  1. Well at present i`m lugging a chair around with me, and also a rucksack, but its all SO unorganised, i`m messing around trying to find anything. I use to have a nice box a few years back when i first fished and i remeber it being much more organised. Still fancy one...nothing too good, but nice enough!!! I will have a think for a while Chris
  2. Ok, i`m tired of carrying a chair around and need to keep my tackle neater! Anyone recommend a decent tackle seat box,is it worth spending a bit on a good one?
  3. Try ibanez.com and select the country. I think the new Ste Vai custom is out soon if you have the ££££....if you have enough £££ buy me one and i`ll pay you back ...slowly! If you are into pretty heavy rock/funk, like Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ect check out my bands website....FREE MP3s of full songs.... download...pain in progress www.publicide.co.uk Enjoy :-D
  4. Nice comment chevin, and i understand where you are coming from. My only response would be to say that, as a "complete" beginner i would rather someone show me the basics and i improve. Yesterday in a post above, somebody said that bigger fish sometimes stay to the edge of the shoals, and i was pleased that i actually found this out myself! A wayward cast actually got me a bigger fish, and i noticed this and started fishing the edges of my feed. Another thing i learnt myself was a better casting technique. Occasionally when i cast in i noticed my hook got tangled with my float, ultimately cutting out and lot of its length and tangling. I found a good way to combat this and get a better cast was to cast in but just the as line was about to hit the water, just tap my finger on the line. This had the effect of jolting the line, every so very very slightly, but just enough to cause the hook end to fly out further, straightening the line and causing a better cast. Is this a common method? It was definitely working for me, even had a few bites immediately as the line sunk in a nicer arc! However, when it comes to things like feeders and ledger rigs, and other intricacies like such, it is hard to just learn those yourself! For example, I’m unsure even how to start using a feeder!!! But i guess you are right, these probably will be the fish i remember the longest! I just thought it would be embarrassing talking about my palm size fish when you guys start chatting about you 10lb+ . lol Chris
  5. Thanks guys!! Gonna go out tomorow, but just for the morning. got a few maggots left so might as well use them on a local lodge than chuck them away! I`ll let you know how it goes... With regards to the pole comment, there was a comp on one of the lakes, and out of the 15-20 anglers there i would say approx 12-17 !! were using pole! Anyways as you say, lets learn to use a rod and reel first ey! Chris Chris
  6. Thank you all very much for those who helped me in my tackle selection and hints and tips in my recent posts this week! I have caught a fish, or should i say 14 !!! All very good after Wednesdays disaster! Went to Bradshaw fisheries, commercial lodge so i suppose it would have been difficult not to catch one as i was there 7 -4:30 but i`m pleased, at least my tackle works ! hehe Now for the embarassing bit....the mojority where no damn bigger than the palm of my hand lol, still was good to learn! And to confess further i went on the practice lodge - lodge 7, so even less skill required! BUT i`m glad it did, i was getting so many bites that i wasn`t worried about missing fish, so it ment i could practice and try out different things! My casting has improved for sure, but i still need to go out with someone experienced to learn the little tricks and hints to bag those extra missed bites! So i can`t wait to go with Jonah this Wednesday, hopefully should be a good day! :-P I now have a feeder rod! However i used the float all day today as i was unsure of the rig setup needed for the feeder or ledger. I imagine i would have netted some bigger fish that way tho! A couple of points i wanted to make: 1) You guys said use little free feed/free bait in this weather, however i noticed a guy sittin near me and he was hammering the maggots to them, about 10-20 every 5-10 minutes! I started doing this and got my bigger fish this way! Is that because i was almost "feeding off" the smaller fish ? 2) Also is float fishing the bottom of the lodge always practicle when the lodge is deep. To hit the bottom i needed to be just under a rods length, i couldnt cast and couldnt manipulte the rod as well with such a length line!? should i have moved to ledger there ? Or do i not need to fish as deep, however i thought u guys said fish off the bottom ? 3) Why the hell is EVERYONE who looks like they know what they are doing fishing a pole ??????? 4) I moved from the practice lodge and into lodge 4 mid way through, yet still hit tiddlers, how do you target the bigger fish ? So there you go.....i would class it as a very successful day for me, i have certainly learnt a lot and got even more excited for the bigger fish in summer! Just need to learn a bit more how to use my ledger rod and i will be much happier! Chris
  7. lol! In final year so i do a bit of work! Wednesday is by far best for me! Venue???? :-D :-D Chris
  8. YEA thats great!! :-D [ 25. February 2005, 07:25 AM: Message edited by: craynerd ]
  9. Hi guys, dont wanna start a new thread as i feel i have been interupting your sensible chat a little too much lately so just have a little question with regards to tactics.... If you were to go out tomorrow the weather being pretty damn cold, fishing for fun i.e whatever type and whatever size fish, in a lake or lodge with little wind....what exact setup would you use??? Float, ledger..?? Chris
  10. ps. any pictures of the venue just out of curiosity?!!??
  11. Steve - just checking you got my e-mail! It doesnt give ur e-mail address just a message box!!! edit note: That will get to him just fine. Is that right....if not then post your address so i can send! Chris [ 25. February 2005, 01:06 AM: Message edited by: Newt ]
  12. I have put on 3.2lb float fishin 100m drennan line. With regards to the spools, they look identical in deapth...the only difference being what i am going to call the coller, the side to the left of both your drawings, ie the left side that the line is pushing against. On one spool this is almost like a metal washer, on the other spool the coller (side) is just molded plastic! Dunno what makes the difference!! Maybe this is effect my casting, its surely not my technique [ 24. February 2005, 05:47 PM: Message edited by: craynerd ]
  13. Urrrrrr......i dont mean to be funny but somewhere between! Not as full as B but not as empty as A. I would say closer to B if anything! Just to check i put it on correctly. I got my mate to hold the lien through a pen, thread it through a few eyes and reeled it on. !!??! There seems to definately be a problem right. The weight of the float and leads should make it fall, but its almost sticking !!??!!
  14. Hi guys, nooby question again. First of all is ledger and feeder fishin the same thing ? I understand the principle with feeder fishing, your feeder offers free food with the hope the fish will pick up your hooked bait in the process....correct ? Is ledgering just without the feeder, and you basically present your bait at the bottom alone ? If this is the case how does this differ to float fishing with the line long enough to have your bait sitting on the bottom ? Would anyone recommend a nice budget feeder rod (this is why i get confused...or is it a ledger rod i want).....basically it needs a quiver tip right ? Is this method as intense as float fishing.....the reason i ask is i would`nt mind setting up a feeder rig while i float on a different section. Thanks for the help....i understand it seems obvious to you guys! I will go to the library at the weekend !!! Chris (i`m not trying to go too fast, just i have the money at present, leave it any longer and i`ll spend it on useless beer!)
  15. Unlucky about the game Jonah, the hangover is due to drowning your sorrows i guess! Your gonna have to be perminantly drunk in that case when glazor gets his hands on you!! Thats great, just give us a message or so i definately get it email....mnbylcr2@yahoo.co.uk or i`m on msn messanger 24/7 nearly craynerd@hotmail.com but don`t email that address or i won`t get it! Ok can`t wait....think i`m gonna have one more go as i can`t wait for the weather to improve....gonna head out Saturday me thinks...maybe Bradshaw lodges near home home (as to uni fallowfield home). Speak soon Chris
  16. You should have come to Sale with me on Wednesday morning as my first ever fishing trip for 5 years! It snowed, it hailed, it was windy and it rained! Think i`m gonna trek out on Saturday as long as it aint peeing it down, improve a bit more for our day out. I should really wait for our trip out jonah but the urge is just to great...........lol !!! Chris
  17. BUMP for Jonah!! still probably gettin over the result! pumpkin Mark, there is 100m of line on the spool and its quite full! One thing i did notice tho was that when the release arm was off the reel the weight of the float and weights wasn`t heavy enough to cause it to fall to the foor without jerking it, as though the line was sticking on the eyes!?!?! could this be a cause? 18. Thanks for your encouragement guys! Jonah13, that idea sounds absolutely fantastic!!! I actually live in Withington just down the road from you about 5 mins walk from Queen of Hearts. It would be your time spent so i am so keen to get out there and try again say when and I’ll jump at the chance! The only days I’m never available is Sundays, but free Mon-Sat, with Saturday or Wednesday being the best days. However like i said, I’m so keen I’ll put whatever off to go! I drive so transport isn’t a problem, however the only thing i may find a problem is your choice of football club! City Til I Die! lol Thanks again for the offer bud, i will certainly take you up on it, just leave your reply! Underwaterimage - seems like we have chosen the worst times, however as somebody has said already, all UP from here! To be honest, I’m just interested in learning the set up, skills and techniques for when the weather improves , even if i catch few right now. Good luck mate! Thanks again guys, was a disappointment today but certainly not put me off! Chris
  19. PS. I can see my float being too light as it was a drennon dimond float requiring 4 AA weights. I was told by andy at the tackle shop that that is the heaviest out of my selection.
  20. Hi guys, pitty ur in the midlands seph, i dont know how long it would take me to get to you from Manchester! We`ll i am listening to your comments and i still think i know too little to even attempt it again. Anyone going out at weekend? Even if i only watch! I`m really dissapointed, i had dreams of me pulling some big fish out today! [ 23. February 2005, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: craynerd ]
  21. What a bloody disaster!!!! Set of at 6am and got to Sale lodge for 6:30. What went right!!!! Nothing! Firstly Sale lodge has building work on one side, meaning No Fishing except on one boaring side with absolutley no features. I selected my place, sat down and began to plumb the deapth, even this didn`t work properly as the large weight kept snagging at the bottom. Anyone i think i did this ok, so i continued. At this point it began to snow! And i mean snow! My hands were so cold i could hardly work with the line. BUT...my major problem was my casting!!! I was ok with the large weight on before, but now i only had lighter weights on with the float i was struggling getting any distance to where i wanted to fish (when i say distance, i dont mean a long way!!!) I just couldnt get the thing out, i snagged on a tree and the maggot came off. By this time my hands were so cold i couldnt replace the maggot...litterally!!! I`d been there an hour and half, and was struggling with the weather. Beat, i came home! How upsetting...and annoying! BUT I AM NOT DISCOURAGED.....although i wouldnt mind going out with an experienced angler next time around!! Trouble is i dont know anyone! hint hint ??? Regards Chris
  22. hi rob.i , yes as i say my uncle fishes there...i didnt know exactly what it was called! now i do, sorry for the confusion! I think i may visit there on Saturday! Anyone any ideas of the best places to fish, near Fallowfield??
