  1. You reckon he's thick, I reckon he is one smart geezer, you can get away with an awful lot if people think you are stupid. Posh is a real beauty, not enough meat on her for me, but she is very very attractive. I just hope they can hold it all together when her career starts to fade, if she can find enough to keep her interested then all will be well. I'm off to Tokio in June to follow England, and I for one am glad he is our captain. Mind you I still laugh at the Posh & Becks jokes Den

  8. Not really relevent I know but, hundreds, no it must be thousands, of foxes are killed on the roads each year so why not ban cars as well? I expect that quite of them are driven by Toffs No to be serious, life is changing very rapidly and most of the younger (under 30) people do not associate pictures of scarlet huntsmen as a scene which typifies all that is good about England. They live sanitised lives, very few of them ever visit the countryside on a regular basis, the old urge to wander and explore seems to have gone from the majority of youngsters. Camping is seen as wimpy and most of them would sooner puff weed or pop pills for their highs. They sit in front of their computer aided games and smash empires and all manner of nasty beasts, it is violence all the way,car smashes, plane crashes, anything with violence in it! They then have the nerve to tell us that chasing a fox on horseback is cruel. Half of them are so blooming fat that even if they do get to fish it's got to be sedentary like carp fishing. I'm glad I grew up when I did. Den

  10. Vagabond, that takes me back some years, caught my first fish on a fly (Dace) on the upper Medway. Trotting them down with a bubble float! Probably some of the best years of my life. Den

  12. Usually meant 3years as tea boy and then 1years training. Not if you are a plumber of course, THEY have to have 3years of intensive training to get their ticket to rob, oops! should have said ride Or as my mate used to say "if you had stayed at school for another three weeks then you could have become an electrician" Or better still, as my Dad used to say "electricans! pah! I've shot 'em!! Den

    Test Poll

At least I might now get the chance to actually vote! I keep hearing (usually from politicions) that "x% of the population thinks". Often this % is as high as 80%, and yet no one ever asks me! Perhaps I should get out more and make a beeline for those ladies holding clipboards, trouble is they always seem to beworking for the Gas/ Electric companies. So lets have more polls, I wanna be heard Den [ 04 March 2002, 06:26 PM: Message edited by: poledark ]

  17. I must first say that I have never seen the stuff (but that won't stop me commenting ) It may turn out to be self defeating i.e. the smell/taste may be so distinct that once a fish has been caught it will associate the S/T with danger. Of course no problem if you eat your catch. I think I will creep up to bed now, I am still twitching over Cranfields "what's wrong with this room", only trouble is I'm afraid to open the study door in case "you know what" happens. Den

  19. Jesus wept, that shouldn't be allowed when you are alone in your study at 11.30pm. I had just got up really close to see what was wrong when IT happened. I will be getting my revenge Cranfield Den

  21. I have often wondered why lures are not very popular in England, and it could well be to do with the expense. In my youth I used to spend the whole of each winter (Oct to mid March) spinning for pike, mainly in rivers. The number of spinners that I lost was crippling. I used to have just over a £1 to spend each week on spinners and at 3/6d (17.5p) each the money soon went. Did catch an awful lot of fish though. Adding to this, quite a few of my mates seem to have one spinner/lure in their box's and when bored they get them out and have a go, until they inevitably lose it on a snag. Things are different now I think, we have extremely strong braids probably strong enough to open out the hooks and enable us to get out of snags. I only know one "fulltime" lure angler and he uses 50lb BS, simply to make sure that he does not loose £10 worth of lure. Most anglers would not think to make the quantum leap to 50lb line, even though it is an obvious move. Den

  23. I agree Eddie, pole would be spot on. Bill, I've done quite a bit of that sort of fishing and if you do give it a try be prepared for a few shocks. Many of the fish you will catch will think themselve completely safe (unless someone has been there before you with a pole). They will have learnt that they are safe and may well have grown fat and complacent. Only problem is whether you want to take advantage of modern technology? Once tried, twice bitten I am afraid, and you may well find that normal rod and line becomes just to difficult. Tight elastics, Den
