  1. Hello Steve, I would also like to pass on my thanks, The gentlemen in question were perhaps overwhelmed but none the less greatful for the indepth information supplied to them. I suspect that we could have been there all day and not run out of points to discuss. Looking forward to the next stage. Regards Barry
  2. "Awesome Cod Barry, thats a huge shore Cod by anywhere's standards, let alone the Solway a few years ago. Not jealous...not at all Do you mind me asking what it fell to?" Hi Flattie, Lugworm on size 2/0 single hook, as we had only been catching flounders up to that fish appeared. Bazza
  3. 29Lb 6oz shore caught Cod, taken from a rock mark on the Solway in 1996. My one and only double figure cod. Bazza
  4. Hi Norman, I would be interested in the Bazooka Pro if it can take 7' tips. Heading to Portugal in September and want to protect expensive rods!!!! Regards Barry
  5. I hope that anyone reading this will take the time to write a letter of support for this guy and his business, I have only used his boats twice in the past but I know that they are a major attraction to the area, and indeed bring in revenue to the shops, b&b, hotels, garage, and pubs in the village. I am not totally against people moving into an area, but I do feel strongly when they want to change the way things are for their own personal reasons, without a thought for the rest of us. I have come across this selfish attitude when I tried to get access to remote part of Loch Etive some years ago, I asked very politely if I could park the car off the narrow road, near to this persons cottage, I was met with a torrent of abuse, How dare I be on their property, I have no right to be there, it was theirs, the rant went on and on. To save any further bother I did leave, but it annoys me even yet when I think about this selfish attitude that "incomers" have. I wish Ian Campbell and his business all the best for the future. 6. A situation has developed which URGENTLY needs your help. Please read the letter below, and follow Ians instructions. Barry Scholes SFSA Taigh á Bhalachain, Airds Bay Taynuilt, Argyll, PA35 1JR Tel: 01866 822121 Mobile: 07801 590235 E-Mail: taynuilt.boathire@virgin.net 15 March 2006 We have a family crisis and need your help. As you may or may not know our Boat Hire Business has presently been closed down by Argyll & Bute Council on the grounds that we attract an unacceptable amount of vehicles down a substandard road. This was all brought about by one neighbour, who moved here 3 years ago who does not want us to run our business from our croft. He has mounted a vigorous and clever campaign persuading 3 other Airds Bay residents, all recently moved here, as well, to support his causes. This man has lied, exaggerated and speculated and his misconceptions have successfully led the Council to believe that we attract up to 10 cars a day, which block the road, whose occupants leave rubbish lying around and whose activities pollute the waters of Loch Etive. This is not the case. We have fought our corner over the pervious year and have now won the right to a public enquiry which will be held in Taynuilt Village hall early in June this year. We need your help and support in the form of letters of support to the enquiry. We rely totally on the income generated by the boat hire and if it were to close, permanently, would mean the end of us and everything we have worked so hard to achieve. There is also the loss in revenue to the local tourist industry, from Hotels, B&B’s, Self Catering to local shops. We provide hill walkers and cyclists with a taxi service up Loch Etive. We also provide residents of the upper reaches of the loch with transport. Our boats are used by the emergency services and mountain rescue teams. They have saved lives. The boat hire is a way of life and has been for over 20 years. What a pity people choose to retire to the West Coast and then try to change the way of life which in some cases has been going on for generations. Please support us by writing to:- Douglas Berry Scottish Executive, Develop. Department Inquiry Reporters Unit 4 The Courtyard, Callendar Business Park Callendar Road FALKIRK, FK1 1XR Using the above information and any other thoughts you feel pertinent. Please send 2 letters, one from each adult. We need hundreds of letters of support. Tell your friends and family; ask them to write as well. I cannot stress the importance of these letters enough but our very existence and the future of our young family depend on your support. Please submit your letters before 23 April 2006. Don’t worry you don’t have to attend the enquiry personally, your letter will suffice. We thank you in advance. Yours sincerely Ian, Fiona, Fraser and Chloe Campbell
  7. Cheers Elton, What I didn't mention was that i was one of the blankers!!!! He does like getting one over on me, hope it doesnt become a habit!!! Bazza
  8. Good to see a sense of humour returning to AN, p.s. Elton, My 12 year old lad Adam, caught a 7 oz flounder, 5 days ago, and was 3rd in our 1st club match of 2006, winning 30 quid (it was also the 2nd heaviest fish of the day). 20 people fished with only 5 guys weighing in 1 fish each. Too many numbers?...... Bazza
  9. Flounder fishing used to do nothing for me, until I discovered the ultra light rods and tactics for catching them. Used to use standard beachcasters etc. The right tackle for the job is a must to get the best out of these obliging fish. I now use an 11' foot Mustad Multi-tip rod or a 15 foot heavy feeder rod from Shimano whenever I can. Much more fun. Bazza
  10. Well done Leon, to you and all the people who have helped to make SACN a success. Keep up the fantastic job you are doing. Barry

  15. Report from the meeting in Glasgow with SNH, Sport Scotland, SACN/SOS, and the SFSA. Representatives from each of the above organisations got together to discuss how RSA (recreational sea angling) can be best represented in relation to the proposed Coastal and Marine National Parks for Scotland. Ian Burrett and Barry Scholes explained why we believe RSA needs to have a more direct in-put to the consultations, and to the advisory groups who will report back to the Scottish Executive, before the critical decisions are made. RSA in Scotland will be affected by the decisions taken on the placement, structure, and management of Marine Parks. It is therefore in the interests of all sea anglers to have a say on future developments, to help protect, preserve, and enhance our sport for the benefit of all. SNH representative Peter Rawcliffe listened intently as did Campbell Gerrard from Sport Scotland, they were surprised to learn that the objectives of the Scottish Federation and the conservation groups closely matched the base ideas SNH had for the parks. We took the opportunity to advise SNH and Sport Scotland of several examples of the value sea angling across Scotland and how that could be impacted or enhanced by a Marine National Park. We discussed the role that Sea Anglers could have in the Marine Parks, with possible feedback routes to the state of the park, quality of the environment, etc. Effectively being the wardens for the coastline and the seas beyond. By the end of the meeting we had the assurance from SNH and Sport Scotland that they would take every opportunity to consult with the SFSA and SACN. I would like to thank SNH and Sport Scotland for taking the time to meet with us, it is important that RSA has representation at this stage, as it will help us to gain further representation within other Scottish Executive agencies such as SIFAG. Regards Barry
