught some very nice fish so carry on doing what your doing and the chub, carp (and barbel. Are they in the river? Could be what you lost) will come. Dave

The weight of the Purist has never been an issue with me Chris although that might be because it balances out my 17' Daiwa Harrier Z nicely. I envy you the Lythe though. Beautiful reels. Dave
