  1. Carl, Pick up the revamped Todays FlyFisher, it's now called Total Flyfisher. It's got a free 6lb flouro on the cover. Maybe not the best of quality but FREE and something to 'suck and see'.
  2. I was in your position last year, and tried cheap and cheerful lines. The one i got on with and would highly reccomend is the Leeda Galion. You can pick them up really cheaply if you look around ie <£15. Saying that i've never used Worcestershire lines so couldn't compare them for you.
  3. I just re-read the box, it stating for WF line, and I believe spey lines are much bigger, so I imagine a lot less backing required, maybe 300yds of gel spun for a #9? Though I think I will do as suggested, put line on first then whatever backing will fit, then reverse.
  4. 200m sounds a lot less than they reccomend, do you think they're stating quantity with 20lb backing rather than 30lb?
  5. I've recently acquired a Vision Koma Salmon reel rated #9-11. The blurb states that it needs about 270m of backing for a #11 line. Now I want to put a #9 line on, does that mean i need about 400m+ of backing? and does this relate to gel spun or more ordinary? Just wanted to see if anyone had any practical experience and what they used. Cheers.
  6. Thanks Guys. Any reccomendations to suppliers/make of millends or is it much of a muchness
  7. First question why are salmon lines rated as e.g. 9/10, what is it? a 9 or a 10? I know what it means on rods but not for lines. After my last post and a bit more research, multi tips and spey lines in general are on the back burner. DT lines are reccomended to start with to get used to the casting. Any reccomendations on decent Salmon DT's Thanks
  8. Thanks Guys. I've got another question. Watch the board.
  9. Hi. I've just branched out into salmon fishing. I have purchased a reel and i want to get an idea from the AN gurus what to load it with. Is forking out for the multi tip spey line the way to go. The one off cost with most of the line options covered makes economical sense, but is it as good or better performance-wise to buy seperate lines and the spools to put them on? So does performance outweigh economics, or is there nothing in it? Cheers
  10. I don't fly fish for them myself but the heaviest zander from The Glos canal, 14lb+ was caught on fly.
  11. I got the fish finder and line/depth counter last time. Have the same problem with weight of the cable on the fish finder as chavender. must try the corks on the cable trick. It does work to a fashion, i use it to work out depth and contours as it works its way back to the bank, when i can't be a**ed to play around with plummets. I think it was designed more for the american market, off the side of boats, jetties and float tubes. My line counter seems to stop reading at 29m, so have to keep re-zeroing and adding them up as i go.
  12. I've got an golden oppurtunity to fish a private unfished stretch of the B Avon this w/e just above the weir at Limpley Stoke. I know that there is good fishing downstream of the village, and upstream towards Bradford-on-Avon. But there is another weir upstream of the site i can fish, meaning that i will be effectivley fishing between two weirs. So what i wanteed to ask is i) is there any decent fish between the weirs, as i can't see barbel getting up and down weirs particularly well ii) any local knowledge (baits and tactics other than the standard barbel approach) would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to your responses as always
  13. The Lureflash Viper rods get very good write ups. Yorkshire Game Angling in their catalogue do Viper fishing outfits, rod, reel, lines bag flies and other goodies. The 9.5 set is £95. No, I don't work for YGA. Just was in the similar position as you, and spent many hours pouring over the catalogues and reviews in magazines. Then i went and won a rod and reel in one of the comps in Trout Fisherman
  14. Hi everybody. I work in an operating theatre and we were discussing putting together a compilation of music that would be 'appropriate' for operations, patients, doctors and nurses etc. My musical knowledge is somewhat limited, but i'm sure i can rely on the AN experts to provide the goods. Obvious ones so far are "Knocking on heavens door" "the first cut is the deepest"
