    rod

I'm thinking of getting a Daiwa Wilderness travel beach (4pc). Just wondering if anybody here knows anything at all about them? Do they weigh much compared to a normal beaccaster? Any bit of information about them would be very helpful, thanks fot your time.

    daiwa 7HT

Thanks for that, it puts my mind at ease knowing it can handle mixed ground.

    daiwa 7HT

Pretty sure I'm getting this reel as my first propper multi but I'm hoping ye can answer a question or two for me please. I understand that the 7HT is most at home when used as a clean beach reel. Is it suitable to use it on a relatively clean beach with a few snags and over fairly mixed ground? My normal venue would be a shingle beach with a few patches of rougher ground, is the 7HT ok for here or is it exclusively for pure sand? Any info would be very welcome, thanks for reading.
  4. Okay so if nobody knows anything about this rod, someone might hopefully be able to recomend a travel beach rod. I'm looking for something that will handle 3-5oz. Preferabley one with severel sectios for a handy travel size. Anyone any ideas at all? quaks
  5. I am thinking of buying a shimano beastmaster surf. Just wondering if anyone here has tried one or knows anything about them? Any good? Thanks for any info, col
  6. Thanks again for all the info lads.
  7. Thanks for your replies and info. What type of fishing do you think this rod is best suited to? I'll hang on to it anyway and kepp it on good nick. Will it be just as good/better for general beachwork (cleanish ground) with 4/5oz than rods today priced at around £85? Cheers again, col P.S. how much around do you reckon this rod would be woth? Still has stickers and bag. Think I saw one recently on ebay for £25?
  8. Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I have this rod, an abu 464 rated 3-8oz, 11.5 feet I think. It's about 20 years old (got it from an uncle) and it's still in pretty much perfect condition. It was top of the range and would have cost a fair bit of money in its day I think. Anyway, it's the rod I use for a lot of my beach work but I am just wondering how it compares to rods of today. I have not much knowledge on this subject at all. It was my birthday recently (17) so was thinking of buying a new rod. Would it be worth it? I'd like to spend around £60 - 100, for that money could I get much better than the abu? My main priority would be being able to get a decent cast easily enough, can only get about 60/70yds with abu, (but thats me others could probably do better) and also reasonable bite detection. Any help or info at all would be great, col
  9. Okay, decided to go for two seperate spools of the stuff. Now for the beach work with fixed spool, would 50lb or 30lb be best? Thanks for all the help.
  10. Newt, I also bought a small baitcaster but it was only £10 off ebay and just got it incase of an emergency, I had tought of buying a quality one but my rod would be more suited to a fixed spool. thanks. This is my first light outfit, neither the rod or reels are stocked in any local tackle shops here so for me it's hard to judge whats best when I have no past experience to go by and am unable to hold the the rod and reel. Acording to shimano the perfect reel to balance the rod is the 750 size sedona but of course they would suggest their own reel. All input is taken on board. quaks
  11. Sorry, I was unclear above. I want to buy one spool of power pro as can't really afford two, and use the same line for both light spinning with one setup (small reel + rod) and also light beach work with a completely differnt setup consisting of a light beachcaster and large fixed spool reel. I will load the large reel with about 150yds of braid (plus loads of backing) as I have a max cast of 100yds and also fill the spool of the small reel with braid. The 20lb braid will be fine for the small/light reel but anything heavier won't do. So now I was wondering if 20lb braid is too thin to put on a large fixed spool for light beachwork, normally with a 3oz weight? I hope Iv'e explained that properly now, sorry about the confusion, I wouldn't dream of putting 4oz of weight on the little reel. Thanks for the advice and any more info or toughts would be great, quaks
  12. Hi, I really want to try braid but am a bit stuck on breaking strain. I will be buying a spool of 300yrd power pro to be used on a fixed spool reel. I want to use it for sea fishing with a max weight of 4oz lead, no casts to the horizon, just scratching around. It will also be used for ultralight spinning, and the reel for this only takes 80yd of 20lb power pro so 30lb is too heavy for it, as only 50 yds or so would go on the reel. Now, will the 20lb be too thin for light beach work, I will of course be using a propper shockleader. I wouldn't really be able to afford 2 spools of the stuff so am a bit stuck. Please say 20lb will be ok but if it deffinitely won't do I suppose I'll have to take the bad news. Any views and comments welcome, quaks
  13. This will be my first light setup, and still being in school means I have a small budget but I have saved for this. The reel will be coupled with a Shimano mini tele spin http://www.harrisangling.co.uk/product.asp...=14346&deptid=1 I had widdled it down to these two, and couldn't afford anything more expensive. I couldn't find much difference between the reels and when I asked the place I was thinking of buying the shimano from he suggested the okuma one as a great reel. I don't have much knowledge on the subject so thanks for all the input. All comments are very welcome and appreciated. All the best, quaks
  14. Thanks again all. There is some great info there for both reels. I think I am now leaning towards the okuma but still any more comments/oppinions would be great. I emailed okuma and the correct line capacity for the reel is 100yds 6lb line, but due to there site crashing they are unable to change it. I was just hoping to use the reels in the sea occasionally, for some light spinning for mackerel and coalfish which will require a cast of no more than 30yds, so presumed they would be grand for this? Both, acording to the manufacturers are suitable for salt water, but anyway it will mainly be used for fresh water. The weight of the okuma might be a bit much. Thanks again to everyone who replied, quaks
  15. Thanks for the replies guys. Can't get either reel here in Ireland and States seems best but what price would you pay for the shimano there?
