  1. Wind the line on you reel submersed in a bucket of water, this stops heat build up. Do not use a pencil or such like to create a spindle effect as this just adds twists to the line. Ive only used the Sensor Clear on my multipliers for Sea fishing and its performed well but I can not comment on how it would perform on a fixed spool. Mind you I've often thought about using 6500 size multipliers for Carp fishing, someone must have tried it. [ 24. February 2005, 05:46 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  2. Snatcher Are you going to use these off the Pipe at Whiley Bay?
  3. Why don't you nip back to Trev's Tackle and go through it all with them. I would imagine some sort of medium weight feeder rod with two or three interchangeable tips will meet your initial requirements. Whilst you are there you can run through the end tackle wou will require bombs, feeders swivels etc. You may not need a new reel as the spare spool provided can be fitted with heavier line to suit legering or heavier float fishing. Legering is an art as much as float fishing and just as intense.
  4. "There used to be some huge roach in the Tweed, from Coldstream down, best baits were sweetcorn or cheese, are they still there?" Sorry just noted wearyones post perhaps he could advise on the lost Roach [ 24. February 2005, 05:12 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  5. I would love one but I already use the original Normark Titan and do not see the need to replace it just yet.
  6. Harris Angling's own brand are not too bad, I use the 9' baitcaster job for my sea spinning and it performs pretty well. The blanks fine but the fittings are not so good but well up to the rigours of saltwater. The range covers everything from ultralights to jerkbait rods, but I do not know how long they will remain available since the takeover by Masterline. [ 24. 7. I quite like Daiwa Infinity duo or Sufix Supreme, that because they are what I am using at the moment. Honestly I do not think there is much between most of the premium lines, as Jim Gibbinson poimts out in his article most of them come from only two or three factories world wide and exhibit the same properties. If I was on a budget I would probably use Daiwa Sensor Clear, .
  8. Never needed it on my wife's Foxes or my Delkims

The kitten looks just like my cat Wilbur, he's just gone to the vets with a sore paw. [ 23. February 2005, 06:02 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  11. Funnily enough I have fished the Adriatic in a place called Klek near Metkovic between Split and Dubrovnik, back in 1996 when I was working on some post war reconstruction for the EU, In Sarajevo. We could obtain tackle easy enough, but bait was a problem and ended up using limpets off the rocks, though I imagine sardine and squid would be available. We caught plenty of the Mediterranean sea Breamy things a few Comber up to a couple of kilos and the biggest Weaver Fish I have ever seen abot 1.5 kilo we fished both from the shore, (the guest house pier) and used the guest house owner's boat to fish between soem islands, but that did not significantly improve things. I would say I have fished in many better places, but at the time it was beggars can't be choosers. [ 23. February 2005, 01:51 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  12. Craynerd Stick with it will all come right in the end everyone has to start somewhere.
  13. I used the largest (6000 size), Sounion in Cuba last year no problems in controlling some serious fish (big snapper and Barracuda. It was so good I have bought myself another standard (5000) size. I have had no problems with rusting of any of the components, the casting of the frame looks a bit rustic, but that does not effect the performance.
  14. Fish Grace, Panic slime contaminates
  15. You also forgot to add the Tahini,(sesame seed paste), one table spoon should be sufficient. This gives the Houmous its flavour and stops it tasting like pease pudding. You can buy Tahini in the dele section of most supermarkets or in most specialist Middle East or Mediterranean Food stores. A couple of teaspoons of sesame oil would give a similar but not authentic flavour.
  16. When I was a kid, we used to fish Bassenthwaite lake in the Lake District, and we often caught what we called blue Pike. These fish were normal pike in every respect, but had a distinct blue green cast to them rather than the usual olive green. Has anyone else had similar fish from other waters, I certainly have never seen them since and I do not know if they are still caught on Bassenthwaite. [ 23. 17. The chewing gum thing has a point have you ever noticed the pavements in the wet; they are covered in the stuff. just take a look outside a MacDonalds or other such fast food joint and you can see the mess it leaves.
  18. www.eaar.co.uk I met the guide for this lot in the hypermarket in Flix I do not know if they are any good but he knew his stuff on both the Cats and the Carp. what you will need to decide is whether you want to fish the Lower River and the delta form Tortsosa to the sea or the middle river from Riba Roja upwards tp Mequinenza and beyond and chose your guide accordingly. I tend to just explore on my own on the lower river down to the delta, which incidently offers good saltwater flyfishing. [ 22. February 2005, 06:20 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  19. When you get to the venue look for some structure an overhanging bush, a reed bed or such like these act as a holding feature for fish in the winter. Remember to have a chat with the fishery owner or Bailiff to sound them out for the hotspots, before you start fishing. Also keep your eyes open for fish moving and be prepared to move swims if necessary, even when its cold they soemtimes still show.
  20. You would have to be well'ard to bivvy up down here at the moment. I used to fish Castle Loch in Loch Maben but that is at the other end of the country to you.
