Hey Chesters, look carefully, I AGREE with you 100%. Why do we need to control/exterminate foxes anyway?
It is not at all difficult to protect chickens etc, and very easy to shoot the odd ones that do become a problem.
Of course if you want "organic" eggs from free range chickens then you must expect to lose a few chickens to the fox, after it is like putting out a plate of food for them.
I wonder just how many of the people who are crying out for organic food have thought very deeply about this.
If a fox attacks your lambs you can quite easily ambush it at night with modern lamping/infrared equipment and a good marksmen.......end of problem.
And just because you introduce several hundred pheasant/grouse to your land for them to be shot at your convenience, does not give you the right to exterminate the fox's which live there naturally.
My wife and I used to put out food for fox's for several years, we used to lose a few to traffic and old age, but there were always new yuong'uns coming through, and it was a great pleasure to be able to sit still and have them come to within a few feet of you to feed.
If it had been left to my "god fearing, church going" neighbor's, those fox's would have been shot as "pests". Why? they never did them any harm (in fact they never actually saw one!)
Fox's are not a pest, they are shot/run over/trapped or whatever in sufficient numbers to keep them under control already.
By the way Chesters I do agree with some of your other thoughts
