  1. Hi Phil, As far as I know the Grayling have been in these waters for many years. I fished the stretch of river just outside Pitlochry from just under the bridge where the A9 passes over the river twice now. First time it was –4 and sunny, and only caught the one at about 7”- 8” on a "Czech Nymph Hares Ear & Amber", I was finding it really difficult to get down deep enough as there was a good rate of water flowing. Second time it was again sunny but this time a wee bit warmer at +3. I caught 2 Grayling and a nice trout all on a Bead Head Greenwells. The Grayling again on the small side, 1 at about 7”- 8” again and the other closer to the 10” – 11” mark , both lovely fish tough. The brownie was a nice fish at a good 14” and possibly a good 1.5 lbs. Still having difficulty getting the flies down and controlling them. Cheers,
  2. Thanks Alan, I'm fishing next saturday and hope I see a fish or two moving on the surface, but I'm worried if they are deep as I've never tried the czech nymphs, but nows as good a time as any tolear. Cheers
  3. Hi all, I’m about to try some winter Grayling fishing on the river Tummel near Pitlochry and wondered if anyone has any advice on where to fish and what flies to use? Cheers,
  4. Hope I’ve managed to insert the photo and hope that this keeps the interest going. This is how the cairngorm hills looked last weekend. cheers
  5. Thanks, This looks good, just what I’ve been looking for. I don’t know what to expect from the west coast as I usually fish on the north east coast. So it will be interesting to see how this works out. Not intending to go until January but I will follow up and let the form know how I get on. Thanks again,
  6. Hi, Thanks, used the Stormdrift before, always had good days with plenty of fish. Cheers,
  7. Hi rob, You cant be to careful, best research and plan you walks, the Cairngoms and the Aviemore claim a number of life’s each year to the un prepaired. Try this web site, its great for grading your walks, you can see routes plotted to maps with walk difficulty graded together with distance and expected walk time. http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cairngorms/aviemore.shtml Cheers,
  8. Can anyone recommend a good skipper and boat for a days fishing of the north west coast, from Gairloch / Ullapool northwards, for up to 10 rods? General fishing for Cod, Pollack, Pot, Ling Wrasse, Dab, Dogs etc Cheers, Wild Angler
  9. I’ve used this method when fishing from steep rocks near Portmahomack and Tarbat Ness off the Easter Ross coast and have also caught Coallies and Pollack using this method. It's amazing what some guys will do when desperate or bored !
  10. Not the weirdest of baits but maybe not commonly used when fishing for Sea Trout. When fishing from a beach, Dornoch, Cromarty and Moray firths are my locals, I get great success fishing a string of Mackerel feathers tied to a 10oz lead and held just where the waves break by holding the rod tip straight up sky wards when standing at the waters edge. Best fished as tide starts to come in, stepping back toward the shore when water starts to encroach. The fish hit hard and its not uncommon to hook more than one fish at a time.
  11. Nothing to do with fishing but its funny, as long as your not a Seagull, and has something to do with our influx of immigrants….. Our foreigners are much better than all of your lot…! Reading front page news form our local weekly rag…”The Highland News” I discovered that a Polish Guy has been arrested for roasting Seagulls! This guy was seen to bait his flower box on a second floor flat with bread, wait until some gulls landed and then an arm would appear and pull one of the gulls into his flat. While he was waiting for his next gull to land passers-by could see terrified sea gulls flying around and smashing into other windows of his flat as poor birds tried to escape. The police and RSPCB were called but alas when they got there they could only find roasting bird carcases in this guys oven. The poor Polish guys is reported to have said that he was hungry
  12. Thanks Guys, Been away for the weekend, doing my other thing, fishing the hill lochs, this was between Little Assynt and Drumbeg (loch Poll, Loch Crocach, Loch Beannach and a few others on route) two nights roughing it out on the hills and the hill walking was hard but worth it as the fishing was great. Many fish on all lochs best was around 1lb 4oz – 1lb 8oz, but most fish came in just under the pound mark. Anyway, Its really nice to be welcomed on board by you all and I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and of course finding out all I can about sea fishing. I will of course post dates and locations of my planned trips and also follow up with reports afterwards. Fastd, I’m looking forward to your report on the Scrabster trip keep us posted. Tuggs, Can you give me a quick description of the “Hebridean Warrior” compared to the Karen, how many rods, and rough price…..also is the skipper as good at finding the fish ? Spanner, Thanks for the Gairloch tip, I’ll be following this one up ! Cheers,
  13. I’m new to sea fishing with only one winter under my belt but now looking ahead to this year I’m starting to plan my sea fishing trips. I’m looking for contacts and information on where I can charter a skipped boat for a days sea fishing. I’m keen to hear any reports you may have and of any skippers/boats that you would recommend. I’ve fished out of Scrabster on the Karen on a number of occasions and always had great success….., double figure Cod, Ling, Pollock, Coallies, Mackerel, Flatties, Cuckoo Wrasse. Any info you can give would be much appreciated. Also, it has often proved difficult to fill all places on these charters, maybe 2-3 or even upto 5 spare rods. So if you would like to join me on one of these charters and are able to get to the North East/North West of Scotland I would be very keen to here from you. Cost is normally somewhere between £25 - £30 (Charter, Rod, First Rig set up and Bait, sometimes a couple of hot filled rolls are also included) Sorry if this, also my first Post, is too long ! Cheers
