Most start off unidentified but turn out to have a perfectly rational explanation. Some however don't. It took me an age to figure out that the lights that would appear to hang in the air to the southwest of me, before either vanishing or moving left or right and quickly fading, are in fact aircraft takeoff lights coming from Luton airport. Luton is a fair way from Kidderminster! The large reflective sphere that I watched hanging in the sky in broad daylight 45 years ago is still waiting for an explanation.
