  1. Hi, I have a WILDERNESS SYTEMS TARPON 140 FISHING KAYAK for sale. I bought this kayak new 2 years ago from AS Watersports in Exeter, and it is probably the highest specification and quality sit on top fishing kayak you can buy. This brilliant boat comes fully fitted out for fishing with: a Scotty Rod Holder in front of the paddler; 2 further rod holders behind the paddler’s seat; huge bow and stern carrying capacity; a flat deck in front of the paddler for keeping essential items; and a padded/adjustable back rest. (Follow this link for more information within a full review: http://www.anglersafloat.co.uk/Review_Tarp...%20Angler.html) In order to further improve the setup, I have also kitted it out with an anchor “pully” system and an Eagle Cuda fishfinder. I have used the boat approximately 10 times and, although it has been brilliant and helped me catch some cracking bass, it has to go to make room in the garage for my new toys! (A whitewater kayak and a boat!) Basically the boat is ready to go for the season and is absolutely superb condition -it really is like new and the first to see will buy! I am happy for any inspection and I have photos which I can send to anyone who is interested. Cheers, Jody
  2. Hi there, I am sorry to hear that you need to sell all of you kit, however I am interseted in the handheld vhf if it is still available. Could you please tell me the exact model and age and how much you wany for it? Thanks, fishtr8
  3. Hi there everyone! I have been enjoying the wonderful sport of kayak fishing now for about 18 months with varied success?! However my brother, who lives in London, has regulalry heard tales of my experiences and is keen to join me on a couple of trips when he comes down here to Devon on holiday in the summer. Does anyone know anywhere in Devon (my local launches are within the Teignmouth and Exmouth area) or Cornwall (we could easily plan a little camping trip!)where I can hire a SOT kayak for the day or week etc. for him to use? Here's hopefully, cheers, Jody
  4. Hi all, I have been reading on some websites about the negative effects that line clips (used for easy atachment and quick changing of lures) can have on the action of the lure. Many of these websites recommend the use of the Rapala knot, I thought I would just ask to find out what people use (i.e. clip or knot) and if it really makes any difference to the catch rates? Also does anyone know if the Rapala knot is OK with fluorocarbon? Cheers, Fishtr8
  5. Thanks for the reply GB. This is what I thought! Maybe someone on here will come up with something ingenius, but I have a feeling that I will just have to try it out on a fishing trip pretty soon!!
  6. Hi all, Thanks to all of the replies to my previous replies on fitting a fishfinder. With this info. and after many hours (?!) researching other posts on this forum I have bitten the bullet and fitted my fishfinder today! I think that it has all gone well so far, but have one final question which I hope someone can help with! In order to have some flexibility in re-placement and permanancy of the transdcer I used Dow Corning silicon sealant, rather that epoxy, to fix my transducer in place (as recommended by many on this forum). However I am aware of the risk of the air bubbles in the silicon affecting the efficiency of the set up, therefore I am wondering if there is a means of testing for any problems in my fininshed set up prior to actually driving for 40 mins to a launch site and actually testing it there! Any ideas would be welcome! Cheers, fishtr8
  7. Hi, I know there is a lot of different information on here about fishfinders etc. but I am finding it difficult to find exactly what I need in a conclusive form. I have a Tarpon 140 and have recently purchased an Eagle Cuda 168 fishfinder. My questions are: Is it OK to just araldite the transducer in place or is it worth the extra time/money/energy to follow the noodle/vaseline route as advised in projectprowler? How long will the tranducer last if I do only araldite it? Which method have current fishfinder users actually used for installing theirs? Are there any users of fishfinders on a Tarpon 140 who could send me some pictures/advise on their functioning setup? Heres hopefully, Fishtr8.
  8. Just a quick one this! I am looking to buy some upright bars for the roof rack in order to hold two sit on tops securely on one roof. I am looking at the Thule "Stacker" (http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/canoe-kayak-racks.htm) or the Eckla uprights (http://www.kayaksandpaddles.co.uk/canoe/kayak/uk/shop/productpages/equipmnt/roofracks.htm). As there is a large price difference can anyone recommend one over the other through experience. Thanks!
  9. Thanks everyone for the replies! Keep them coming! I am strongly with jonsok 1 so far as you talk of real experiences rather than hearsay and old wives (mothers) tales! I also have noticed that Mr Everett recommend the use of neoprene waders in this week's angler's mail writeup on kayak angling. Surely someone with his expereinec can't be wrong, can they?? Fishtr8
  10. Hell all, I am new to this kayak fishing lark and have thoroughly enjoyed my summer of fishing in board shorts or shortie wetsuit (+PDF of course)! It is the winter that I am approaching with trepidation! After having just bought an excellent YAK Vision dry cag at AS Watersports' show last weekend, I am beginning to equip myself for the colder months! However I am still very unsure about what to wear on my legs. After reseraching this site I found the report on Neoprene Wader myths (http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=65016&hl=waders#entry649481) and was amazed to see that they are strongly recommended as a safer option to other alternatives so I have purchased some! However throughout this purchasing ALL of the assistants in the fishing shop explained thier very strong views against the use of waders on a yak due to the "Extreme dangers of drowning when falling in!!!" Please could you help settle my confusion once and for all!! How many of you use neoprene waders as your winter kayak wear? How many of you have experience of falling in and "reboarding the yak" in neoprene waders? Please respond if possible, as I really want to be safe and warm this winter on my yak!! Cheers, Fishtr8.
  11. Thanks again for the replies they are really helping me to get a better picture of this anchor malarkey! I had a closer look at my kayak today and some of the pictures of setups on the net. Please correct me if I am wrong but can I not just set up an "anchor line" from the bow to the stern of my kayak by tying it off/clipping it the carrying handles at bow and stern. I could then drop my anchor's "rope" through a caribener on this "anchor line", allow the clip to run to the back of my kayak before tying my anchor's rope off on the cleat on the side of my kayak once the anchor is at the correct depth etc. This would allow me to not drill any holes (!!). Am i being simplistic and missing a major flaw in this idea? Thanks again, fishtr8 PS: Simon, your explanation seems good to me (again largely due to no mention of drilling holes) but I am still a little confused as to retrieving the anchor's rope (quote: lodged between kayak and the line you ties before you went out - that is all an anvhor haul is, only the where the anchor line gets caught up is a carabiner that can be dragged back to your seat). Sorry!!
  12. Neil, Thanks for the super fast reply!! I am really sorry though as I don't know what you mean by a lazy line and cannot understand: 1)how you reach the rear carrying handle (as I can not get anywhere near mine when sitting in my kayak) 2)how you bouy off your reel line in this steup. So i suppose the answer is yes to some pictures please!! Sorry for my naivity! Cheers again, fishtr8.
  13. I know that there is a lot of information on here already re:anchor trolleys, and I have read the excellent article on anglersafloat.com. However I am still very reluctant to drill any holes in my beloved kayak (Tarpon 140) as I am crap (VERY) at all things DIY!! I am therefore keen to find out if anyone knows: 1)a way of locking the anchor line in place without drilling holes etc. and/or 2)a way of locking the anchor trolley line in place without drilling holes etc. and/or 3)if both of these functions are absolutely necessary to anchor safely and successfully. Either way, if anyone has any photos of their Tarpon anchor trolley systems in place available then they would very much be appreciated. (Alternatively if anyone is local to Exeter and they have this system on a Tarpon that they would be willing to show me then this would really be great!) Thanks.
  14. Hello there, Just bought my first kayak after approximately 6 months of looking and testing and opted for the Tarpon 14. Went for my first trip out last night after failing for the carp all day on my local lake and had a great session. I am really a complete novice to the sea fishing scene but I had a great evenings fishing -having a hatful of mackerel on the feathers, before switching to a single lure and bagging a 2lb bass! Is anyone out there willing to give me some hot tips on where/how I can try to bag my first big kayak bass? I will be out again tonight for sure! Cheers for now, TR8.
