  1. Actually, (yeah, one of those Actually's) the point I was trying to make was not about hunting pack hounds, but all the other dogs that are officially classed as hounds. I listened in amazement to an expert describing how the "strength of jaw" "strong hind quarters" "head carried high for better spotting of prey" and all the other traits that are essential to maintain the hunting qualities were carefully preserved in the breeding. A similar story with the terrier class, "strong jaws" "untiring" etc. My point was how can anyone continue to justify the BREEDING of these sort of dogs after Hunting with dogs is banned? Den

  4. Just been watching Crufts and all those Hounds and Terriers. All of them "BRED FOR HUNTING" Some for rats, some for hares, some for badgers(?) and some for deer. I suppose the Bloodhounds are for hunting men? My question is what will happen to these breeds when hunting with dogs is banned? Will the owners still be able to call their dogs Hounds and Terriers? I also wonder what percentage of these dog breeders would vote against Fox hunting with dogs bred for hunting fox's. What will happen if one of my Terriers goes after a fox when we are out walking? 18. Hey Chesters, look carefully, I AGREE with you 100%. Why do we need to control/exterminate foxes anyway? It is not at all difficult to protect chickens etc, and very easy to shoot the odd ones that do become a problem. Of course if you want "organic" eggs from free range chickens then you must expect to lose a few chickens to the fox, after it is like putting out a plate of food for them. I wonder just how many of the people who are crying out for organic food have thought very deeply about this. If a fox attacks your lambs you can quite easily ambush it at night with modern lamping/infrared equipment and a good marksmen.......end of problem. And just because you introduce several hundred pheasant/grouse to your land for them to be shot at your convenience, does not give you the right to exterminate the fox's which live there naturally. My wife and I used to put out food for fox's for several years, we used to lose a few to traffic and old age, but there were always new yuong'uns coming through, and it was a great pleasure to be able to sit still and have them come to within a few feet of you to feed. If it had been left to my "god fearing, church going" neighbor's, those fox's would have been shot as "pests". Why? they never did them any harm (in fact they never actually saw one!) Fox's are not a pest, they are shot/run over/trapped or whatever in sufficient numbers to keep them under control already. By the way Chesters I do agree with some of your other thoughts Den [ 06 March 2002, 08:20 PM: Message edited by: poledark ]
  19. So it looks like you have achieved the impossible for us i.e. the ability to be in two places at the same time! While I am here(or am I?, who knows?), in order to get to the next post up I click on the "next topic",but.... after sending a reply I have to return to the forums page and start again. No great problem but if, as happened last night, someone else posts an answer while I am reading a topic, when I click "next topic" I am told that there are "no more topics available" cos the one I was reading is now at the top of the list! Worst bit of this is that after going back to the forums I forget where I was! But then I could be somewhere else anyway, couldn't I? As Newt would say LOL, Den Den

  23. You reckon he's thick, I reckon he is one smart geezer, you can get away with an awful lot if people think you are stupid. Posh is a real beauty, not enough meat on her for me, but she is very very attractive. I just hope they can hold it all together when her career starts to fade, if she can find enough to keep her interested then all will be well. I'm off to Tokio in June to follow England, and I for one am glad he is our captain. Mind you I still laugh at the Posh & Becks jokes Den
