  1. Hi Andy, It sounds a good idea . A single hook point has got to be easier to unhook than 2x trebles may be. only thing i can think of is you may miss a lot more Pike if the Pike has just seized the bait across it's mouth and is sitting there with it. Timeing 'Bait takes' for Pike will always raise a debate, i look at it this way: If the bait has moved then a Pike probably has it in it's mouth ,so all the time i give them is to tighten the line and strike! I only bait fish a few times a year and so far not deep hooked Pike. I could see your idea may suit the sleepy head people who take tents and beds etc ,but then we get into the 'Sleeping with lines out thing' where fish could possibly snag before you get to the rods . But i'm getting off the point a bit, so i think it sounds a good idea in general.
  2. I loved the decoy female squid he made up out of a empty pop bottle ,some glitter and a few rubber muppets stuck on one end of it, and i worked
  3. Hi , i remember the date Sat, 12th of October being mentioned somewhere, but a bit nearer it will be advertised in A.T. etc with a entry form which i think you have apply with, stating where and when you qualified etc along with your cheque. Then your paper work is sent to you a week or so before the event. Hope this helps but keep an eye on the angling press a bit later on. Good Luck.
  4. Hi Guys, as Alan has said they do use big landing nets but the arms of the fox net you use are probably 40-42 inches where as the ones they use for catfish have arms of 60-72+ inches . And you don't lift the Catfish out of the water with it it's just to contain it so you ( and 2-3 mates ) can get under it and carry it a shore to a unhooking matt like a kingsize bed Then they get back into the water to support the fish until it recovers enough to swin away. I guess some of the big ones in Spain etc are unhooked in the water but you still got to get to grips with the slippery snaking things. Any C.C.G. members on here?
  5. Hi , About a year back i checked first by phoning the Customs Dept. At that time packages under £16 were exempt of Import taxand VAT, And if sent here as a gift it was £32 limit. So if you buy in smaller lots this could save you money . But check it all out first , a few short phone calls could save you loads. I whle back some parcels came by surface and Parcel Force delivered them and you had to pay the duty to get the goods.(6-8 weeks to get here  ) Next lot came by air in under 1 week and no duty !! great i thought , then a week or so later the Tax bill Arrived lol. You canmake good savings ,but the main thing i love is there's so much more to choose from in the states
  6. I'm sure there are some 'Free' areas dotted around  as some places on the rivers in North bucks can be fished with only a National Rod License, these are usually in public areas like parks and meadows etc, but yes check first
  7. Hi to All, Ken , at the L.A.S. day in Derby in June i bought a New Lure from a guy called 'Mad Mick'. This lure that he produces is a bit like a 'sossy' lure ( spelling ?)being made of rubber type stuff with gaps/cuts in the body every inch which makes the body snake on the retrieve. Well he has made it so it has weight on one side so it swims on it's side and the hooks are mounted on that same side so if you stop the lure should slowly land on it's side resting on the hooks, then as you wind it should start snaking in the vertical plane. I say ' should' as i haven't tryed it yet , a case of too many lures and not enough time. I think Mad Mick calls it a 'Sink and Draw Roach' Tim Kelly was there so if you read this Tim could you tell us if you have seen this lure or used it. I'm going to try and find that lure and try it next week if i get a chance. I have a friend who loves making and trying new ideas for fishing stuff and he has tryed a few designs and says that to make it wobble verticaly isn't that easy. I have noticed that on some lures if they get the line/trace hooked/snagged on the front treble then they some times come back in with a nice 'on the side' wobble which may give some insite to whats needed to make a vertical wobble. Also maybe some has tryed it before and found that fish don't like a vertical wobble Good thread Ken , it will make me take more notice next time i cast a lure . Tight Lines, Richard. 8. Hi Colin, I can't stand drivers who approach a roundabout that has two or more lanes onto it placed in the left hand lane and then calm as you like drive around to the right exit cutting everyone else up! And they seem unaware of the havock they can cause . Also i can't stand a certain type of driver , these are the ones that always drive at 48mph when it's safe to do 60+ MPH , They also speed up and slow down for no apparent reason causing the queue of delayed traffic that follows them to bunch up even more ! These drivers often seem to be in their senior years , driving a Rover car and wearing a hat! Beware of these guys I also can't stand the people who over take you only to fill your safe driving distance to the next car in front , so you have to ease of the gas a bit then you get another one over take you and so on ,GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR  Thank you Colin for raising this thread , i feel a lot better now for getting that off my chest . I better leave it there for now ,lol. Regards Richard.
  9. In recent years when trying to enjoy a spot of quiet fishing at a couple of locations that have humpback bridges over the river or canal i have become annoyed at the what seems to be increasing number of people sounding there horns just before they pass over the bridge. My son has had me testing him on his Highway Code for his driving test and this sounding of horns at humpback bridges is in there as one of the things you should do at a humpback bridge. Most of the people sound the horn at the very last moment which would not give any oncoming vehicle much chance to stop etc even if they could be heard. Perhaps i'm getting too old and grumpy like Victor Meldrew but has anyone else noticed this 'Bridge Honking' if you lived near one of those bridges it would really be annoying . Elton, have you tryed talking to the Bus drivers boss/manager etc? If that doesn't work how about contacting 'Company House' i think it's called? Where you can find out names and addresses of company bosses and when on the way home from work at 4am you could stop at his house and blow your horn and when he pops his head out of the window just ask him to remind his bus driver not to sound his horn outside your house as you find it annoying, lol. I bet that would get a result ( of some kind )Richard.
  10. Thanks for the help Gray .

Tight Lines ,Richard.

  17. In the U.K. On Television they are running an advertisment for a well known fizzy soft drink that begins with 'C', and it is based on the Football World Cup English team thyme i think. It has cartoon like caracters that look like potatoheads and a 3 legged player scores a goal at the end of the ad. Every time it comes on T.V. my wife asks me to find out what the music in the background is. It has a latin beat with drums and whistles , is this a known tune or one just made for the Ad.? Help please if anyone knows the name of the tune or any ideas how to track it down so i can have some peace over the next few weeks while they runn this Ad. Thanks Richard. 23. A Note To Anyone Fishing Golf Course Waters: Should anyone be lucky enough to land any of the 'Golfball' species along with your fish when you net them please practice ' Catch and Release!' as not only will this help maintain a healty stock for the Course owner but also save you from any possible legal action for removal of this species without the proper licence or permit.
