Hullooo! Welcome to the forum!

Should freeze ok. I froze a load in small cubes like large ice cubes. Made baiting up a doddle lol

Im not a fan of the style myself, but I have to say that its good to be able to buy such a range of good quality predator equipment thesedays, from different manufacturers.

Hi all, I've a pair of Greys rods that are gathering dust and have barely been used since new. A pair of 2.75lb Greys Prodigy Sx + Rod bags Have been used only a few times and are in "as new" condition, collection or local meet Luton/Beds. I would be looking for £100 ono. Pictures can be taken if needed. Thanks Phil

O'brothers of the twirl...at this rate I shall require new bearings before the poor thing see's water. Im not sure how to use it first, whether to trot a big bait on a 1lb Fox or even the mkIV tench float rod? How about ultra light for roach and dace? Maybe I should jusy get another pin to cover all bases? Ahh, so this is...how it truely starts!

Im a Delkim user and have stuck with my 98 models since. I do belive that the older versions are somewhat better than the newer ones. If it wasnt for the Delks, Id go for Gardner TLBs as roller alarms for pure reliability.

Just aquired my second centrepin.....I had a Leeds years back but sold it, now Ive just picked up an Okuma Raw (not to everyones taste but I like it). Will I ever stop spinning it? Will it be the only one I'll own? Will my wife stop looking at me strangely for slowly twirling the handles? Me'thinks its a slippery slope...

I make it as simple as I can, straight points for a soft bottom, curved/beaked for rocks/gravel/pebbles as they dont tend to roll the points. I like straight points for the ease of penetration, but the beaks do deffinatley stay in (esp when using a barbless hook as I do 99% of the time)

heres my tip for fixing paste /meat to A hair
Phil Adams replied to Tenchbloke's topic in Coarse Fishing
Lightly fry or grill the cubes of meat to toughen up the outside "skin", also helps to render the fat and make them slightly oily. Works well in summer. -
I was about to suggest this myself, although you may find that you attract alot of attention from the carp population (as you have already). A snaggy/reedy corner sprayed with maggots covered in predator X can work really well too.

Love thy fish...

Have a look in TK Max if you have one nearby. They have a whole range of outdoors clothing and were banging out Craghoppers trousers for £20 a pop. Bought some of the Kiwi winter lined trousers and am very impressed. Although these are water resistant not water proof. They also had salopettes and coats from various brands. Worth a look before you shell out X amount on a potentially inferior "fishing" label. HTH

I've not read every page of this thread but I'm hoping that the main gist has been "dont waste your money". If any fish was scared/put off by the sight of a lead weight, then they must all swim about terrified. Just think how many swimfeeders, leads, shot etc are laying around the bottom of most rivers and lakes. Dont be brainwashed by magazines. You dont need X rods and Y reels filled with 15lb fluoro etc etc. Many magazines do one thing these days, they sell bait, tackle and tickets.

Cant help with the fishing spot I'm affraid, hopefully someone will be along soon who can. What part of Mauritius are you from? My wifes family come from there..........must visit and fish!

Stalking Carp With Slow Sinking Maggots
Phil Adams replied to Anglers' Net's topic in Coarse Fishing
Just proves to me that if you can find the fish (or at least attract them) then they are catchable. I quite like Alan Blair, hes written a few good articles and the Nash Tv series is quite good too, especially the Urban carping. Im not sure what the water is but I looks a little like one of nash's own waters. -
is high costs of living effecting your fishing choices?
Phil Adams replied to azrael's topic in Coarse Fishing
I find that its the travelling that ends up costing the most. Bait doesnt have to be expensive, neither does tackle. -
Im probably fiddling for no good reason. The Drennans have always served me well, in fact I cant think of one ever not landing a fish as long as Ive done my part. I do like the look of those Kamasans, they look like a good general purpose specimen hook. Ive found that when Im using either my Fox 1lb Specialist or Drennan MKIV I can pretty much land anything, given the space to do so. Has anyone ever used different hooklength materials when floatfishing for perch? i.e braid, silkworm/merlin etc?
-
Hey Phone, I tend to use a size 8 for no other reason than habit. I tend to stick to a size 8 or 6 for my carping, barbel, tench etc as the bait size is often similar. In fact a size 8 Super Specimen is my most used hook lol, only dropping down to the smaller sizes when targeting smaller species. Those Kamasans look good, do they do a barbless version? Even with lives and lobs I prefer barbless. Ive not had a problem with my current hooks, its just that sometimes i think id prefer a similar hook just in a finer gauge wire. Cheers all.

Can anyone suggest a good hook pattern/brand for perch and chub fishing, mainly using lives and lobs? Ive been using size 8 Super Specimens but I'm sure there could be better alternatives out there. Thanks

The real pro tip is to keep a tin of brasso on your shoulder while you fish though
