  1. They look really good, I am off to Cuba again in April and I think these would work for snapper and Barracuda, around the Mangroves. I tie my poppers using the pre-shaped bodies, Bob's Banger style with a part fritz body and buck tail and crystal flash tails. I will try tying up some emore using EAR defenders like you. My only small criticism would be is marabou up to the toothy critters? [ 22. February 2005, 05:17 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  2. Not a session Carp angler then!
  3. Ive been banned from making boilies should not have tried using lug and crab flavour, however I still make pastes using base mixes, flavours and eggs, they work to. [ 22. February 2005, 04:35 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  4. Er I'm in but I am not sure why.
  5. What net do you use for Pike, Peter? I used to use a standard 42" V type with spreader block but recently I have started to use a large 32" spoon type net, basically an oversize match net, it landed a 15lb Pike for the guy next to me on Sunday without any problems. The net is easier to transport, it is rigid so can be pushed through weed and the actual useable area is not much different to a standard 42" net. It also means the conventional net is not contaminated by Pike slime and can be used solely for Carp and Tench fishing. [ 22. February 2005, 01:28 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]

    Mullet

Matt I can guarantee I've seen nothing around Sun Pier (Chatham). I will start looking for the usual lip marks from the middle of March onwards, but I won't be fishing for them until May at the earliest. [ 22. February 2005, 01:13 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  7. The only use for them I can see is for the catch and release of the large tropical game fish, such as Dorado, Barracuda Wahoo Cubera Snapper etc. It might stop the practice of knocking them on the scone and chucking them in the fish box. These fish are large enough not to be damaged by the grip and could be safely unhooked and released. [ 22. February 2005, 01:14 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]

    Off to India

  9. Sue also fishes, she was at the Timsbury fish-in the other week, but she wants to do more session carp fishing this year, I think pike fishing in the cold is getting to her, so we need a two person bivvie.
  10. The biggest I have ever managed on a lure on the Rother is around 10lbs, best on Deabait 23lbs, they do like Sardines on that River. A 30 plus was suppised to come out downstream of Newenden Bridge a few years ago, do you know anything about it? [ 22. February 2005, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  11. I have always fancied having a go for those, I believe they are classed as trash fish (horrible term), in the USA, perhaps Newt or Randy could put me right [ 22. February 2005, 11:48 AM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  12. I've relatives in Canada it makes me want to pay a visit, mind you I have relatives in Louisiana and I believe it is a lot warmer there at this time of year, no Steelhead though.
  13. I am thinking of getting the two man/person so my wife will do more overnighters, (she gets scared on her own. Any views on these? [ 22. February 2005, 11:13 AM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  14. If you are using a solid bodied spod, a Gardner pocket rocket or similar, top the spod up with water before you cast, this tends to keep the contents in. If you are using a spod with drain holes in use a plug of groundbait or dissolvable foam. Never fill your spod to the top 2/3 or 3/4 full is best. [ 22. 15. Budgie The problem is I fish the Kingfisher stretch at Newnden and we have banned livebaits (many years ago), it upsets the matchmen. As a Committee memebr I cannot and will not break the rules, so I am only left with the option of lures or deadbaits, which on most occassions more than succesful. [ 22. 16. If it aint broken dont change it, are your microns causing you to lose fish or miss bites, if they are not save your money. My wife uses Micron Ms and they are pretty impressive for the price. Ive got a set of Delkims (bought when I had more money than sense), and can safely say they do not offer a great deal more [ 21. February 2005, 06:20 PM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  17. John if Steve H has not fly fished before then its easier from the bank rather than the boat, have the new people at Walton Hall opened up the banks for fishing, assuming there is no hazard with flying golf balls.
  18. I know I have had 18 pike in just over three hours on lures before they just were not working yesterday. That said my biggest fish from there a 23 lbr came on Sardine deadbait and most of the bigger fish appear to come out on deads.

    Four!!!

I presume that is the origin of the word foreplay?
  20. Tried every method and lure in my box yesterday on the Kent/Sussex Rother and got trounced by the deadbait angler 3 nil. The fish that he caught were obviously lying doggo looking at the number of leaches on them and did not want to chase a moving bait however slowly it was fished. [ 21. 21. The Ron Thompson Panther match rod and DAM reel for £29.99, looks pretty servicable to me, if its general float fishing you are after. Ive not used Ron Thompson gear myself but most of the kit out of the Svenson Sports stable (of which DAM are now part), seems to be of decent enough quality.

  23. I am off for a long weekend in Spain this coming Friday, so no freezing myself rigid this weekend. Jerez is very nice this time of year. Thanks Mr Ryanair frosty frosty frosty [ 21. February 2005, 10:36 AM: Message edited by: Tony U ]
  24. I have always rated bare nickel hooks for Mackerel rather than feathers they seem to catch as many fish even the black nickel ones.
