  2. bump... nobody still has really suggested a definitive list of what i should do to ensure i have a productive days fishing on my first day Some ideas: What would you take as your minimum tackle box Bait suggestions Venue locations Rig suggestions Time suggestions
  3. Hello again Time for idiots guide to fishing question 3 When loading up with line, i know there is no 'all round' line that i can use on all venus at all times, and it has been mentioned that it matters as to what you are after as to what line you use The problem facing me, is that i dont know what i will be after lol, if i turn up at a particular still water or stretch of river virgin to me how am i supposed to know what is in there heh (yes i do realise i could phone ahead - but lets get real here, i am a bloke after all lol) So, what i need is a beginners guide to choosing line really, what would you suggest for still waters, stretches of river for trotting or ledger work. Would you generally use 6lb line or is that wayyyy too OTT for some fish and will spook them?, should i use 4lb as standard with weaker or stronger hooklengths Which brings me to another question, hooklengths - whats the point lol, as far as i can tell you use a weaker line, doesnt this degrade the overall landing power of your rig? It all boils down to 2 questions: 1) if i have 3 spools with my reel, what 3 line weights would you choose, my initial thoughts are 4lb, 6lb, 8lb depending upon conditions with 6lb being my general line... but as you have probably gathered i have no clue, im just going on gut feelings... 2) Hooklengths... whats the point...?

What time of the day should i am to get there? crack of dawn till midday or 2-3 o clock till 8 or 9? or suggest a time What should i take with respects to gear? was planning on: Rod, Reel - Fully loaded and hooked up Bait - any suggestions? Sweetcorn, Luncheon meat? Maggots? Landing net License when ive got hold of one Ive got a half decent chair What would be your tips on choosing where to fish, from what ive read/seen under trees and features is a good place to start, do you think i should bait the area up heavy and then float fish or freeline or what? I am keen to get in, but really am overwhelmed by the vast world of fishing before me lol
  7. thanks all for your positive replies, i will have a dig around the forums at the threads suggested and take a read
  8. Hi all Im new to the forums, so to start off with hello to all you reglars Im about to get back into / into properly coarse fishing, and was hoping to ask you guys for some advice about what tackle to get to service my requirements Obviously i am going to need a rod and reel, for these i had marked down a John Wilson signature avon rod (can get them from ebay for 70quid, is this about right?) but the reel i had drawn a blank on, there are so many! so suggestions there would be good. Other than the basics, i am going to need landing and keep nets ive seen a set of dragoncarpdirect for about 20quid, anyone know if they are any good? Overall i would say that i have about 100-120 quid to spend on my new hobby, so my question is - given 100 quid what would you buy, and why... PS - The style of fishing i would probably prefer is float, with some options for trotting or ledgering.
