  1. Bass Pro are great Peter but I find their shipping charges very high.
  2. I dont really care about the cost, can you tell me anywhere in England that sells them Andrew? Thanks again.
  3. There is also a specific pattern which is dynamite on our local water. I saw 30 fish come out in 2 ours including two over 20lb the other night. I'm desperate to get one! Thanks for the leads!
  4. There is a specific model called "Hammer". It's fairly small but they might come in different sizes. Went fishing tonight, my mate lost count of the number of pike he caught on one of those, and I blanked. !@# I need to find one..!
  5. Does anyone know where I can get these? I'm after a particular pattern too. I bought one late last year but I can't find them again. Help!
  6. If you lose so much line why not up the breaking strain? It seems an awful waste, not to mention a bit of a hazard to wildlife etc. 9000m of line is a lot to lose really. What type of fishing are you doing?
  7. Worms don't smell and catch plenty of fish. I often think maggots have been over fished a bit. Maybe the fish prefer something a bit different for a change. Careful with particle baits like hemp, some waters don't allow them. Worth checking before you fish.
  8. Dear all, Is it just me or are other people getting annoyed at the length of time it takes to order items of tackle? Also, no company, no matter what you try to buy from tea towels to tackle boxes, seems to have anything in stock. I ordered a lot of tackle online earlier this week, now 4 days ago, and most of it still hasnt arrived. The only company to respond promptly was Luremania.co.uk which I used after it was recommended to me on this forum. I ordered a rod from a major (I wont name them - County next to Cornwall Angling Centre..) supplier and called them to add some fireline to the order. No problem there except they couldnt tell me if the rod was in stock. They said they'd call back and never have. So now I'm rod less. Most disappointing. Anyone else have any tales of woe about mail/internet order? Might help calm me down, knowing Im not the only one! Cheers, Martin
  9. Received the reel and some of the lures. I must say that luremania.co.uk do give great service. The kit arrived well packed and very promptly. If this were eBay Andy Scziglenski would have definitely got a positive! Top marks. PS. Just to top it off, I caught a 5lb jack on it about four hours after it was delivered!
  10. If it has a bar I'm all for it. Might make sense in this country given our weather.
  11. Well I've been using a mag elite for heavier stuff and it's simply fantastic. I use the same reel for beach casting also. I can't wait to try the Quantum though, I've heard great reports about it. I'll let you know! Thanks again.
  12. Well true to form I've turned around completely and decided against a travel rod since i can't find exactly what I want. Instead I've gone for (as a starter summer rig): Berkley Series One 6ft Baitcast 11-21g 1 pc. Quantum Accurist AC501CX Heddon Crazy Crawler Yellow Hornet Arbogast Hula Popper Frog Manic Big Vibe Buzzbaits Black and Pearl WhiteManic Big Vibe Buzzbaits Should catch me some fish I reckon once I purchase some Berkley Whiplash, I think 30lb will do it with some 69lb solid wire traces. All items (except the rod) were from Luremania.co.uk, so forum advertising does work! Thanks Brian, I gave you a mention in the order comments. Tight lines gents! PS. Thanks for the suggestion Peter, I checked that out. It was close to what I was looking for. In the end, I actually decided against a travel rod for the moment. I'm considering having one made for me, but I need to save up first as they aren't cheap. [ 26. April 2005, 12:29 AM: Message edited by: msutton ]
  13. Thanks Peter. I know you are a lure fishing man, do you also know of any 2 piece 5.5-6.5ft baitcasting rods with triggers that are available? I've seen one from Harris but I'd like more options if possible. Cheers fellas. BTW: Since I last posted here I've had a PB Pike from Loch Ken of 26lb and my first local Pike was a whopping 4lb's. Not bad though considering my friend and avid pike fisherman had not seen a Pike out of Wintersett for 2 years. We've had 5 in 2 days. [ 25. April 2005, 10:52 PM: Message edited by: msutton ]
  14. Thats what I'm after but in a 4 piece. I might yet again be looking for something which doesn't exist. I should start my own company. heh
  15. Looks like his site is down atm. I'll check it tomorrow.
  16. I am! It's just that my wife is like the mother accompanying the kid...
  17. It's not really ultra light I'm after. Maybe I didnt explain myself correctly. What I fish now is jerk bait lures, they are huge and require some heavy tackle to get them where you want them to go. I currently have a 7ft Shimano jerk bait rod and an Abu mag elite reel. I use 80lb braid and a 196lb solid wire trace. When I said light, I meant in relation to that! hehe I'm looking for a rod to cast between 10-30g (is that ultra light-Im not sure.. if so maybe I've got my weights wrong, never was good at metric...) which I can travel with easily (4 sections at 7ft), a reel which I can use one handed so it's either a fixed spool with a lever, a closed face underspin, or a multiplier. The rod I was looking at does not have a trigger so thats why I was looking at lever operated fixed spools. Unless someone knows of a nice single handed spincast rod (in short sections and with a trigger) that I can use a multiplier on. Thanks for the help guys. I'm checking out that site now. [ 25. 18. Thanks for the response Newt! Closed face could work, but all the one's I've managed to find are very cheap and nasty. I don't really mind how much the reel costs, but I'd like good performance and it should be able to take a minimum of 150yds of 30-50lb braid (any thinner is terrible to work with I've found!). I cant quite identify the makes/models of the ones you posted above. One looks like it might be Shakespeare. I spotted that one for sale n the UK but it's about £20, so is it really up to handling a double figure pike? The lures will be around 10-30g at a guess and I'll be using a solid wire trace as usual (I don't like losing lures!!).
  19. My first carp was about 2oz, caught at the local garden centre.. Well done to your daughter on her first capture. That's great to see. [ 25. April 2005, 08:41 PM: Message edited by: msutton ]
  20. As an aside, Loch Ken is excellent for Pike from May onwards. Forget any time before then as it's hard going in my experience and that of my (significantly more experienced) friends. Favourite lures include Mepps Aglia (large sizes), Ripplin' Thinfins, ShadRaps and Kuusamo Professor's in 00 size! Try it, I've been twice and had fish up to 26lb's! My friend has had several 30's from Loch Ken too over the years, all on lures.
  21. Dear all, I am looking for a new fixed spool reel for spinning. I'm used to baitcasting reels and larger multipliers but I've decided to invest in a new outfit for travelling. I've chosen a Shimano rod suitable for lighter lures and now I'm trying to choose a reel to match it. I want a single handed fixed spool reel similar to this: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.Tex...arTarget=browse I've seen Shakespeare examples for sale in the UK, but they are cheap so I'm guessing poor quality. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good reel of this type and where i can obtain one? Cheers, Martin
  22. Hi guys! On a similar note, has anyone fished Half Moon Lake near Wakefield. It's just up on heath common. Im planning a trip there soon, any good tips/suggestions?
  23. Well they do say that many lures attract more anglers than fish. That said, those storm lures have accounted for some big fish in the past. Keep shadding away! I'm going to go try for some chub I think on a local river.
  24. Thank you for confirming that, I shall add one to my christmas list.
  25. Wintersett Reservoir near Wakefield. It's got pike to 30lb in it plus many smaller pike. No idea how many 20's but it's a 120 acre lake so there must be a few
