  1. Newt, If you read the post(?) where did I call any group of anglers 'stupid'? Rest assured, you will have no need to edit any of my postings in future. However, I can recall far worse insults being bannded about on A.N. As for comments on fish welfare from anglers based in the U.S.A. ... Education: Only those prepared to listen can be educated, Peter. From reading some posts on the subject, (barbel welfare) it's as plain as a torn dorsal fin, some are just not prepared to listen. Exellent document Steve, congratuations to the B.S. and all involved. [ 24. August 2005, 09:27 AM: Message edited by: Weary-one ]
  2. Comforting to know people are watching P**A. HERE
  3. From what I understand 'recommendations' are just that, however after 10 years of dealing with barbel issues I would have thought that the B.S. would speak with some authority on the welfare of the species, and I am in no doubt that Steve and his colleagues have only that at heart. It would seem that some might even have us go back to the bad old days when anglers clipped the fins of barbel to make life easier at the weigh-in on matches. Successive governments have recommended that people give up smoking, but there are still the stupid amongst us. Some anglers still use keepnets...
  4. Sounds like he treats them with the contempt they deserve, Newt. They make our Monster Raving Loony Party look almost credible.
  5. Good fishing in Liverpool. If there is, best hide it. Someones bound to nick it
  6. Not sure just which part of the N/E you come from Brian, but all clubs in my part of the N/E have a very responsible attitude towards barbel (with the exception of possibly two clubs on the Wear). Through discussions with local angling representatives the Northumbria EA area is one of the few to have any concerns about stocking barbel into stillwaters. They also very quickly carried out surveys/research into the possible repercussions following the closure of Calverton earlier in the year. Just checked your profile, Brian. Cleveland, now I understand. If you had fished the rivers north of the Tees over the last 30 years you really would have something to complain about. Will post the document on my club site, Steve. 7. Still waiting for the police action to be finalised, Andy. What really gets at me is that I have known this 'member' for over 30years and taken him all over the UK fishing, I've even got him out of one or two tricky situations when I was fitter. Don't worry, the word is out!
  8. I was attacked whilst carrying out club bailiffing.(10th April) I asked the guy to leave the water as he was not a member but he refused. I also asked the guy who he was with (who is a member) to ask him to leave, he said he would not. Things got a bit heated, the guy then flew at me, knocked me over and started to knock 7 bells out of my head, kneck and arms with a wooden post, he then put his boot into my kidney whilst I was still on the groud. Just for good measure he then threw my walking stick into the bushes calling me a 'f'ing cripple. The member who was there said he did not see the attack, but heard it. He stood facing away?? The police keep bailing the attacker but until the 'mermber' can remember what happened the CPS are not willing to take any action. Trouble is as a club we can't even take any action against the non cooperative member as it could be seen as intimidation. Chances are he will get away with it. Good old British Justice. [ 18.
