  1. Thanks all. Think I will go ahead with the JW Avon.
  2. New member and I need advise please. I am not sure of which rod I should purchase for my needs, and am looking for some learned opinions! I live and fish in Ireland, where there are no barbel or chub, but would like an avon style rod. I want the rod to be primarily used for (larger?) tench and commercial carp fisheries using an alarm indicator with the likely hood of most fish being under 10lbs, but I would also like the option of float or freeline fishing with it on these waters, and with the quiver option to be used for longer work with the method. These will not be fast flowing rivers with snags, but mostly stillwaters, so am not sure which t/c will best suit my needs without under or over doing it. I am choosing between Grey Barbel 1.5t/c, JW sig avon 1.25tc, and the fox options of Specialist 1lb t/c and 1.5lb t/c barbel. I have never owned an avon rod, and already have a preston carbonactive 12ft feeder. Are the quiver options of a 1.25 or 1.5 rod much stronger than I have with the carboactive feeder giving a greater scope for using a method feeder? I am liking the sound of the greys prodigy best but am not sure if I am over doing it for my needs with 1.5t/c considering the waters I am fishing. Which of these rods gives me the best range of options for my needs. Also, if using a jw avon, when ledgering with a bite alarm would you use the it is 11 or 13. What situations would dictate the 11 or 13 options? Lot of questions and any help is greatly appreciated.
