  1. Ive just joined a fishing club that allows fishing on the YORKSHIRE leven from leven bank upto the a19 road bridge , Ive never fished this section but looking forward to roaming it , in search of trout . chub when they are in season and hopefully seatroiut if they manage to get over the wear back end . Am i likely to encounter anyother fish other than stated and any ideas what size the trout get upto in this section and best tactics looking at it there looks to be alot of overgrown areas would worm be the killer method or would i be best to take flyrod instead ....Much appreciated ..
  2. Cheers Brian , gona have a trawl i think im gona have a look at the fewick range and see whats what , they seem to be cheap enough and they are suposed to be a good rod , nowt worse tho than blind ordering but heres hoping, ....cheers , p.s. it will be a great fighting a 10lb pollock on it single handed ... , ....
  3. Im currently thinking about investing in a baitcasting outfit to fish for pike and perch in my local river and the odd gravel pit , I currently use fixed spools for all my lure fishing but really fancy giving a low profiled baitcaster out fit a try , somthing with a trigger grip to be able to use one handed . The outfit will also be used now and again from the kayak . ....ideally i would like the outfit to be able to flick spinnerbaits out and crankbaits like rapalas dt range and things like taildancers etc and spoons Ive been offered a abu revo stx left hander for a good price so im after abit of help on selecting a rod to suite , The rod will be mail order so i am abit stuck as to which to go for due to not being clued up on these casting weights and powers , seen a fenwick hmg med/heavy cating rod on e bay with a casting weight of 3/8 to 1 oz and at 6` 6".. does anyone know if this style of rod would cope and how many grammes 3/8 oz is ...A few questions but would appreciate any help and ideas....Cheers All the best...
  4. Can anybody tell me who has the fishing rights on the river rye at nunnington near kirbymooreside ? i did a job down there the other day and as always i cannot cross a bridge without taking a look at the rivers occupants . seen a couple of nice fish , one must of been around 4lb maybe bigger , and it actually looked like a trout . but not sure ......i seen a sign upriver of the bridge saying fly only , but i am not sure if this rule just applies to upstream of the sign as it was on a fence . anyone ???

    Near Disaster

Thanks for that brian , Will you do me a big favour mate and THANK your neighbour and the other lads on the life boat that put themselves in danger and plucked my mate from the water and re assured me all was ok ....If it were not for them my mate and even me might not be here today to continue on our fishy journey......Thanks R.N.L.I........
  6. Hiya brian , sory if i never responded to ure message some time ago , i think it may of been because my pc went down or somthing and the fact i havent been on here for a while ,,,,,sorry if i didnt ,,,,anyway , apparantly the frogs n newts could be saved as they are supose to be able to get cleaned up ,,,,,, its just very frustrating ,,,i mean they said they cannot afford to let anything escape into the system ,,,,,,the best part about it all is ,,,,the pit they have pumped the water into has overflowed and was flowing into the drain yesterday ,,,,,,so for me if they didnt want water to get into the tees ,,,its to late ,,,,,like i said if they were signals were did they come from with them being so close to the tees ,,,,,,could they of been whiteclawed variety ? i dont know ,,,,what i do know if they were big and very dfark in colour with white bits under there claws ,,,,,,the least they could of done was to just dig another pond and put all in habitants in it ,,,,and for me there would never of been a problem,,,,,it would still be there if it were not for this company wanting to make a car park so why all the fuss now .........its very sad
  7. I am not upto speed on crayfish etc , but thinking about it these particular crayfish i seen in the buckets did have white claws on the underside , are they signals ? im not sure , what i thought they may of done was to dig another pond and place all in habitants into it and for me there wouldnt of been a problem , but to kill healthy looking fish which apperead to of been surviving ok putting on good weights is sickening to say the least , i mean the years ive stalked them big carp in there , to see them slaughtered in such a manner is a shame indeed ...,,,,,,,,
  8. Surely this should not be allowed ,,,,,,i really cant get me head around it ...........
  9. Near were i work in thornaby there has always been a pond , which is about 5 ft deep and about 100m long by about 30m wide ,,,,,last year a company near by got planning permission to fill the pond in and re site it somewere near by so they could put a car park on the site , , now the work has started and to my horror , its been assessed by some company who said the pond has signal crayfish in , so they cannot re site the pond and its in habitants , as apparantly they have classed everything in the pond as contaminated due to it having signal crayfish in and they say they cannot risk loosing crayfish into the drains etc etc ,,,the trouble is , i have been speaking to the lads who are draining the pond and they said they have been told to just dig a pit near by which they have done and pump the water into it and catch everything and kill them ,,,,,today the pond is nearly empty and they have been going around netting the fish and hitting them over there heads and burrying them ,,,,,,, so far i seen about 15 big crayfish , and a load of rudd ,roach perch carp etc etc ,,,,,,some of the perch were over 2lb , which i feel is a shame , this pond also has carp upto 14lb in it , with some ghost koi mirrors and common carp in it which they have not got as yet , yesterday i phoned the ea to inform them , but apparantly they already know , i also phoned the rspca as i thought this action was sick what they are doing , , i mean the job isnt even a good one because the pit they have dug is now overflowing into the storm drain , so if they are that concerned about spreading crayfish thats not a good way to prevent this happening , the rspca officer arrived today and said he couldnt do much about it but would ring around to find more out ...i really feel sickened that this is allowed to happen as the locval river tees is already overflowing with crays and just about everywere else , why couldnt they just re site thepond and everything in it ,,,,,,and to me there wouldnt of been a problem at all, a few weeks ago i was walking around the pond watching thousands of fry , which included perch , rudd etc etc ,,,,,,,, I am just venting my fury as i think the ea have done a very bad thing in allowing this to happen , ther is also frogs n newts in there , what apparantly can be saved as they said these species can be cleaned and re sited ,,,,,,,,,whats going on ,,,,,,,,,,absoloutly devastated ............. ignore my english and grammer , i am just furious with it all...........cheers
  10. Esh ,,,,youve kept that quiet glen....i thought i was the pollock man
  11. I would of said its defo not a salmon due to square tail , looks more like a sea trout to me or a big brown ,, or a hybrid....wat ever it is its a bloody big gamefish and with it not being a salmon.its a trophy ,that would of been better going back.....

    lure fishing...

ARE YOU GOING ON ABOUT WYKHAM THERE ROONEY888. i really enjoy fishing there, The reason i say am i a bad boy suggesting going lure fishing at wykham to see what all the die hards say and think about me doing so as i thought it was actually abit early to be targetting pike , even though my heads telling me to go do it , many thanks , how much does it cost for an evening ticket is it a fiver , cheers
  14. Im seriously considering going lure fishing for pike n perch over at wykham lakes in yorkshire , especially with this lovely weather were having at the moment , what are you thoughts, am i way to early and a naughty boy for considering it ..cheers Dave
  15. whilst fly fishing lockwood beck on the north york moors last year i had a perch of around 2lb on a very small buzzer , funnily enough the fly i used was very similar to the one in the perches mouth on that pic , fished very deep and very slow, like the idea of the small spinner baits ( which i dont possess any of ) but im sure the trout would go mad for them too..
  16. All the companies the estate did sign a major petion , against the work but heard the other day that they had got permission , not sure if envoiomental surveys have already been done , there was a right up about it in the local gazzette last year with save our pond petition , obviously the local council were involved , but heard the otherr day wed lost and they had been granted permission..i wonder what they would do with the fish ? ...although..................................................................... .............................. our dads just built a bigger pond like
  17. There is a little pond near were i work , which has little perch ,rudd and ghost carp in upto 12lb i think , never seen them this big exept on a pic , the pond is absoloutly over grown with american pond weed , there is possibly more species in which i have not seen as yet , the thing is ive just heard that a local company has planning permission to fill it in and re settle the pond somewere else , the pond has been there for years ,and its matured lovely with a load of wildlife around it , got told years ago pple put chubb and other fish in it out of one of the local rivers , one side of the pond is very shallow with a load of bullrushes and reeds, in summer you can see the carp swimming through lanes which they have created through swimming through them , , im gutted that a company can just apply for permission to fill it in and get it , it was a council pond which i dont think exists no more , i wish there was newts in there ,then they wouldnt be able to move it would they ??? i also know there is cray fish in it , as i seen one when i attempted to remove abit of the pond weed last year , its absoloutly thick as anything could barely walk through it as it was that thick, the pond at its deepest is about 5 to 6 ft deep , i might have a go later actually to see if i can winkle a carp out on crust, which im not familiar with doing .... what a shame ....
  18. Abit of a sad pic if you ask me ....

    Best fish

Thats correct , i dont think its all about the size ,well thats what i keep telling our lass ... seriously though ide far rather catch a 6lb chub on u/l or seatrout above 5lb than any carp or the likes from a commercial fishery above 20lb ,theres wild and theres pondfish .....not dissing you carpers though ....with everything but the kitchen sink , well ok with the sink lol....
  20. I think that is because the harder you pull the fish ,the harder the fish wants to pull, except in the opposite direction , hence tiring it too much , wereas with light gear i think its constantly in your mind not to bully the fish in fear of breaking your line ,so slowly steering the fish to the net doesnt seem to bother them much , with sea trout fishing i try to steer the fish in the opposite direction to were i actually want it to be and sure enough it will go the right way , it takes abit of getting use to but it works ,well will sea trout it does

    Best fish

Alright jimmyh yeah i had a 20 from the tees ,at the free stretch in yarm ive seen them to 25lb from there and dont know if you seen the gazzette on sat ,there was two pics of a 25 and a 19 both from the tees, and looking at the background on the pics ,it looked like them were caught from the back of thornaby area , i had a 16lb on a rapala out of the leven , and that is only a small tributary of the tees as you will probably know, i think there will be even bigger pike in the tees ,wouldnt be suprised to see a 30 plus fish soon , maybe 40 ,,, cheers

    Best fish

[The biggest frshwater fish ive caught is a 20lb pike ,on ledgered smelt from the river tees , The most satisfying fish ive had are a 3.5lb perch on spinner ,a 16lb pike on diving rapala,a 4lb chub on a countdown rapala and a 5.5lb seatrout on a mepps , had alot of other good sized fish from both saltwater and fresh water ,but the above fish are the ones i,m very pleased about all caught within the past two seasons since i started to take lure fishing seriously....all in summertime....
  23. I think we had better let john wilson know what everyone thinks about summer lure fishing for pike as he says its the best time , i personally do lure fish for pike in the summer and many other species like salmon, seatrout perch chubb etcetc ,only because im a sea angler through winter , but im starting to get the jist of it ,im a bad boy for doing so according to die hard pikers ,
  24. plus a migratory liscense would be required for salmon , and wouldnt it be safer for the spawning fish if we were to fish in a lake were it is probably stocked etc etc , forgive me for not being upto scratch with all this coarse fishing closed season palavar , i my self am abit of an all rounder and possess a migratory liscense and a fly rod , so dont get me wrong , thanks
