  1. Am I the only one on AN that has no sympathy for the waste of space named 'George Best' ?

Everyone I have spoken to about him in the last month or so agree it's all self inflicted & have no time for him whatsoever.

Would the media be so interested in any other chronic alcoholic who p*ssed his own career up the wall ??

Shame the liver was wasted on someone so self destructive.

    GOOD RIDDANCE I SAY

  2. [Edited - not the time or place (thread) to slag him off.... ]

Oh dear - censorship ? Where is the right place then ?

Perhaps I should start another thread ?

  3. I recently setup an online shop for a client of mine (I am a web designer/developer by trade):

    http://www.eurocardplayer.net

To accept payment via debit or credit card you will need an online PSP (Payment Service Provider). The most commonly used & popular is WorldPay, but there are many alternatives all depending on what service you need & how professional you want your website to look.

As previously mentioned PayPal now allow people to make purchases without having a paypal account - this can though be long & drawn out waiting for some methods of payment such as 'e-cheques' etc

Check out my site for more examples of what I do & give me a shout if there is anything I can help with

  4. I have an Epson Perfection 2480 that scans negatives. It's all automated & will produce a 'normal' image to your Photo editing software, no need to mess about.

I bought the scanner specifically because of this feature & am very very pleased with it ...

  5. I was a very happy person. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating

for over a year, and so we decided to get married.

There was only one little thing bothering me...It was her beautiful younger

    sister.

My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight mini-skirts,

    and generally was braless.

She would regularly bend down when she was near me, and I always got more

than a pleasant view of her private parts.

It had to be deliberate. She never did it when she was near anyone else.

One day her "little" sister called and asked me to come over to check the

    wedding invitations.

She was alone when I arrived, and she whispered to me that she had feelings

and desires for me that she couldn't overcome.

She told me that she wanted to make love to me just once before I got

married and committed my life to her sister.

Well, I was in total shock, and couldn't say a word. She said, "I'm going

upstairs to my bedroom, and if you want one last wild fling just come up

    and get me."

I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. When

she reached the top she pulled off her panties and threw them down the

    stairs at me.

I stood there for a moment, then turned and made a beeline straight to the

front door. I opened the door, and headed straight towards my car.

Lo and behold, my entire future family was standing outside, all clapping!

With tears in his eyes, my father-in-law hugged me and said, "We are very

happy that you have passed our little test.

We couldn't ask for a better man for our daughter. Welcome to the family."

And the moral of this story is: Always keep your condoms in your car.

  6. it is illegal to download as you do not have permission from artist of movie company
That's rather a sweeping assumption that anyone using a P2P network is going to be downloading copyrighted material.
also if you have burner then you can get took to court for intent to supply counterfiet goods.

    Since when ?

Perhaps you're not aware that it is perfectly legal to make backup copies of any digital media for your own use the same way you would make a tape recording of a vinyl LP you can make a duplicate copy of a CD or DVD. It becomes illegal if you then try & supply that material to a third party without a distribution license, be it one copy or one thousand copies.

  7. Check your settings in your browser - it's more than likely that either your browser isn't checking for a new version of the page each time the page is loaded or that your ISP is caching pages

I don't use Firefox so I wouldn't know where these settings are - have you tried it in IE as well ?

  8. In order to have access to the edonkey network you have to connect to an edonkey server - you cannot connect via a third party proxy server.

In fact edonkey needs direct access to a specific port, if this is refused you will get what is called a 'LowID' which will restrict your access to shared files from other users across the network.

You can change your port settings in options in case your ISP is being naughty & blocking certain ports

  9. If you only download then you can`t get done for sharing.

Not true - by the very nature of how Edonkey works you are sharing the file as soon as you have the first part of it. Edonkey breaks a file down into multiple parts (a bit like WinRAR splits files into parts for you) & it's these parts you download from each individual user, you cannot just 'leach' from the edonkey network. So you ARE sharing the file as soon as you actively start downloading it.

Any P2P program does not mean you HAVE to download copyrighted material. Many legitimate 'shareware' files are freely & legally available on P2P networks, in fact some download websites like download.com & tucows have links to files shared on P2P networs like Edonkey, Bittorrent etc ...

  10. As Si says Emule is by far the better ED2K client. Personally I use Emule Plus http://emuleplus.info/

The beauty of emule/e-donkey is that it doesn't rely on one server (like SoulSeek) & can therefore not 'be shutdown'

It's by far the most established P2P network & is great for archive files as well as new ones.

Also try some of these websites:

I've been using E-donkey/emule for years, so if you need any further help, feel free to reply or send me a PM :)

  11. Because a dynamic IP address is assigned to each individual user when you dial in, generally as a 50:1 ratio. This means that IP addresses are assigned as you log on i.e.; there are 50 available IP addresses available on 1 switch & they are served out in order of 1st come 1st served. Therefore it is less intensive on the server to allocate IP addresses ad-hoc

Static IP addresses are reserved specifically for you & are only assigned to you each time you dial in.

Dynamic IP servers only need 100 IP addresses for 100 customers connected at that time.

Static IP addresses may need 1000 IP addresses to connect 100 people at any one time if all users are not connected

It's the same as reserving a seat at a theatre & not using it, that seat could've been given to someone else on a 1st come 1st served basis

I'm not saying they are the cheapest, I am pointing out the difference ...

    A VIEW FROM RIVER COTTAGE

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are pleased to announce the transmission dates for the new show; 'A view from River Cottage' starts at 8pm on Channel 4 from Wednesday 19th October - after a reflective view of what's happened so far in the River Cottage lifetime (8 Years!) we’ll see two brand new one hour specials following Hugh on a 'River Cottage Road Trip'….here’s an overview of what’s to come…

The View from River Cottage looks back at Hugh's life in Dorset and discovers that over his years there, he has learned a set of rules - or principles - to grow by, to cook by and even to live by. This series repackages the River Cottage experience (both the original River Cottage series and last year’s Beyond River Cottage) into six themed programmes in which Hugh tells how and why he has arrived at these principles. Being thrifty (nose to tail eating), making the most of the wild larder, getting the best of what is local and in season, celebrating food with friends and neighbours, growing your own fruit and veg, and killing for the pot, are six broad areas of life that the programmes tackle.

Programme one kicks off the series by looking at the importance of growing your own fruit, vegetables and meat. His journey to get some way down the road of self-sufficiency started out with a modest vegetable patch and a handful of animals, but as the joys of gardening and husbandry took hold it developed into something a whole lot bigger. Part guide to rural living, part best of River Cottage, these shows add value to recuts of previously broadcast material. New links and at least one new recipe per programme also provide original content.

    We hope you enjoy it.
