  1. I also frequently use Metcheck, but also use http://www.fishingwx.com/ as second opinion. However, if it is wind speeds you are looking for, then try http://www.windguru.cz/ [/u] Roland
  2. Thanks for the info Chuby, going tomorrow, but as one of the guys is also bringing his wife to teach her to fish, we have decided to go to Wherwell where the facilities are excellent. Will try Brick Farm another time. Regards Roland
  3. I have been asked by a friend to accompany him to try the above fishery, in a couple of weeks. Can find very little about it on the web, any one knows the fishery and can provide information ( i.e. flies to use, average size of the fish, facilities offered etc.) Any information gratefully appreciated
  4. Thanks Fellas Advice gratefully received, I have read up on the subject and my boat partner has several trips under his belt, so we should be pretty safe on that score. What I was really after was advice on lines and flies/teams to use.
  5. Have arranged atrip to Chew Valley in a couple of weeks, in company with three friend (2 Boats booked). This will be my first attempt at boat fishing, and shall be grateful for any advice on methods and flies to use. Many thanks in advance Roland
  6. Steve I cut the fat end of an old quiver tip, conneted the two pieces with a piece of silicone and presto, a swing tip was made for my push in tip rod. It works very well, just make sure that the silicone rubber is a very tight fit. All the best.
  7. Saturday 19 November, went to Wherwell lake for a day's fishing with three friends (Brian, his brother Les and Kevin a complete novice). Arrived there at 8.15 am water low, very clear and the ground was white with frost. We decided to still give it a go and were surprised at the result, we all took our limit (Kevin with some help from us as approved by the bailiff) and Brian, Les and myself then proceeded to catch & release. My personal score was 12 fish caught and released in addition to my four fish taken. The day was reasonably mild and I did not have to resort to wearing a coat. The fish were very active all day, and sport was excellent., in fact so good that the novice Kevin is now hooked and can't wait to go again.
  8. No to be fair my catch of whiting was not very large, but i did sit it out for a long period with a big bait in the hope of a cod. A tatic that paid off with by 18 pounder.
  9. In view of the recent weather conditions, it was with great relief that last Friday evening our trip aboard "Fair Chance" from Dungeness was confirmed as being on. Accordingly, seing our trip last week was cancelled at very short notice, five of us arrived full of expectancy and boarded for a beach launch. The weather proved to be very good, and the rain forecast only arrived after we had loaded the cars for the return trip. Although there was an abundance of Whiting the vast majority were return since they were in the 1 to 1½ lb mark, and only 6 of between 2 to 3 lb were kept. The Cod were much more elusive, and only 6 were landed, 3 small codling were returned, the other three were one of approx 3 lb, one of 6 lb 14 oz and the final one (my personal best) of 18lb 4 oz. All in all a very enjoyable day was had by all
  10. Went again to Wherwell Lake, last Thursday 20th October, with two friends. An excellent day's fishing was had by all. We all caught our four fish limit (all ranging between 2.5 lbs and 4.5 lbs, with the majority weighing approx. 3.5lbs). In addition, between us, we caught and released about fifty rainbows. The fish were caught on a variety of flies, Damsel Nymphs, Buzzers, Montana, Sunken Daddies etc., with the majority of the fish caught in the top 2.5 feet of the water. I repeat an excellent day out, must try to get there again soon.
  11. Hi Tog, A large majority of the trout were taken on Damsel nymphs, some on Buzzers, and some on dries. I found that when fishing the buzzer fewer takes were converted to fish caught, the takes seemed to be very shy. However the takes for the damsel were at least positive and unmistakable. Christchurch sounds like very good value for money, but I am afraid beyond my immediate area.
  12. Chuby, £37.50 for four fish. Please note the fishery is quite popular and is limited to six anglers, so a call to Robby the bailiff (07771845841) is usually the way to check if it is full and save a wasted journey. I have already booked three places for the 20th of this month, to go with a couple of friends.
  13. Fished at Wherwell lake nr Andover on Saturday. The whole lake was rented for five anglers. Despite the very strong gusts of wind, the fishing was excellent, and all five anglers managed their limit of five fish each, and some even returned excess fish. All the fish were Rainbows of between 2lb 8oz and 3lb14oz. Will certainly go again before the end of the month. Roland
  14. The answer to your question Chuby is:- "With great difficulty"
  15. Thanks Chuby, but the week is not over yet. I'm off boat fishing off Hayling Island tomorrow (Saturday), after Bream and Smooth Hounds, and Sunday I'm Coarse fishing at Marsh Farm, Milford. Hopefully I shall have a rest on Monday. It is a hard life, don't you agree
