  1. It seems the toll will only be from Cambridge to Huntingdon and there will be alternative routes for local traffic. No doubt the alternatives will be like the M6 used by the majority as the toll charges are so ridiculously high. I was on the M6 southbound on Saturday and the vast majority of the vehicles in the area of the toll slips, took the "old, free" route.. I think it was £5.50 for a car? Now if it had been £2.50 I reckon they would easily double or triple the take and make more from it. I doubt I'll still be driving by the time "they" get round to starting the build, mind you I doubt I'll want to drive as "they" are building a new town just off the A14 near to Bar Hill. God help those of us who live in Bar Hill.
  2. I was stopped at Holyhead once and asked what colour diesel I had in the tank. "How should I know" was my reply "I never look at what's coming out of the nozzle because it's stuck into the filler" Happily someone else did have red so they left me alone. "Is there that many so called drivers who do that, its beyond my comprehension how an individual can do the, bloody hell are they colour blind by not recognising RED from BLACK" So Andrew do you really check the colour of fuel as it comes out of the nozzle? Obviously not as legal diesel is actually clear! Unleaded comes out of the GREEN nozzle while diesel comes from the BLACK one.
  3. Post Office every time for me, if only so we don't loose it again. Lost it a few years ago and the inconvenience was unacceptable for most in our village. Luckily the local councillors managed to get things up and running again about 18 months later. Who says Tory councillors are a waste of time? Not me.
  4. I doubt it as they didn't continually swear to try to get laughs. Modern audiences need swearing it seems? Well that must be the case as every modern "comedian" seems to swear.
  5. Eric Sykes has passed away at the age of 89. One of my favourite comedians. R.I.P Eric and thanks for all those great laughs.
  6. Did I hear that the new 4G network, when it's up and running, will be messing up the Freeview signal, meaning viewers will need to buy some extra gear costing a couple of hundred quid to counteract it?
  7. My Dad never went to war as such, he spent the war years using his radio making and repairing skills sitting in the Pye factory in Cambridge having been moved from Norwich. Now none of the other services would have been a lot of use without him and his fellow factory workers. It all boils down to a great effort by the whole nation and its allies whether fighters, land workers, code breakers whatever. Interesting to see the program on Bomber command on ITV tonight, those fellow certainly had pretty poor odds against them.
  8. The police don't revise the speed limits and place signs. The Local or county council do that. The Police can only advise. On the A14 near to where I live we have "average speed" cameras the length of the 11 mile stretch, needless to say very few are caught speeding these days, far better to have put up video cameras to find and prosecute the DANGEROUS drivers using the road. As for flashing, I only do that to female drivers!
  9. Not if they have any sense!! Not that there's anything wrong with Sunderland that I know of.
  10. I suppose on the same score, the UK would also be able to retaliate by sending home all the Spaniards et all. Not that we would of course because the British always like to play fair .
  11. A devout Muslim entered a black cab in London. He curtly asked the cabbie to turn off the radio because as decreed by his religious teaching, he must not listen to music because in the time of the prophet there was no music, especially Western music which is the music of the infidel. The cab driver politely switched off the radio, stopped the cab and opened the door. The Arab asked him, "What are you doing?" The cabbie answered, "In the time of the prophet there were no taxis, so "f" off and wait for a camel!!"
  12. One of my all time favourites who will be sadly missed. Not just a great Disco star but did some great ballads as well. All through the night Great lyrics.

  16. Your clutch wants setting a bit firmer, those over runs can loose a lot of fish. Camera looks good though, is it possible to lower the sound recording level?
  17. I hope you don't mind, but I've had a little play with your images. Is the new lens image stabilised? Get yourself a bean bag for those low down shots. For the camera not you
  18. I think you will find most pictures are taken with those crappy phone cameras that everybody seems to have these days. Plus most have no idea how to frame a shot or keep the phone still.

  20. "The Devil Wears Prada beauty stars in new movie Salmon Fishing in the Yemen " Salmon fishing? Yemen?? Surely not. This also begs the question why would any sane person go to Yemen?
  21. His very down to earth wife basically has said exactly that.
  22. Not sure if any on here will have known John, but got the sad news that he was found dead in his bivvy last night. He was a member on my local water and indeed held the record there with a 34lb Mirror. I think he was a regular on places like Savay.
  23. I've tried John Malcolm Stephenson on Facebook to no avail but I've found a John Stephenson who has a friend called Elton Murphy? Could this be the one?? If so I'll send a let's be friends message.
