  1. so what happens when the mug fish wise up and go from getting caught once a month possible , to not getting caught for the last 2 and a half years and you still know that it is alive because you have seen it. by the way i don't like to give the fish too much credit as being clever its a fish for god sake but they are wild anmals at the end of the day. makes you think though ..lol....
  2. just put a mix on the thread feeding for carp. you could also bulk this mix out with vitalin if using vitalin you wll need to add water or you could up the oil content also use mixed pellets if possible
  3. not a problem mate all you do when you get a run is as you strike you just cup the spool in your hand gently and a quick twist on the front drag and your back in touch with the fish . this takes just a few seconds and is very easy to master. you could also buy the bait runner conversions but in my opinion they are a waste of money as you still have to cup the spool on the strike. hope this helps mate
  4. you can use solid pva bags or mesh ones. mesh is what i prefer but solid ones are good too. with mesh you can make them as big or small as you like. a good mix to use in them is trout pellets sweetcorn ,tuna fish in sunflower oil and some dynamite baits swim stim ground baitand some salmon oil if you can get it if not peanut oil you can get t from any decent supermaket you only need about 50 ml. mix it all up to quite a dry mix then put in your mesh bag tie it up and cast it out .......
  5. get yourself down to cuttle mill its by the belfry golf course. not always easy fishing as it is so pressured but the rewards are there nearly 1 in every 3 fish caught are 20's and there is a good head of 30's in there as well. day fishing only though from 7am untill dusk. you will have to book in advance as it is so popular. tel no. is01827872253.
  6. anchor rigs. apparently one of Frank waricks preferred rigs at on time.have used them myself at cuttle mill and caught about 4 years ago.dont use them any more though maybe its time to try it again on 1 rod may prove to be an edge on my water as i know that no one sees to use them anymore
  7. i have made my own and i agree with you it is a hassle i can do without . i still buy the odd pack of frozen readymades and the usual hi viz tub of pop ups.but nowadays most of my fishing involves trout pellets sweetcorn and hemp and a piece of plastic corn as a hook bait and i still catch plenty lol .THE point i am trying to make is that there is so much hype surrounding boilies .you read in the mags as i left the lake i topped the swim up with 5 kgs.of boilies.that is £50 notes worth who can afford that realistically not many unless your sponsered..Saying that i used to buy boilies off a mate of mine for £4.00 a kg and they was a quality fishmeal with betaine robin red and belachan and that was about 8 years ago and i also know where to buy a good fishmeal boilie from now for £5.50 a kg.the name of the company is QUALITY BAITS in the west midlands . its just that i feel the newcomer to the sport is being told to throw in vast amounts of bait and i think the worst offenders are the major bait companies.and i still believe they make huge profits . they make 1000's and 1000's of kgs. every season.....
  8. just a thought but something that really makes my blood boil.THE PRICE OF BOILES £10.00 per kilo, mental. How much of the best quality steak can u buy for £10.00 ?Every year there is a new bait brought out by the major bait companies just to tempt you out of your hard earned. What about trout pellets if u buy in bulk u can get them for £1.00 a kilo or less. All the reseach that has gone into designing trout pellets and the millions spent on that research and u can still buy them for around a £1.00 a kg.OH and don't forget that they still make profit..HOW MUCH DO THE BAIT COMPANIES MAKE????
  9. rigs play an important part in carp fishing. beware though you could spend most of your time trying out all the new and complicated rigs out there , much better to use the simple rigs like the knotless knot or the same but with a line aliner (a small piece of shrink tube )these i would say account for the vast majorityof fish all over the country.Much better to spend your time brushing up on your watercaft and angling skills and bait application. these things catch you far more fish than the next best wonder rigs... tight lines and good luck on your next seasons angling...
  10. hi i had to purchase some new alarms last year after my fox mmx ones were stolen .any way i wanted alarms with a remote sounder box fox were too expensive so i had a look at the pro logic alarms cant rember the price now but was just over 100 pounds for set of 3 and reciever .what a fantastic buy they turned out to be . i cannot recomend them highly enough i think you should check them out.
  11. how big is your lake and how many fish does it hold also carp don't tend to throw themselves out of the water at this time of year so are very hard to spot the ones thst i have seen at my local lake tend to just head and shoulder and it makes them hard to spot
  12. carp company's icelandic red cranberry and cavier simply awsome and mainline grange.....
  13. has any one tried these arlams or seen them £119.99 for 3 arlarms and reciever and they have tone , volume and sensitivity would like to hear off anyone who has tried them. cheers
  14. prebaiting works well in summer months but in winter i dont know not done it. i dont think i would have time to wait for the fish to come to me as i only fish short day sessions at this time of year.as for fishing to topping fish i always have 1 rod out of 3 that i am prepared to move just in case even on a water that i know because usually on a particular peg u have spots that u fancy more than others.i.e Rod 1 a spot that you would call a banker Rod 2 another good spot but you dont think it is quite as good as ROD1. and Rod 3 which i am prepared to rove about to find another hotspot hopefully...
  15. comus sorry about the delay on reply been on holiday but here goes. At this time of year if u spot a fish at a certain time say 9.00am it is a good thing to try a bait in that area u may get a take straight away saying that u may not get a take for a couple of hours.Carp tend to be very dormant during winter months but the fish will still feed but it may only be for half an hour or so during the whole day. A friend and i fished our local lake two years ago twice a week for the whole of the winter (day sessions only)and after a while realised that any action would always come at the same time of the day you could almost set your watch by it it was always around 2.30pm and would last for half an hour some times a bit longer and then it would go dead again.Fishing can become a bit of a chore in winter but if u keep at it eventually u will get to know the lake better. Talk to other anglers on the bank to see if they are catching and try to find out at what time they caught and note the genral area they are fishing also watch them to see where they are casting and make a mental note (this may have to be done without them seeing u but it has to be done sometimes ahem lol).If u see fish at 9.00am u could catch them from the spot at any time u just need to be there and try. As to whether they move around much i believe they do but weather conditions will dictate. You get some very sunny days during winter and the shallows will warm up quite quickly and if carp feel more comfortable they will often move into these areas so on the right day these areas have got to be worth a try. I also believe carp will hold up in certain areas of the lake and u will fish these areas for a couple of hours, and after recieving no action reel in and try a new area beleving that this area is void of fish when in fact the main reason u dont catch is because u wasnt there at the right time . One important thing to rember is that the carp are wild animals and therfore behave as such making it very hard to know exactly when, where ,and what they will do and everything i have just said may not work for u on ur water but i think if u stick at it it might just start falling together .Right now is a good time to get out there and have a go because feb and early march can throw up some really special results ( and then again maybe not )but that is carp fishing and thats why we love it.....
