  1. We live in Lincs (nr Grimsby). Looking for a couple of summer boat trips between Norfolk/Whitby kind of area for a bit of wrecking and the like. Any good suggestions for areas / and(or) good boats and crews. There will be 6 to 10 of us depending on how many confirm, 10 to 14hr trip would be desirable.
  2. Hi It's Ian from UK-Fishing-Tackle.co.uk - We have been running about six months, the floatation suits are by far our best selling items. If any coarse/sea anglers are looking for specific brands or products please let us know. We've only been running since November last year and many of our products we've added through customer feedback. Only other thing to add is UK carriage is 49p to £3.50 depending on the weight. Regardless of how much you order it will never exceed £3.50 Enquiries to anglersnet@uk-fishing-tackle.co.uk Regards Ian Walmsley www.uk-fishing-tackle.co.uk
  3. An afterthought.... How many rod licence fees go to producing press releases telling us how well they are spending the money we pay them....... I'd rather see more action, better enforcement of licences (such as making fishery owners and retail tackle shops responsible for checking them - they do with telly licences), and far less beurocracy(spelling?).
  4. In fairness should the polluters (which are named to an extent in the press release) not pay for this?? Also whilst it shows how our rod licence money is spent (though one wonders whether this will benefit the 625 licence holder whose fees it cost the EA) I cannot think of many schemes around our way where there is investment in fishing/angling as a sport. In fact, the EA netted a bloody great section of our massive drain network and took just about every silver fish there (leaving the pike behind) due to someone polluting a river near Peterborough.......
  5. They look suspiciously like the BlackCatBaits PVA gear, which we've found to be pretty good. They do their string on the tiny little sewing machine bobbins like that. We've been toying with the idea of stocking the Flavourem range, anyone had any luck or ideas on them (never seen them in this area in the other tackle shops). http://www.flavourem.co.uk/readybuckets.html Looks a handy kit, if possibly a little price at £15 retail....
  6. Just a thought - I've never tried, but surely leaving them in something like cochineal (or the modern day equivalents) will do the job. Probably cheaper than specialised dye - if of course it works. My 2 cents anyway...
  7. Dudeks penalty goalkeeping whilst very effective was perhaps a bit unsportsmanlike. As a neutral Liverpool deserved the win on the second half performance, but, one makes you wonder whether if it had been a world cup if some of the penalities might have been given retakes by the referee....
  8. The new ranges of piking jelly shads, with bright and sparkly patterns produce good results (I use Conrad). Rattle shad versions work well, espcially for smaller pike. Trying to think outside the box though can be productive. We were getting nothing last year on spoons one day and by chance tried firetail worms (for sea fishing - we had them in the boot of the car) with a few split shot which worked out great (black worms, bright red tails). I took a few on the old hard plastic frog-type lures last year. If it doens't work fairly quickly, change the lure - with snap tackle it's a fairly quick process.
  9. With you all - just after seems to be the time, especially a really heavy downpour. Got caught in a couple of those english summer-storms last year where it turns really nice after absolutely pelting it down. Carp often come up after such storms and will readily take off the top.
  10. Budget rods these days are probably far better than they have ever been. Our business sells a lot of rods to the beginner/intermediate angler, many of which would be very pleased with a 10lb carp and many not really looking for more than a good low double. I'd be fairly confident going to 20lb with one, possibly beyond. Pricing is definitely a matter of choice. Regardless of opinion you do 'not always' get what you pay for, although I do agree that paying more will generally buy better gear. Reels are a classic example, and many of the cheaper 10 and 12 bearing reels are so smooth Shimano would have struggled to beat them a few years ago. Still though, people will spend up to ten times the price on a piece of equipment that is maybe better quality but one has to look at whether the 'improvement' is truly worth the massively hiked price tag - especially to a beginner. Last season I witnessed a lad take a carp of at least 15lb last year on a six or seven foot shakespeare bright red effort that probably cost less than a tenner (with a single bearing rear drag reel). Didn't even have a bite alarm (just threw a ledger in and watched his line). A fish he'll probably remember for life, and frankly the experience was probably worth many times what the rod cost. I and most others watching blanked that day....it definitely is not all in your tackle.
