  1. I've never found one - surprised no-ones compiled one - could be a very popular site I would think. It just so happened that I had to drop an invoice in to a client today, so I put a bit of tackle in the truck and had an hour on the free stretch. Fishing sweetcorn and presenting it to feeding chub, I had a lovely 4lbish one and then a wee one of about half a pound. Also saw perch, dace and gudgeon. May have to pop back with a pint or two of maggots! Thanks for the help Steve. James
  2. Brilliant - exactly what I was hoping to hear. As regards the SCAC water, I'll have my dogs with me as I use them for work and I'll be fishing before and after work, and SCAC have a no dogs policy , hence I joined AKAC instead. Too hot to leave them in the motor at this time of year. Thanks very much for your help - much appreciated. Maybe I'll see you on the bank! James
  3. Thanks for that Steve, much appreciated. You say the next bridge upstream of Cricklade, do you mean the one where the High Street goes over the river, or the one above that? Thanks for your help. James
  4. Whoops, double post, sorry folks! Could a mod tidy one up please? Thanks, James
  5. Hi Folks, Not posted for years, not been fishing for years come to that, but I'm self employed now so can fit a bit in hopefully. I work near Cirencester a lot and have joined the Ashton Keynes AC, but I went to Cricklade yesterday to go to the gunshop, walked the terrier along the Thames path and got very excited indeed by the number of Chub I saw. I understand there's a stretch of free fishing near Cricklade? Anyone know exactly where? Thanks in advance, James

  7. Howdy folks! Not posted for a while, but i do check the forums most days. I'm going to fish an evening session on Apperley pools (the BAA waters) tomorrow night and was after some advice. I went down there on impulse the other afternoon, saw lots of activity from small silvers but couldnt get a bite on breadpunch, so I'll be taking some maggots, but the advice I wanted was really about what else is in there? I've heard talk of Grass Carp, is there any truth in this? if so, what's the best way to target them? What other species are present and what are the best ways to fish for them? Thanks in advance, James
  8. I had an hour out just before last light tonight, had 3 bites off the top, missed one, lost one after about 3 mins, and landed the last one, a lovely 11lb mirror, just as dusk was falling. Well worth a try I'd say! James
  9. Hi folks. Thanks for the replies. It sounds like the Mythe is nearly as hard as I suspected! No, I've never fished any of the other BAA pools, sounds like I might have to give them a try though! Any tips for the other pools Ant, yeah it would be good to meet up for a days fishing, its much more fun blanking in company! James
  10. Hi folks, Has anyone on here fished Mythe Pool near Tewkesbury with any success? I've tried a few times, with maggots, corn, pellet, boilies, on the waggler, lead, feeder, whip, PVA bagging, and not caught a thing. I'm a bit miffed cos I joined the BAA to save money on day tickets, and I cant seem to catch a thing . I'm a fairly experibneced angler, but I've never fished a water this hard before! Am I doing somthing drastically wrong? Please help! Thanks in Advance, James
  11. Hi Folks, The sunshine today once more has my thoughts turning to angling. I was in the tackle shop today and spotted, in amongst the tins of hemp, some little pots with flavoured/coloured wheat in them. I've been doing a bit of research on the net and it seems that its quite a popular bait for roach and carp. Since I'm a gamekeeper, I've got a couple of tonnes of wheat left over from feeding my pheasants through the shooting season, and I'd like to give it a try. I have a couple of questions however... 1) Is wheat an effective bait in low water temperatures (like now!) or would I be better off waiting 'til the warmer weather gets here? 2)What colours/flavours have you folks found most effective for using with wheat? Thanks in Advance, Jamie
  12. Hi Mate. What about electric fencing? sounds extreme, but it would only take 2 wires round the pond, a car battery and a fencer unit. You could turn it off easily when you need to get to the pond. It keeps the foxes away from my pheasant poults, dont see why it shouldn't work on cats.... Any more info needed, give me a shout. Cheers, James
  13. Hi folks, I've been lurking on here for a while, learning a lot but not posting, but I feel i should post about the days fishing i had yesterday. I was fishing the Avon at Twyford Farm, and had sat for most of the day trotting maggots without a bite, when suddenly the chub seemed to switch on, and I was getting a bite about every 3rd run. I played a few fish, and hooked into a good one, looked about 2lb+. It ran, taking line off the spool, and then all hell broke loose! The clutch started screaming and line flying off it. Strange I thought, but carried on playing the fish, and managed to get some line back. As I began to see the fish, I could see what had happened. A pike, looked like a low double, had taken the chub as I was playing it! I played them both for a few minutes before the 2lb hooklength gave up. It was fantastic, such a priviledge to see a predator doing what they do best like that! I'm going back today! Cheers, Jamie
