  1. Hey Bill, sorry to hear you are calling it a day. You were the one who got me into kayak fishing when I saw a pic of your converted yak on a site! Also I met my best mate on here (Prowler (Mark)) who I visit in Jersey and we go yak fishing there..... Superb!! We were talking about you as I know you two used to used to talk on here a lot! He is a top bloke (dont know if you ever met him?) he was asking if you still posted. I dont come on here much (just look for posts from buddies from earlier times (few now as the original guys have all migrated to a less comercial site).

Keep the shore fishing going and thanks for introducing me to this great sport. I will catch a few for you on my next Jersey trip (just got back)

Take care Bill, you're a gud un!

    SeadooDave :)

  2. Thanks for that. I've never used stoppers before and the fit took me by surprise. I guess there is some leeway in sizing if you are using mediums since the smalls seem to fit and also to be listed online for the Pro.

I only want stoppers for river paddling, especially since the Scupper Pro has a permanently wet seat, I would never use them at sea. The tank one will help to keep my lunch dry!

    Cheers, Steve W

The practice golf balls (very soft foam) are ideal! Push a needle through them and attach them together with nylon twine (a couple of foot long) push em in place and the string "loop" can be pulled quickly if you need to in emergency!. Or you could do similar to the bespoke stoppers by doing similar with twine. Works great even under the seat one! just lift ya bum yank the string and out they come!! ATB

  3. David, thanks for the concern but my address (and old address) is posted all over the internet, as are phone numbers and email addresses. I'm not exactly low-profile ;)

Besides, everyone in the know avoids coming down my road, unless they're wearing stab vests and conducting a raid (last time just as we were departing on the school run. 5 months surveillance really paid off: target was out.)

  4. Perfectly plain, thanks for the clarification. Saves you claiming

Yes, I have done well out my endless posts and photographs. Tell me, why does that upset you so much?

Funnily enough, what I have gained from JO on the kayak fishing side has not been through my asking. The job comes through being the most suited applicant for a job advertised nationally for months, and yes I did apply for it and hoped fervently to get it. And I love it and want to progress with it. I don't actually deal with the kayak side either as it happens.

As to ruining the board with my posts I like how whenever you (or others) have harped on against them they've been shouted down by far more people. You already know that I started posting reports here again as a favour to Elton who asked me to. Do you know what actually made this board flounder David? It was migration to others that were more specifically targeted to kayak fishing rather than being a subsection of a general fishing one. It happened around the time of a tournament and picked up from there. As the number of forums increased so too did regional ones, and other more 'exclusive' ones. The internet changes rapidly and in another two years it will be different yet again. You can't blame me for this board's relative inactivity David.

You want my address, have it - 35 Grosvenor Road, Lowestoft. Bring some bait with and after we've shouted at each other we can at least go fishing which is mostly what I do in my free time.

Bloomin eck Mark!! I would remove that address if I were you! its ok me n you avin a gripe but you don't want anyone with nasty intentions getting hold of it!

  5. I think it's a good idea. Also put the word out on the boards.

David - to avoid appearing an even bigger tw*tt when quoting Shakespeare, get it right: The line reads:"The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hamlet.

I know the line fine you moron! I was just tailoring it towards you!!

And yes I do mean you, it seems to me you have gained a whole heap out of JO and indeed out of this, what was once fine board, and ruined it with your endless posts of course fishing catches and photos. If you want to get personal and call me a name like above then PM me your address and we can sort it out between us!

    Plain enough for ya?

  6. Yes. Hence all the blatant advertising that is at the top of the screen.

Make your mind up. There's nothing stopping you from organising one you know.

    No it hasn't.

    Right on both counts.

Before I answer the implied question, could you possibly clarify whether I am the person you mean? Last time I seem to recall you blatantly directing your venom at me and insisting that a: you didn't mention any names so i must have been mistaken and b: 'everyone who knows me knows I just speak my mind'. Yes, we know you speak your mind - lots of people do.

    Oh god not again!

My lord he doth profess too much!

  7. Sounds like a commercial advertising stunt to me! Can this forum be used to blatently advertise a product?

Which is why I don't visit this site much anymore as it has morphed into "JohnsonOutdoorsNet.co.uk"!!

Richi on the other hand is genuinly trying to promote the sport of kayak fishing and doing a great job!

I think J.O. are guilty of using folk off this forum with freebies and jobs to cash in on the growing kayak fishing market!.

  8. It worries me when dog owners let their dogs rush over to eat my bait, with sharp knives etc around, I wish they would keep their RUDDY DOGS UNDER CONTROL!

Something dog owners never seem to do, or understand. We don't all want a ruddy great dribbling dog slobbering all over our little toddlers, babies, kids, us etc.

Keep dogs on a lead, always, when in a public place.

This happened at home, nobody else around. I never let my dog annoy others (she is very fussy actually!) However, I would rather have my dog than a screaming brat dribbling ice-cream over everyone!! they are the ones that should be on a lead!.

Mind you, you did buy a Bic!!! nuff said!!!!

  9. Sadly I did the same, never again. It was so upsetting to see. My dog got a hook stuck in his gum. Cost me £50 to get it out too. The dogs never liked visiting the vets since. To say sorry I decided to feed him on best bass from that very day.

    snow001.jpg

He he great picture! Looks like he rules the roost there!!

Forgot to mention the vet cost (hopefully THAT will make people think twice about leaving hooks / gear around too!)

£1,197! (worth every penny in my book but if it makes folk wary then great!!)

    SDD~~~~ :sun:

  10. had a dog pick up my bait off the peir once david ,luckily it only hooked in the mouth although it required a vet to remove it couldve been worse ,also caught me cat sniffing round my gear a couple of times lucky escape me thinks ,hope cassie recovers well she looks quite old .all the best mark.

    Cheers guys

I must admit that is her "RSPCA" look she adpots when a camera is pointed at her!! But hopefully all of us can still learn a lesson or two! I certainly did!. She is 15 years old which is why I was worried about the op (coming round from it is the problem at that age) but she did and is cleared and ready to go on her hols with us to Jersey yehaaa!. Needless to say she will be nowhere near the fishing gear!!!!!

She has come a long way from this pic ha ha! (12 weeks old!)

All the best .... SDD~~~~~~ :sun:

  11. Picking up on a thread from another site!

Dogs and hooks don't mix! I think the world of my dog (Cassie) but was foolish enough to leave hooks with a little fish bait left on where she could get to it! (distracted by a serious event) I have never felt so bad as when I realised that she had eaten two of the 3 hooks and one had lodged in her throat.

One passed through (thankfully) the "normal way" but she had to be operated on to remove the other. I felt pig sick for a few days while she was in the referral vets centre, I really did!. Please dont be distracted like I was and leave hooks around for your (or anybody elses for that matter) animal to get hold of!.

I have added the picture to compound how nasty this is! Like I say my dog means the world to me and I never thought I would be distracted enough to leave hooks around (it was a very short amount of time!)

    All the best SDD~~~~~~~~~~ :sun:

    Hi Marra :D

No problem, good to see another yakker in gods county!!

No problems on Bassenthwaite as far as I know but I prefer Coniston as I have sussed where the pike are ha ha (Thanks to Nifty)

There is a guy who looks on this site now and again originally from St Bees and will be able to give you some good advice on that area (he may see this and reply)

I have had some nice Pollock from St Bees, close in around the rocks of the head so you should do well!. The surf can be problematic at St Bees getting in / out but calm settled weather is fine! I intend to hit Coniston and Windermere a fair bit this summer so if you wanna meet up then no problem (or indeed our coast line!!) Safety in numbers and all that

My pike fishing skills are limited but I have had some great instruction from another site user and am more than happy to pass it on!

You will be able to send Private Messages (PM's) after 15 / 16 posts, so keep posting questions and letting us know how you do to get the numbers in! (I will PM you my mobile!) Also if you are at all unsure about your first few paddles out than let me know and will see if I can make it up there (if I am off wuk!!) :yucky:

I was out Sat and Sunday and have a frezer full now mate  Corking weekend although am kerry packered now ha ha! Keep in touch and let us know how you do if you do get out!

Think its just you and me marko ha ha!! Where abouts do you intend to fish? I am from Eskmeals, just south of Ravenglass Estuary. I have had quite a few goes for the pike on Coniston and it is SUPERB! It surprised me how hard fighting they are to be honest! I always imagined they would be pretty lame but NOT so ha ha!!

  15. Yep, me too  I found this site by accident, when I googled kayak rigging and a picture of Bills (yakkity) kayak appeared and I followed the link to here! Hopefully people will read this link and start posting more

The void is probably due to the pants weather we have been having lately! I have been out a handful of times this winter as opposed to last winter when I was out Loaaaaads!.

Hopefully it will pick up. Good to see you are getting out! I envy you having such access to the broads AND the sea!! Great stuff!

    All the best

  16. Hi all.Another great year for Kayak Fishing in the U.K.With more and more new members joining the fold each year. The safety record for the sport is brilliant, with no serious accidents or injuries being reported. That in itself pays compliment to all who take part, and post on the forums and dedicated U.K. Kayak Fishing sites.Heres to a successful and safe 2008.Bill :)

Not a case of will I get a Bass but how many do I want to catch :D Hope to get up to St Bees after New year , but whether i'll have the room or the permission to take the yak is questionable <_< Hows the cod fishing been this year?? Heard it fished well North of Workington for codling early season but havent heard much re St Bees , Netherton , Braystones or your selker area!!

afternoon edit - apparently there were some good cod catches down the chain below the lighthouse on the North heads - never been brave enough for that trip but accesable on the yak on a good day ;)

    Hey Brittas

Yep heard the codling have been coming in regularly!, wish I could say it had been me but not been out a lot due to weather and work (the usual!!)
