    Whitby's East Pier

LOL at least i got the right place That lower deck, for someone like me who was just starting out, is a right pain in the backside to cast from!!!, the amount of times i thumped the lead into the 'ceiling' or wrapped it around the uprights, or handrails was unbelievable - it was a good job there was only one or two other people there and none were near me! actually i sort of told a lie, i once just dropped right down the edge and amused myself watching the wee fish nibbling at my bait so i can actually say i saw fish there, though i still didn't catch them, they were too small lol. thanks for the welcome back winter missed ya! XXXXX

    Whitby's East Pier

i would hope at some point soon it does get repaired. I (think) i remember going to whitby as a kid and enjoying myself walking along both piers, the last few times i was there (2002) i fished off the bottom of the other one? have i got the right place here?! lol but caught nowt, though i was only beginning then and didn't care what time of day/night or state the tide was in if i fancied fishing

  18. Went digging around on another forum i post on and got a first hand report from someone that was called out to this.... quote: I actually went to this stranding and can tell you that the carcass was in very fresh condition and there were suspicions that it may have stranded live after being caught in nets. The PM report came back with bycatch, but I don't know whether this was due to pair trawlers or gill net fisheries though. Pair trawling is due to start again around now. As the animal was quite a young male it is possible that it was still with it's family pod, in which case their carcasses may wash up soon; but historically striped dolphins have always washed up dead as single incidents and not part of a larger incident where carcasses wash up over a large area over several days (e.g.: common dolphins and harbour porpoises). To the best of my knowledge no further carcasses have been reported. If this animal was part of a pod then it is possible that the rest escaped from the nets, or were caught and just have not washed up (yet).
  19. A U.S. Air Force reconnaissance plane measured maximum sustained winds of 175 mph (280 kph), with higher gusts, the U.S. National Hurricane Centre said. The plane also recorded a minimum pressure of 882 millibars, the lowest value ever observed in the Atlantic basin. That meant Wilma was stronger than any storm on record, including Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in late August, and Rita, which hit the Texas-Louisiana coast in September. Taken from Here
