  1. Sorry for a late reply – just seen the post. Bolam lake is fairly small and holds a lot of small pike. QEII is much bigger and has produced double figure pike in the past. Killingworth Lake holds Pike however, not many fish for them on this lake so I am not sure if anything has been caught recently. All 3 lakes have day tickets. Slightly further south you have River Tees, Yarm – free stretch but very popular with pike anglers. Double figure pike are very common here on this stretch. Hope this helps.
  2. If anyone is thinking of buying winter boots make sure they have padding inside otherwise your feet will get cold very quickly. Especially as the winter sets in and the ground get frozen..
  3. When fishing for smaller stuff such a roach, perch I would use a feeder because it works best for me on our local rivers… However, if I am after chub of barbel then I would be using a method with bread, tuna etc.
  4. I had mine checked January of this year for the first time in 5 years however, it was probably the only time I forgot my licence. Luckily they phoned up and checked my details and it was all confirmed as valid. L
  5. The competition was held on Sunday 20/11 with 15 rods fishing on the day around Whitburn area. The condition were difficult once again with very calm sea however, John Davies managed to use his skills and determination to land a superb 4lb 2 1/2oz cod using rag worm and peeler crab from Whitburn Rocks. The second place was awarded to Lee Alderson with 2lb for 3 whiting. The 3rd NE-Fishing Sea League Open competition will be held at Roker Sunday 4th Dec 2005, meeting and registration will be at the entry to Roker Pier between 10am – 10:15am. Entry Fee is £3 with optional £0.50 raffle to win a NE-Fishing t-shirt. For full details please contact me or visit www.ne-fishing.co.uk.. League Sponsors – Sam Harris, Billy’s Fishing Tackle, and Ian Woods Game Supplies.

  8. Hi, Having pike fished around Newcastle for the last 3 years I know that we have a very limited number of quality pike waters. QE2 is a good starting point. Big water and therefore you need to search out the fish. Bolam Lake is excellent for small pike and can be fished on a day ticket. If you don’t mind travelling for an hour then I would recommend River Tees in Yarm and it’s free to fish for all rod licence holders. If you need any more info get in touch. Hope this helps.
  9. Hi, I hope there is something behind this question as it would be great to see fishing programmes on normal telly. I for one have been campaigning for this to happen.

  11. Hi Brian, thank you for a nice welcome and I will try my best to help out with the northerly issues.
  12. I got mine from Tesco’s about a year ago for only £14.99 and it’s served me great. I use it for both sea and coarse fishing. The batteries last long time and very bright.
  13. Speaking from experience there is a lot of unlicensed anglers out there. Majority of these anglers will have no idea about the rod licence or permit requirements. I know we all say well you should find out before going fishing. Unfortunately, the new comers to the sport might not know that you have to pay to fish your local river. I personally think all combo/beginners sets should come with information about licences and permits..
