  1. Yes, so we will have to call you Elton John. PMSL
  2. Hi Elton, no another John, also a member of the Desford SAS, was to talk to Keith. Unfortunately I missed it as I was still in dream land catching Big Bass.
  3. Not disturbing but exciting, I could watch life in an aquarium for ages. I feel a calmness watching fish going about their business.
  4. Salthouse North Norfolk Report Saturday 15th August 2009 We arrived just after 6am and where casting our baited rigs by 6-30am. The tide was still ebbing, so with a full day in front of us we should find out what this venue gives at any time on a 12 hour turnaround. This is a shingle banked shore line with pockets of flat sand, running west to east. On the day there were south Westerly’s blowing over our left shoulders. Setting up our beach buddies and umbrellas we would be comfortable sheltered from the gusts that would stay with us for the day. `T-shirts’ were the order as temperature would stay in the lower 20’s The signs were there for us to see, green sea weed was all along the shore line. But being the optimists we continued to put the baited rigs out at different distances. To no avail, there was no interest in the offerings we put in front of any fish that hopefully were out there. The shingle bank saw anglers come and go, but no fish reports. Day strippers walking the beach were telling us no one was catching. Though anglers to the left and right of us, for as far as we could see, were all putting in a good effort. Weed, weed and more weed, it was time to try for Mackerel. The baited rigs were just not working, either the few crabs that were out there would strip your hooks, or the baited rigs would come back covered in weed. The beach was full of good spirit, the cracc with strangers made the day a little more pleasant, but no fish were being landed. Not helping was the patrol of Sammy the Seal, every two hours he would emerge looking at us, asking the same question “where are the fish”. Two chaps told us they did have one Mackerel, the only fish they knew that came ashore. But like us they saw no action from the mass of anglers lined along the Salthouse beach. Being old salts, always with a positive attitude, we should have read the beach, and Seal. Well we did enjoy our trip, tried and tried, but if they are not there, every effort would be in vain. We will be back Saturday 12th September 2009, when will be having our annual shore Open, watch this space for info, when we will be landing fish, because it’s a Blanking Competition. It’s my first time at Salthouse, free car parking, walk over the shingle bank, then it’s fishing at any state of the tide, as there’s always a good depth to the water right in front of you. Also I have it on good authority there is some very good fish come out of the water, you just have to be there on the day.
  5. Desford Sea Angling Society’s fishing skills have finally come true. The crews of the Desford SAS have partaken in Whitby’s Summer Boat Fishing Festival, with Skipper Paul Eddon, for many a year. Pauls boats The Heather of Burnham and now Trot-On have gave us many a happy hour fishing the North Sea off the Yorkshire coast. Never have we been disappointed with our catches. Many a crew members PBs have been hauled onboard Paul’s boats. This year 2009, on the sixth day of the Summer Festival, Desford SAS’s member, Cliff Moulds brought onboard a 14-11.5lb Cod, a PB. This gave him third place, for the day, which was the best any Desford SAS member had ever achieved. When the Festival ended and results published, Cliff discovered he had caught the biggest Cod of the 2009 Summer Festivals competition. Prizes Cliff was to receive were totally unexpected, a plaque/trophy presented by the RNLI, now hanging in the Whitby RNLI boat house, for all to see with his name on it. (Cliff is the first to be honoured with this prize) Cliff was unfortunate not to be able to make the presentation, but Skipper Paul did the Desford SAS proud by accepting the plaque/trophy on his behalf. Cliff also received a cheque for £50, a couple of Trophies and an ugly stik 15/30 class7/6 f. boat rod. These on top of his passion for sea fishing have made him a very happy angler. We at the Desford Sea Angling Society would like to take this opportunity to THANK Skipper Paul Eddon and all the other Charter Boat skippers for giving us the opportunity to fish the North Sea from their boats. The boat festivals have given us mere mortals the chance to bring home some very good fish, but also add a friendly competition that we will all talk about for years to come. On behalf of the Desford SAS, I’d like to say good luck to all that take part in any future Whitby Boat Fishing Festivals. KEEP YOUR ROD UP. Cheers 4 Now John E
  6. With our Rhyl boat trip called off we decided to head East. 3am start with a 3 hour journey in front of us. We headed to Lowstoft hoping the beach at Pakefield would be favourable for a spot of scratching. Our first stop was at the Woodbine Cafe, a full English, then we went onto Lowstoft Pier. The sea was boiling but the southerly wind was warm on the face. Looking down the coast Pakefield beach looked unfishable, so we headed to Sam Cooks to see what bait was on offer. Closed and another half hour before opening we decided not to wait but to head North up the A12. Arriving at Gorleston Pier, Gorleston-on-Sea Pier, oppostite Great Yarmouth we decided to give it a go. So off to the local wet fish shop for some Calmari, untill the Bait shop opened. We pitched ourselves back of the wooded fence, riverside, given us shellter from the scrawly southern wind. Ideal for any sun tan, but would it give us fish from the river side, as the sea side was unfishable. 9am was our first cast into the river, maybe some sort of fish would come to our baited end rigs. Many a good bass have been caught from this point maybe we could land one. The sun passed over our heads, faces and brows gatting reder. Many a word from Day Strippers, have you caught owt, no no and again no. Not a nibble, not a nod from our rods, not nowt. 4pm and what looked like rain clouds coming over from the west were fastley approaching us. Time to clear up and reload the car. Timing fantastic, as we had just sat in the car, the heavens opened. Turning the key we set off for home, not before we had Fish n Chips from the local Chippy. We did enjoy our trip to the coast, no fish, but that's fantastic we had done what we didn't think we could achive, A Golden Blanking Fishing Trip. We may even make the British Blanking Team for the 2012 Olympics.
  7. Ace reporting as usual Snatcher, it looks like a comfortable Wrassing venue.
  8. What a luvlee pair Alan I'd be chuffed to bits with those Cod.
  9. Hi Big Man, that was one hell of a fishing experience you lads had. It's got to worth a booking, just for the Halibut.
  10. There are lots of sea fishing venues all along the Norfolk coast line. If you are new to sea fishing try Weybourne shingle beach. There's always deep water in front of you, no matter what state the tide. A long cast is not necessary to get into fish. Talking to other anglers, while fishing, will get you further info of other venues they have fished. Keep asking and most anglers will be eager to help. Good Luck mike666.
  11. How the ell do they get such a big fish into such a Likkle Round Tin. It would be so much fun getting a Full House of those on a set of Mackerel Feathers. Some great photos, keep them coming.
  12. As you know Barry we are also out on Saturday and a 4mph SSE will be OK. But the weather is showing changes, lets hope there's not going to be any strong winds.
  13. Some cracking Cod, well done to those young anglers. Paul, please please leave me some for the Whitby Summer Boat Fishing Festival.
  14. Snatcher why not buy a boat and join those happy fishermen. I'm sure not all those boats would be used for fishing, some just like cruising around for some leisurely pleasure.
