  1. That's great Rob, thanks !!!! so although they contain no preservatives will still keep (after drying) at room temperature in my bait cupboard. Wifey is forever whinging about not having enough space in the freezer due to copious kilos of boilies so I can air dry the lot and store in plastic type sealed containers without worrying about them going off.
  2. do boilies need to go back in freezer after being air dried or will the keep (as shlef life) without being re-frozen?
  3. I think Fox do something like this for pike fishing, might be worth a sniff.
  4. ............. anyone else go along? We had a great day out, grabbed a couple of bargains t'boot.
  5. Well, anyone going then????????? Kestrel & Me good self'll be there tomorrow.
  6. hopefully it's not the "black stuff" then, membership only kicked off yesterday so not fished lake yet. Membership secretary told me about fishin the silt when I went for a look round a week or two back
  7. C'mon guys, this is cracking kit, a little dated I know but quality kit and will last for years. It's going on "flea-bay" this weekend so save y'self the hassle and contact me now.
  8. Thanks for help and info TT, very useful. Will check out show on Saturday for bargains and then consider a set of these. Anyone tried or played with the Matt Hayes jobbies on here, Tacklebargains doing set of 3 for £99 !!!! £50 off RRP
  9. Thanks lads, a picture is forming.
  10. .........as previous post I'm going to a lake where dropping a bait onto the silt is a "winning" line of attack (or so I'm told). Rigs, I think I've mentally cooked up something to deal with sitting a bait just on top of the "black-stuff" so that it sits half in-half out and remains on view. However, which style of lead is best? I've heard in-line leads are a "No-No" and that pendant method is best. Which shape sits in silt best to give best presentation? Would putting lead into a pva bag help and stop it sinking too deep into the silt. Also, should I use a stiff hinged hook length or is a softer braid type better????
  11. Think you put me onto this before, looks like ok kit, sounds like you're happy with it. Pressume alarms ok in all weathers and reliable? Goint to Carpin' On show this Saturday so hopefully will pick up a cheap deal on TXR or similar, if not will consider GF kit, £124 for 3 alarmed set up is brilliant value. How good are the alarms, have you had any problems with them????
  12. Just bought two (arriving tomorrow) from ebay, only need one so second is up for grabs @ £45 + £5 for next day courier. Don't need to tell you what great reels Shimano produces so grab y'self a bargain before I stick it on ebay at the weekend. PM me or reply here.
  13. Borntofish it's never too late, makes a lot of sense what you say and give me plenty of food for thought. Will need to play around with the ideas and develop my own way. Thanks again Buddy
  14. Only joking Buddy !!!! I know you'd gonna get that 30 mate and y'right is is just a matter of time, stick at it Anyway, at least you're out there trying which is more than I can boast at the moment. Will be soon though, especially after 1st March when new ticket cuts in.
  15. Thanks guys, take on board all you've said and will have to have a fiddle around till I get it right. Great Help !!!
  16. Face it Kestrel, you're a born "Blanker" mate.
  17. Good idea, should muffle them slightly
  18. I know exactly what you mean John, nothing winds me up more than people leaving alarms turned on when setting up bobbins etc, always turn mine off but give a quick tug when set to make sure everythin A-OK before returning to bivvy. Like I said, my "el cheapo" Fox ES alarms are so bl@@dy loud even at lowest volume that any run or liner will wake the whole lake up, I'm sure other anglers, like you, won't mind too much but would prefer not to disturb them in the first place. I know when I'm dozing (don't sleep too deeply) in the early hours, I jump EVERY time I hear a bleep, be it from my alarms or other peoples. It's like a spontaneous reaction usually followed by the word "sh!t" as I realise my bobbins are motion-less and the chap across the lake is bent into a fish. Also, screaming alarms will sometimes attract a crowd (even at 2am) and i don't like playing fish with an audience, don't mind after fish is on mat but not while my rod is still bent, too many people try to help but end up hindering and to be honest I prefer to land my own fish.
  19. I only use "el cheapo" Fox ES alarms and they do a perfectly good job. However, I'm moving onto a small (5 acre) lake this year and figured so as not to annoy others I maybe need to get some kind of plug-in remote sysyem to make alarms quieter (or even silent). I don't want wires everywhere so looking for reasonabley cheap option that'll allow little or "no noise" outside bivvy. I've done that "turn them down" thing but even on lowest setting still VERY loud at 2am on a small cosy lake in the middle of nowhere. It's not a "secretive" thing, I'm only too pleased for others to know I'm catching but really don't want to be "Waking th Lake" every time I get a tug.
  20. The lake I'm on this year has silt channels at 30mtrs and i'm told these are good spots to target, trouble is most of my carping to date has been done on gravel pits with little or no silty areas. I've always aimed to fish on the gravel patches (between weedbeds) and never experienced silt. I assume po-up approach is best but how do I place a baited rig into the silt and be confident it's still in view of passing fish???????????
  21. Anyone got any favourites they'd like to share with us..................
