  1. I too remember a quote from Bickerdyke writing about barbel fishing "get you man to gather a thousand worms" Wonder if it was the same man?
  2. The Pure Rivers Society was founded quite separately from the ACA and if memory serves the two bodies merged in the early 90's.

  4. Writing as one who was a member of the ACA from 1962 until 1995 (the year Jane Brett (James) succeeded Allen Edwards)and a Council & Committee member from 1980 until I was bounced out by Ms Brett for objecting to her appointment. In the light of the Chairs letter, I will rejoin the ACA immediately even though I no longer live in the UK
  5. I should be fairly safe from the old bat as I now live in the Irish Republic and I can't see it as one of her favourite destinations!
  6. I believe that the ACA applied for charitable status in the early 80's but of course the political climate back then was not very responsive to an organisation that was a positive pain in the thingy to the supporters of the Mad Woman of Grantham
  7. In reply to Jim Gibbinson's posting of Oct 24th and to clear up certain misconceptions; the ACA uses Common Law to fight it's members cases. Said members must be either the Riparian Owner of an affected fishery or hold a lease under seal. The Riparian Owner/lessee have a right under common law to have the water they hold to be in it's natural state, unaffected by pollution which can be toxic substances, deoxegenating materials or a change in temperature - especially upwards. Thanks Jim for all the positive things you said about Allen Edwards, he was my oldest friend in both meanings of the word oldest. I am passing your kind comments on to Helen his widow.
