  5. tack4 me dad Andrew age 40 littletack4 Kyle age 9 misstack4 Caitlin age 11( first to catch a bass) all at casting event tomorrow with Scottish Surfcasting Assoc.
  6. after an hour 1/2 lug digging this am ( hard goin' only managed 20 or so) took littletack4 (Kyle) with me for a mark i had heard had been producing wrasse as this was a species that had eluded us so far. weather perfect arrived at just on high water perfect..... tackled up kyles rod and baited up some juciy lug on his two hook rig and prepared to start setting up my own kit...... "DAD i've got a fish on".........Ballan Wrasse of approx 1 l/b rebaited the empty hook and recomenced tackling up my rod...... "DAD i've got another one but this is much bigger........" I knew by then it was going to be one of those sessions this time i completed my rigging of my rod and cast it out before rebaiting his hooks fishing continued........................ the familiar sound again "DAD i'm in again.....only to snag in the depths so i tried in vain to free the snag with walking side to side relaesing line etc Kyle then notices my rod taking knocks but stayed quiet and sloped off to keep his eye on it whilst i tried for all i was worth to free the snag "DAD i've got one on on your rod but i'm reeliling it in so its my fish.........." i had to pull for a break and guess what he caught this time.... a shade over two l/b time for some tactical descisions Kyle should learn how to bait his own hooks i quickly rebaited my rod cast and then set about a new rig and weight for kyles rod noticing how low the supply of lug was getting ( i really wanted a wrasse too so would switch tactics for next cast) i showed kyle how to hook up his lug and left him to do the second hook as my rod was bouncing in a pleasing way and i made a lunge just in time as Kyle was again making a move for my rod result.... a smaller pollack for me and finally off the mark our rock pool was starting to look like a nice aquarium now. kyle produced a surprise with his next fish and his second new species of the day a three bearded rockling.... my tactic change paid off my first wrasse kyle produced three more wrasse and another three bearded rockling whilst i had my inevetable dog fish he was a tadd upset when the biggest wrasse of the session spat his hook on the surface i would estimate going by the sizes of fish all ready caught to be close on to 3l/b the fish were all put into a bag and weighed prior to return total of 11 fish 4 speices (two new for kyle and my first wrasse) total weight of fish was 10l/b 4 1/2 oz a plod back to the car was made easy by kyles banter and enthusiasm as he kept saying final score kyle 8 dad 3 outfished again but happy

  9. might as well use my 1000th post for this great you're feeling the right way again nick have been through it twice my self andwith family and freinds am out the other side. one of the best helps has been the sea, whilst fishing and often blanking but putting my self to rights in the process. NONE ON THIS SITE BUT WILL MAKE ME FELL GREAT to all the doubters who thought i wouldn't achieve my recent qualification as a nurse endoscopist GET THAT RIGHT UP YE! life at times can be $hit but comming out of the tunnel into the light is so uplifting CONGRATULATIONS on your beautiful baby to you and your wife and all that is left to say is ENJOY....ENJOY ..... AND ENJOY SOME MORE
  10. have a great day Ant but don't indulge as much as snatcher did during lads week
  11. at my worst the solitude of the rock or shore, the gentle lap of the incoming wave, was that a nibble nod of the rod tip, no it wasn't but i still keep hoping........ have always helped me come to terms with all of lifes problems and solve the odd one or two. this place has helped too and all this on post no. 999
  12. mine do mate but make sure you have the blanked end facing the rod tip and not right at the top eye as it may get scrapped off. another guy i know always takes it off for the cast then before setting in stand reattaches it the guie whips on real easy and a coat of clear (nail) varnish secures it nicely i tend to use the tiny wee lights in case of excess pressue on rod tip during cast
  13. its what ive be taught to use by casting instructor and he has told me the black marks will not effect the line as it is thumb slippage which occurs quite a bit have seen some with what look like cut off marrigold glove and also was told to dry last few turns of main line and most of shockleader prior to a big cast with a rag on a john wlison prog the other day looked like he and neil mckellow had blue tape around their thumbs

  16. hmm how about you two agreeing to disagree and letting sleeping dogs lie without hooks or rigs of any sort I for one have viewed far too much bickering on here of late and respect both of your opinions MJB for your SWFF tips and flies cheers mate ORCA for puting up with davy you you have all our symapathies how are they by the way PLEASE OH PLEASE LETS NOT FIGHT my kids littletack4 and misstack4 get very upset when thety read some of the threads when squables start. i think any one would be appallled by the initial incident with the dog and to livebait or not i dont have an answer. i use fresh dug lug and rag have yet to livebait fish but who knows? for those who used to throw back mackeral for them only to die and end up as neptunes food ...........which is worse?

  24. At a time of great sadness for Sonja i hope she is able to recieve some comfort from all the messages posted on AN the compassion shown sums up how many people Alan's warmth touched. A true gent who was always willing to chip in any advice he could and dedicated to this site and sport to the end. even in times of his recent ill health he was always eager to help. one of his final triumphs was a letter posted in this months Sea Angler P26 as below Braid advice I was very interested in the topic about loading a spool with braid. I take my reel and spare spool to a tackle shop and get them to load say 150 metres of braid first. I also get them to load on the backing to the required height. Now simply load the backing onto the reel as per your article and you should end up with no waste. From 300m you will have 150m left and 150m ready for action. A similar method can be used for the remaining 150m but, as you know you have 150m left on the original spool, you can do this yourself at home. I use an empty bulk spool and a drill to reverse the braid and backing. A long nut and bolt through the spool secured in a vice does the trick of loading the braid then backing. To wind the line onto the reel I use the butt section and pass the line through at least one ring of the rod for better control. Alan Taylor, Holland eternal tight lines mate [ 13.
