16th ANNUAL FISHING COMPETITION TO TAKE PLACE
Youngsters will be hoping to net themselves a prize this summer in West
Yorkshire Police’s 16th annual fishing competition.
Bob Nudd, the four times fishing World Champion and England Squad World
Champion, has once again offered his support of the event, which will see
budding anglers compete for the chance to fish alongside their idol.
The event takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Calder/Hebble Canal,
Horbury, Wakefield and competitors are being urged to register their
interest early to secure their entry. Applications forms will be sent out
mid June.
On the day of the match, competitors will be split into three groups, under
8s, under 15s and under 18s.
The lucky 1st and 2nd prize winners of the under 15's and under 18's, will
have the chance to spend the entire day fishing with Bob at Pisces Country
Park, picking up tips and advice as well as a trophy and prize. Under 8's will also
get a trophy and separate prize. There will also be prizes and trophies
for those who are first in their section.
The less experienced angler will also get a chance to win a prize in the
Lucky Peg draw. In the past this has ranged from a quality rod, down to a
bait bucket filled with angling goodies and is thanks to the goodwill of
local tackle shops.
The event is organised by West Yorkshire Police photographer, David Speight
and now attracts attention from all over the country.
David said: “This competition gives youngsters the chance to get involved
in a fun activity and keeps them occupied during the summer holidays.
"We want the day to be fun and make sure all fish caught are released back
into the water alive.
“It has always been a great day out for the family and would urge anyone
wanting to take part to start registering now.”
Those wanting an application form should contact David Speight on 0795 808
3224 or email Silverbugle@aol.com.
Last year’s anglers will automatically be sent an application form.
