  1. Sorry folks but its about time we stopped knocking every fishing tv program. Good or not in our opinions it still promotes angling. Yes we all loved a passion for angling but those shows are very few and far between and apart from anglers not really watched by the general population. TV has tried many variations over the years some good and some bad , but to put down every show that promotes angling will only see it decline further.
  2. I,m planning on doing a few over nights for bream , have never really targeted them this late in the season would you go for a heavy feed tactic or sparse feeding with just lots of scent. I'm in two minds will they be active trying to fatten up for winter or whether they'll just be looking to settle down looking for the odd morsel.
  3. Personally i'd take a double tiered approach. Soak in disinfectant for 24hrs Then leave to dry thoroughly in the sun preferably
  4. The thing that stood out to me instantly was the weight wasnt big enough for a fish that is 3 times his size.
  5. As Phil says or as an alternative to not use hair rigs etc. method one buy normal pellets for feed and use soft hooker pellets ( brought ) on the hook you do need to use a reasonable size hook though say a 10 or 12. method 2 Feed normal pellets , get a potato, slice about 6mm thick and use a small meat punch to produce pellet size pieces of potato , then colour with coffee grounds to match the colour of the pellets , you can even add flavouring if you prepare them before hand.

  7. 50 Yds isnt really that far at this distance you have a few options pellets in a dissolvable bag is no different to using a feeder except more expensive. First option but least accurate is catapult groundbait balls. next would be start with an oversize feeder to introduce larger amounts to begin with ( i have a cpl about the size of half a coke can) then switch to normal feeder once you have the initial amount in. Or spod/spombing . the last 2 are of equal accuracy done correctly. My main approach would be around 5 or 6 large spods of particle then normal feeder approach. Clip the spod rod and feeder at the same distance by either using 2 bank sticks or just walking it out. I dont bother allowing extra amounts of distance for the feeder because in my view a feeder dropping through 6ft of water on a tight line at 50 yds would produce an arc of very little consequence.
  8. Over 10 yrs since i last went dont hear anything aout it now. I suspect people are more interested in going to france and spain for the cats and carp than going to Ireland for the craic.
  9. I bet the pike at Wingham would love that for dinner. (i mean the drone not the boily)
  10. Mine arrived today so 14 days . Still plenty of time before season starts
  11. Doesnt say how much a club ticket is. The oakley bit was that the old oakley main section we use to use in the luton and district summer league
  12. "People who break the law by fishing in the close season are often guilty of other offences, and not just those concerning fisheries. This is why we have the police on-board nationally, and of course the UK National Wildlife Crime Unit, to support the Environment Agency." If the UK National Wildlife crime unit were that interested they would ban all activities on rivers to protect all the wildlife not just the fish. The closed season is really just a joke when canoeists , boaters dog walkers, and others can disturb the banksides and water ways with impunity.
  13. Out of interest where about's north of Bedford , I know a few areas that hold some decent size bream. Only going by the tinge of colour on the tips of those scales i wouldn't rule bream out.
  14. Ordered mine on the 4th of March so one week and counting now. Still plenty of time before its needed but your making me wonder.
  15. If it is just swans and not ducks as well it would suggest that either the toxin is to high up for the ducks to reach. Or its somewhere away from the waters edge the swans have been grazing but the ducks haven't
  16. Thanks Steve for bringing it back to topic , i never mentioned out of season and would never fish out of season on a river. The main reason i asked is i didnt join any clubs this year i know of a few reasonable day ticket river areas but the thought arose knowing how often i've been approached on club waters when i have been a member, How often do these same waters get fished by none members with no-one ever noticing.
  17. I didn't mean i was going to poach, Plus i travel anything up to 150 miles for work so local area is the entire country almost. It was more a thought of how tempted do we all get when we see that nice little stretch of river etc.
  18. I know this is wrong and haven't ever done it yet. But i wonder how many of us are very tempted to fish venues we dont have either permission to fish or the relevant club book. With the end of the river season coming soon there are a lot of bits of river i doubt i'd see another angler on let alone a bailiff . Would you risk it ???
  19. Like others my dad took me fishing in the early years but wasn't a committed angler. I learnt a lot from cousin who was much older than me and use to go with him when he was match fishing. I read a lot of books and magazines when younger but to be honest they were either already out of date or everything was an ideal scenario. that didn't match the waters i was fishing. So i guess i learnt most on the bank side watching others and learning a lot of things the hard way , by trial and error.
  20. If only the critters were that small the crayfish i've caught in the ouse are 6"+ , far to big to be used as bait. For what is an invasive species (signals) The law once again is an ass in that they cant be netted or controlled.
  21. Its a question with no exact answer everything depends on the situation. I carry a range of tips from 1/2 oz to 3oz. small pond ,no undertow i,ll use the lightest one i have so the 1/2 oz larger lake might have undertow so i might need to go slightly stiffer. Big river like the trent or the severn i'll probably be using the 3oz I will always use the lightest i can get away with
  22. Trying to forget my first outing this year. I managed 3 crayfish no other bites river was ok when i arrived but rapidly started rising and turned chocolate within the first hour. Should have cut my losses and left then.
  23. end of april i think , same night we had that hard frost that andrew wrote in his chair
  24. The 17-8 looks like the one i caught at 16-10 in 2012 my photo's werent that clear though
  25. In my experience its not always just the bait but your confidence in it. If you turn up with maggots and just put corn on the hook occasionally , after 5 mins you'll switch back to maggot.
