    Mullet watch 2005

Hi chaps ( and chapesses ) Found nyself with a couple of hours to spare today and while visiting the sea forum found the urge to try sun pier at strood for the mullet. Hit the pier in bright sunlight around three hours after high tide and was surprised to see only one small group on the end attempting to tackle up, After sorting their reel out I opted to fish between the pontoons with a spinning ros matched to a centrepin carrying 5lb line fished flake under a light waggler around 30" deep: didnt have a bite!but for the more accomplished among you there was a fair size shoal of the buggers I estimate at around 4-5lb scraping along the side of the last pontoon, so close I could have plucked them out, they seemed to be preoccupied with scraping the mud off: I am now well and truly hooked and the chub and pike are going to take a back seat until I trap one!!!
  4. Years ago while fishing a cut off of the river Bure in Horning my wife who was bit fishing with a 3mtr whip hooked something rather bigger than the multidude of small 2" roach she had been catching, I thought she may have foul hooked something, the smaal piece of elastic I had fitted the the small pole was reaching it`s limit and she was pointing the pole directly at the line of the fish and I explained if the line parted it come straight back at her so she walked the fish down the cut, A helpful angler who had been Pike fishing bought his large landing net and a few minutes later she landed a fabulously marked 23lb 12oz pike!!!! on 1.5lb line and a size 18 hook: fishing can be soooo unfair sometimes.
  5. Strange things eels, Caught one once on a mepps while having my boat "pumped" out at a boatyard in Horning !!
  6. Converted: who wants some Roach?
  7. Thought i`d visit the sea forum to get some ideas for my alderney hols: Must say it cant just be the salt in the fishes bloodstream that affects them you lot are entertainingly bonkers! Great thread and I will visit more often, whoknows might even convert!
  8. I think you may have misread the article leedsunited it states the float should preceed the bait for a natural run through. Some of my experiences: never use an insert waggler always use a straight peacock or straw type float. As the waggler lands "mend" the line upstream and ensure you have treated the line with a floatant as this will ensure you can correct the line as the float moves downstream with minimal movement of the float itself towards the end of your "trot" you may need to pay out some line as mending it at this stage may move the float off-line if you need to do this you will have to exaggerate any strike you make. Hope this helps. Kevin
  9. 13lb 6oz lovely fish Dan. By the way I had a BBQ for my daughters birthday yesterday and when I came home from work this morning and sat by my pond my wife was throwing mini savoury scotch eggs in whole and my carp were wolfing them down new floater maybe?
  10. Have to agree with Howard 13, lots of hemp and sweetcorn in regular brown crumb use the water you boil the hemp in to mix the crumb add some Vanilla and if needed a little commercial fine crumb to help bind the mix, put some feed in before you start to fish 6-12 orange size balls maybe more dependant on size of water / shoal and fish open end feeder to top up during the session you can also add more balls if you feel lucky Corn tipped with red maggot on the hook or worm caster etc and wait, you will catch. The more feed you have in front of them when they turn up the longer you will hold them in your swim, Be careful not to feed to heavily once you start to get bites / liners. Tight lines Kevin
  11. Jim sorry me again I think the Moors farm stretch may now be Paddock wood angling club. Kevin
  12. Hi Jim, Not quite sure who controls the streth downstream of pikefish lane I think it may be CALPAC the stretch you refer to at laddingford has not been LAA for quite a while now this is at the back of moors farm and I think is available to fish on day ticket from Downham tackle south london, I used to fish this stretch regularly in the winter months when they open the sluice and drop the levels, Not sure how this stretch fishes in the summer but I have caught some fantastic fish adopting a roving approach and fishing bread or bunches of maggots to 3lb line under stick float or chubber,These include Carp of 17lb 10oz and 16lb four Roach over 2lb the biggest 2lb 5oz Grayling to 1lb 10oz Bream to 7lb 14oz good perch and chub with some bags to 60lb also good perch and the occasional Pike. A friend used to fish the stretch you are looking at and regularly had good chub and roach bags. There is also a stretch to the rear of a pup in laddingford ( cant believe I cant remember the name must be old age!!)this is slow and suitable for pole and waggler fishing again for great bags of roach etc. I know this doesnt help much with controlling info but hopefully will get your mouth watering, Good luck and I would be very interested in your findings as it really is a very underestimated water. Tight lines: Kevin
  13. Bob,Have signed the petition and believe we do need to understand what is happening on the broads.Having both fished and holidayed in the area and spent several days/nights moored in the Herbert Woods boatyard as I have found the entrance to be very productive for large pike I cannot believe any netting would not have been seen by someone? Good luck. Kevin
  14. Steve,Thanks for the opportunity to fish such a fantastic venue, Could only manage the Sunday but managed to beat my previous best tench by nearly 2lb, Fantastic!! 17. Back up a bit, Never mind the Carp where do I find these 6lb Chub Leon refers to?
  18. used to fish a gravel pit at cheriton ( now the entrance to the channel tunnel ) with a french kid who killed and cooked everything he caught, he gave me a Roach to try ansd I must say it was awfull he told me the Perch were to good to give away.(told him my dad was the baliff and charged him sixpence dayticket money )
  19. If you can manage to get the float to move in the opposite direction to the surface tow you may be in for a "fill yer boots day" just remember to think how the tow affects your loose feed. regards kayc
  20. Hi, Can anyone please advise I have given my pond it`s annual clean up today and am concerned some of it`s residents may unfortunately be outgrowing it.It measures around 12`x 10` and is around 5` deep holding around 1,300 gallons and is stocked with a mixture of fish: 4 tench around 2lb 1 golden rudd 2.5lbs around a dozen large goldfish, 4 koi carp from 5 to 8 lbs a 4lb golden orfe a dozen fry around 2" and 2 mirror carp 18.5 lbs and the largest at 26.5lbs. The two mirror carp ar growing at a rate of arond 3-4lb over the last three years. The question is if I need to thin out the population would I be better off moving the tench and some of the goldfish or do I move the mirror carp and if so how? can they be sold/transferred etc. any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks Kevin
