  1. Steady On Newt! Remember we are British!! we are catching up withyou guys on the lure fishing front but i guess most people think your joking suggesting you can actually catch fish on brightley coloured little bits or rubber and plastic I like to use controller floats to trot dog biscuits down the river for Chub once the rivers open onJune 16th. guess i'll be trying some small jigs as well now, and maybe flys too. Thanks for that tip Newt. Buyingfrom USA i think works our roughly $1=£1 time you pay shippng, import tax ( 1.5% ?)VAT 17.5% on the total goods and shipping cost that is! I think if the total cost of goods and shipping is under around £18 you don't pay the above taxs, check with customs on the phone for correct limit. Also if you have a friend or relatation over there they can send it as a 'Gift' and the limit for tax is doubled to £36 +/-?
  2. I forgot, two new lures just out which i got from Gordon Griffiths at the Chatsworth show are the new Ace 'Mini Flipper' at 80mm/15g and the new Ace 'Ultralight' flipper at 60mm/9g. I saw them at the LAS Reading day but forgot to buy them ,since Chatsworth i have caught on them on every outing, 10 to the Mini Flipper and 3 to the Ultralight Flipper, all Pike so far . I'm sure these will do well for Chub and Perch etc once the rivers are open again. Can be used on a normal spinning type rod . [ 23. May 2003, 01:32 PM: Message edited by: Richard Harvey ]
  3. Hi Martin, as they are greedy fish with big mouths try plugs like the Big-S , Manns 1 Minus fished just subsurface, surface lures like Crazy crawlers, Ace Tiptops and if it gets real weedy a MossBoss lure. Can't wait for the rivers to open !
  4. Congratulations, I expect we will see you posting on here in the early hours soon ,lol
  5. i.e. same principle as a side-planer or otter board So DG, are you saying that when using a side-planer or otter board you keep stopping the retieve and letting those devises glide backwards away from you?I thought they were for steering bait/lures out to one side like a rudder away from you whilst under forwards movement from boat or foot trolling [ 13. 6. Hi Nugg, they don't swim away from you on the retrieve ,you pause and give slack line like deadbait sink and draw style and the flat profile jighead slides backwards away from you each time you stop and do this. I was given two to try and they haven't worked for me yet. Your best bet is to get some soft rubber shads or curly tail grubs in 4-6" and mount them on a single hook jighead of around 7-14g and give them a try for starters.
  7. Yes, a Great Day ,i really enjoyed it. Well done to Tim Kelly and the LAS team for making it all happen. Dr Mike Ladle's talk on Sea Bass fishing was very interesting and the other speakers were good too!
  8. Thanks for the e-mail Elton, i have started a thread with a link re this subject on The Harris Angling forums now too.
  9. Hi Newt , i think the same tv program is showing in the states on Friday? So may be you can comment on what you think after you have seen it if you get the chance to view it. I too at first when watching that program thought he wasn't too bad then as it went on i thought he was quite scarey, his money gives him great power to shape his life the way he wants. I felt sorry for the 3 children, i won't say his children as i'm still trying to get my head around that one . I can see the headlines in about 10-15 years time= " Ex-Pop Star found murdered by three white people wearing Masks!" Any other Members state side let us know what you think if you see that program.
  10. Now that's what I call a 'STIFF Drink'!

  12. Hi Peter, to add to your list of Harris 'Huntsman' netted big fish how about a surprise 39lb 7oz Wels Catfish which netted after a few trys,it had taken a Pig Style jerkbait so mouthing in out wasn't a good opition, this was caught by a friend a year or two back whilst Pike Luring. I have used a Huntsman net for 5+ years and it's still fine, i woundn't use it for lifting much of a pike out of the water by the handle but i don't think most people do that anyway, gathering the net or lifting the frame by hand is a much safer option if the fish can't be unhooked in the net /water. Gordon Griffiths also does a range of similar nets , look at page 12 on the lure catalogue, http://www.gordon-griffiths.co.uk/ I haven't seen you on the Harris forum for a long time, i wondered why you didn't visit, i go there most days now, i can't remember your 30 pike message so it must of been a while back, come and have another look ,it's changed a bit over the last six months or so. Regards ,Richard.
  13. Happy New Year to All, and Tight Lines Too !
  14. There used to be a Jag around Norwich owned by a Fruit Trader Reg : MR P1P And another guy from around there had bought a motorbike for next to nothing with reg: HEN 50N and allegedly turned down a very large sum from Jim Henson ( Muppit Show )and was hoping for higher offers, that was early 1980's and i never knew if he got that better offer before Jim Passed on.

  17. HI colin, I like a bit of Level42 too. I caught bits of Mark King talking BBCradio2 the other week and found it interesting. Also my brother in law works at the factory in colchester that makes his Bass guitars so i always take an interest when Mark King is mentioned. If your into Bass guitars check these out for some English madekit www.status-graphite.com WAs there any more tour dates you know of Colin? Thanks, Richard.
  18. 160mph , is that the Cooper S ? if so then what does the 'S' stand for? I would have to change my pants if i was in one at that speed so perhaps thats what the 'S' is for I look at the old Minis and i now notice how dated they look and i think the new Mini is easy on the eye. I look at the old Beetles and think 'theres a Beetle' and then i see a new beetle and they still don't look right to me , and Jim no they don't sound right ! They should sound like a slow rattley whistley machinegun My daughter has told me she wants a New Mini for here birthday, i said ok, i didn't tell her which birthday I think i'll get myself one first someday, as long as the rods fit inside [ 02. 19. If i have read this correctly then the draining board is the nearest or only available 'worktop' area near the cooker ? If so then i just use a spare dinner plate to rest 'cooking tools' on whilst cooking ( about twice a year ) .This then just gets washed along with the other stuff sooner or later. Newt, in UK the draining board is usualy an integeral moulded part of the kitchen sink, an area that slopes down so water from washed items runs back into the sink . I think you are thinking of what we call a draining rack/frame , to stand plates and cups etc on to drain, this stands on the draining board, if that makes sence, i haven't been awake long P.S. tell Sonja she could be recycling food germs back to the washed dishes if she doesn't use something. My wife is laughing at me for giving cooking advice when i hardly do any [ 30. October 2002, 06:00 PM: Message edited by: Richard Harvey ]
  20. Q: What did the fish say when he ran into a concrete wall? A: DAM!
  21. The new shaped and revamped Beetle has been out for a while now and the revamped Mini not so long. Both of them i thought were mistakes and i didn't like the look of them at first. But know i have got used to seeing them on the roads I'm getting to like the shapes , one more than the other. So which do you think has ' Evolved ' the best in your opinion  , if you dislike both then thats ok. I let you know the one that is my favorite once a few votes come in. Only two vote options, Beetle or Mini.
  22. Thanks Roy, It sounds just like the 'Music' my kids play in their bedrooms
  23. Thanks for the replys so far Guys ! This what i wanted to get , lots of different thoughts, I'm just trying to sort through them now and work out whats the best solution. firstly it's the whole house that is the problem, upstairs at the moment and as it gets colder outside then the downstairs windows too. I have double glazed sealed units in wooden frames but like i said they don't have the trickle vent slots like the newer double glazing. The bathroom window gets opened for a while after showers or baths, the kitchen window gets opened when cooking. Newt , i know if i used a De-Humidifier on full bore then i would probably wake up dried like a prune but some of the models i have seen have a dial that you can set the humidity level by % . Also as you say hot air holds less water than colder air then i guess as the air in my house is heated then it has to give up some of it's water and it does it on the colder window glass and frames, my thinking is that if a dehumidifier removes a percentage of the water first then there will be less to condence on the windows so it will ease it to some extent  Some of you have said about moving air around,do you mean circulate or ventilate to the outside air ? I have thermostatically controlled central heating with thermostat valves on the upstairs rads. The heating is not on between 11pm and 6am as there temp is comfortable enough without in on. I guess 5 adult sized persons ( i still haven't matured ) and a dog must put out a lot of moist air. I thought i would get just a few replys about peoples experiences with dehumidifiers but i'm finding the other help interesting too. Thanks ,Richard.
  24. Thanks for those replys , i should of added that it's also the puddles (lakes ! ) of condensation on the inside window boards each morning that i wanted to help ease. I don't think those measures will help much but i may try it on one window first. Thanks again
