  1. little onions - You don't happen to be related to Joan Crawford by any chance? I watch reruns of "Mommie Dearest" just to see her metal hanger rant!
  2. Peter - I've been racking my brains trying to come up with a suitable rejoinder to your Dick Van Dyke comment. Best I could come up with is, "Oh yah?" and beat a hasty retreat.
  3. Peter - Hollwood and the British film industry settled this long ago. Americans got the exclusive to play war heros, the Brits got the exclusive for vampires, mummies and cannibals. What could be fairer than that? DaveK
  4. Hi Tinca61 - Try www.EL.com/to/oregon/ lots of links and information on Oregon. I think Newt's advice on buying from Cabellas or BassPro is best - they know how to ship. I never tried mail order from GI Joe's, so don't know how they perform. A couple of things to keep in mind: Canadian Provences and Western States are big, things are mostly spread out some, so travel time should be considered. Oregon itself is just shy of 100,000 square miles (a little less than half the size of France) with a population of around 3 million. Much of that population is in a roughly 40 mile wide by 80 mile long strip from Portland to Eugene. Our "Wild West" is on the East side of the state, the Pacific Coast reminds me some of Cape Cod and several other places, the Willamette Valley (that's kind of between the two and where most people live) can be very pleasant in a Mid West kind of way. There's probably a free info package available to you. Oh yes, we have micro brews here. Might not be to your taste, but much mo betta then BudLite! Dave in Oregon
  5. Nurse Judy, Yup, I'm opposed to female circumcision, as well as murdering a gal for having a baby out of wedlock, slavery in general as well as in Sudan, and a whole bunch of other things. Condoms may help with one or two issues, and maybe that's a place to start? That, and just kind of thinking about the difference between here to there? (I did say earlier that my lips are sealed, but I didn't say anything about my typing finger.) DaveK
  6. Liam - I understand now. I do apologize to you for my outburst! DaveK **************** Now I'll take the hint posted by others, and take my decrepit, although non-hippy, ways off this particular subject, and go back to another issue I've been trying to figure out: Why has Sudan been placed on the UN Commission for Human Rights, when there is an active slave trade by the Sudanese Moslems against Sudanese Christians and Pagans there. But I'll keep that one to myself.
  7. Liam - From your post above, you have me in agreement with Newt. Its just the opposit. I can and did say NO, through the means provided, to murdering this woman because she had a baby out of wedlock. This may not seem much, but it is an issue I can understand, and a way to voice my protest was there. I don't know much about Amnisty International, so I cannot comment on that organization. I also don't know Ophra Winfree's track record regarding sticking to an issue. DaveK
  8. Hi Newt - I choose to be involved in the world. Due to advances in communications, I figure that what happens somewhere else, happens right in front of me. So perhaps they should do as you indicated and punish her by making her raise her child as a single parent. That works for me. DaveK
  9. Very impressive arguments in favor of capitol punishment for getting knocked up out of wedlock. Whether you just don't want to get involved, its none of your business, if you're absolutely in favor, or you just want to be contentious means little or nothing. Your actions do lead to results that are just the same. Me? I've always been against murdering some girl just because she got pregnant. I assumed that everyone else was too - guess not.
  10. Roy - I can understand your feelings regarding capitol punishment. I just happen to feel differently, and that under some circumstances, the death penalty is appropriate. IMO, cold blooded murder for gain is an appropriate circumstance. ******************** Jim - I'm not Newt of course, but it appears they were using a civilian model (semi-automatic) version of the M-16 as made by Bushmaster in Maine. From what I understand, they were shooting at ranges from 60 - 140 yards. I did not hear that they were using a moderator (attached to the rifle), what we would call a silencer. Apparently they had been doing at least some shooting from within their car when it was stopped, and had even cut a hole in the rear to shot out of. We'll hear more than we want to about this, when it goes to trial.
  11. Elton - I figure anyone with a TV or radio or newspaper or Internet connection or a neighbor over the back fence with any of these would have been fascinated with this murder spree. ************* Roy - In addition to the Alabama murder, the police in Washington State are now looking into the murder last February of a young woman who had a 6 month old baby - she was living with a woman who testified against Mr. Mohammed in a child custody hearing. The credit card the accused murderer's tried to use apparently came from a bus driver murdered in Arizona. Will there be more murdered people linked to these two? For sure, this has suddenly brought a whole new meaning to me of, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Cuts both ways as far as I can determine.
  12. Well chesters1, like I said, you're full of it. I assumed I was addressing a current subject. You seem to want to go back in time. So tell me, did the Normans win or loose? I hope I didn't intrude on your cannon polishing and dreams of the glory days. Betcha wern't there, huh? OregonDave
  13. Oooookaaaay! You folks do as you want. Odd thing about the attack on the Towers: Almost every religion was represented, most every race, and several nationalities. Everyone's lumped them together as "Americans", including us, because their blood, bone and flesh is soaked into our land. Where'd you folks bury the couple of hundred or so British subjects that died that day when the Towers went down on them? Were you able to scrape off enough to bury? chesters1, you be full of it. Newt, luv ya babe, not that much. OregonDave
  14. Yo chesters1 - There's always agendas, hidden or otherwise, in any transaction between one side and another. Both sides bring all their baggage to the party, and the "winner" gets to impose his on the other. I'm not pro war by any means, but I am for self defense. To me, there's something fundamentally wrong with the extreamist Moslims. I don't know about you, but I'd just as soon not live under their rule. Is there a single Moslim ruled country where you'd immigrate, become a citizen? None come to my mind. Thanks again, DaveK
