Hey all, Im looking for a post that was on here a while back froma guy (sorry cant remember your/his name!) who had been catching large chub, quite a few of them too (plenty of pics) but I cant find the post.... Does anyone know what im banging on about?

Ive made a point in recent years of sticking to tried and trusted mono's, stuff that doesnt fail randomly....Maxima and Sensor have been my main choices and as previously said they both break above there stated ratings which can be useful.

Ive only gone and found a brand new one in shop Should be with me tomorrow, fingers crossed its all ok lol

Depends on the methods you are using, but "little and often" is always a good rule to follow. Dont forget to loosefeed maggots aswell, or you may end up making the fish pre-occupied with the pellets.

Where do I start lol Cracked myself in a the head with a 2oz lead that got stuck in a weed bed.....lesson learnt, dont pull with the bend of the rod! Chopped my finger to the bone going for a big chuck without a stall, braid goes through flesh so easily! still hit 200+ but my Tekken skills have been hindered lol Broke my ankle a mile from where my dad was fishing......my dog Jack went to get him....then he had to carry me back to the car lol Broke my ankle again after slipping down a bank......Dad was used to carring me by this point Dropped off of a jetty in winter, straight into the Ouse whilst trying to retrieve a lost float. Lures stuck well past the barb in my thumb, more busted joints..... Im 31 and I still havent learnt my lessons fully

Hi all, I fancy a tench float type rod. Im getting annoyed having so many different rods for differing fish/methods, so I fancy having an all round float rod that is capable of handling fish from small roach all the way through to decent carp, tench, chub and barbel. I know its alot to ask of a rod, however Ive lost count of the number of times I've heard of the versatility of of Drennans Tench float rod........I fancy the MKIV version, but are there any other rods from other manufacturers that I should consider? Bent hooks for carp fishing were popular in the 80's and early 90's. They were longshanked fly hooks that were bent with pliars to form an aggressive hooking arrangment, similar to the hooks posted above. They worked simply by causing the hook to flip over quickly when sucked in or as the fish bolts. Very similar to how a line aligner/magaligner works with shrink tubing......however... The bent hooks caused alot of problems, the main one being mouth damage. Due to the nature of these hooks, they often slipped/pulled out under pressure, and re-hooked on the way out, causing horrible damage to the carps mouth. The line aligner/magaligner method, does not do this as the shrink tubing pulls straight when under pressure, thus effectively removing the "bent bit". Bent hooks themselve are now banned as far as i know, there are hook patterns avaliable on the market that will do a similar job but its up to the angler to decide if he or she should use them. hope this helps

Hi all, does anyone know which guides Drennan use on the Series 7 rods? (competition Float specifically) Ive squished the middle ring, on the middle section and need to replace it. Think Ive narrowed it down to a Fuji BMYAG or BMYOG 16mm height........but im not sure. If anyone knows, it would be handy! Ta!

Pretty sure they have a locking ring.

You can add extra weights, Gardner sell them. However if fished with slack or semi slack lines, think carefully before using them as you want the indicator as light as poss.

Which alarms do you have? many have a locking ring in the threads so that you can align them correctly on the buzz bars. Just get the alarm sitting level, then tighten the locking ring down to the buzz bar. Hope this helps.

Also, if you can, try to make sure that the alarm or front rod rest is infront of the first rod ring. That way, if your rod is pulled forwards, the alarm or rod rest head helps to prevent it from being pulled too far in.

From experience, steaming is far less effective than boiling. They seem to cook all the way through instead of just skimming the baits. I really did notice a drop off in catches (using the same mix). Returning to boiled baits brought my rate back up. Im sure somthing happens when steaming baits, maybe attractors being broken down? im not sure. Would be worth Googling it, I know there have been a few discussions in CarpWorld magazine over the past months, no doubt there are more discussions on carp.com and carpforum. hth

Find them first lol Usual places can all be worth a try, mored boats, locks, over hanging trees and bushes, water inlets, bays are all worth investigating. Mored boats, especially if they are long term moorings can be excellent. Baits....anything can work, keep it simple to begin with, no high oil content baits in cold water. Tackle....again anything really, Id steer clear of high test curve rods, a pair of specimen or barble type rods with a 1.5lb tc or there abouts would be perfect. Phil

Try single high attract baits. You can get a pot of popups for 4-5 quid, and they will last you ages just using one boilie at a time.

If you can find one, John Wilson had a rod in his old range, it was a 10ft multiquiver with 3 quivertips. It has to be one of the best small river quiver rods Ive ever used. A certain auction site might be your friend if you want to find one. (no idea if they ever made a newer version)
